Rustic 4 Bedroom log home in the woods of Camp Grayling. This cabin sits about 5 miles east of Grayling off Jones Lake Road. It is only a few yards from the tank trails of Camp Grayling so there is great access for ORV's and snowmobiles. The East branch of the Ausable River is only a couple miles away and the main branch is not much further. Lots of fishing in some of the worlds most pristine trout waters as well as canoeing and kayaking. This is a perfect get away for the outdoorsman.
It is also a great place for soldiers who are coming to Camp Grayling for training. The cabin is only 15 minutes from the main entrance of Camp Grayling and is literally a 2 minute drive to the CACTF/Range 30 Complex. If you're allowed to stay off post, this is a nice get away from the long days of training.
*** UPDATE *** Based on the reviews from some of our past renters, we have replaced ALL of the mattresses at the cabin. Hopefully this will make your stay more restful and enjoyable.

This was a great stay! Spacious and rustic, felt very homey. I had thought there was only one upstairs bedroom, there were actually 2 which was a nice surprise. There are plenty of supplies to cook with too. There's a balcony that you can sit outside and enjoy the trees and forest. Overall, great stay!
Hubby and I came back home for my high school reunion and were looking for a place in the woods where we could enjoy nature and some peace and quiet. This was perfect! Rustic is a key word, and while the cabin could have been cleaner, it had all we needed. We look forward to staying again! Thank you for our stay!
What a great weekend spent in the woods!!! House was beautiful and it was perfect but if you’re someone who is looking to ride fourwheelers or sleds not too many trails close by. Other then that Jim was great with helping us find the place and check in! Thanks again!
This cabin is very quaint, rustic and charming! There are two bedrooms on the main floor and two bedrooms on the upper level. Six beds total and three roomy couches in the living room for additional guests. Fully stocked kitchen, Table in Dining Area with Seating for Eight, Large bathroom, Large Deck Overlooking Mature Forests with Wildlife, Nice Fire Pit to Gather Around and no shortness of activities (game table, stereo, Roku TV, DVD's, Board Games, Card Games, Books, and Coloring Books and Crayons for the Kiddos).
Other Comments:
It would have been nice if one or both of the downstaris beds were bigger
It doesn't appear that a great deal of effort was put into the cleaning prior to arrival
Wonderful Cabin, will stay again!
If you're looking for a secluded, pet friendly place, this is your spot! Had everything we needed and then some. So quiet when we sat out on the back deck and then at the camp fire....just awesome! We had an issue with a wasps nest under the deck and messaged the owner. His friend Gary came out right away to take care of it. Beds were comfortable, we slept like babies! Dogs enjoyed the deck as well as the many trees available...lol. There are A LOT of moths there but nothing that was terrible. We've already booked another vacation here for September. You're close to town but yet out far enough to where its private. James is a great host!
We stayed at the cabin for 9 days while our daughter was attending Interlochen. It was plenty roomy and we very much so enjoyed the pool table. We loved how it was out in the country but yet close enough to go into town for kayaking, hiking, and local restaurants. We often traveled to Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes along with Mackinac Island. The only downside that I would say is that the beds are very uncomfortable and there are critters in the cabin. We never actually saw them but we heard them and found a hole that they were using to get in the kitchen on top of the cabinets. Also, the bugs outside are absolutely terrible and it's very hard to sit outside on the deck etc without bug spray. Apparently there is also a gypsy moth problem where you can hear them and they are killing all of the trees. If you are expecting a rustic experience then this is 100% the place for you!! The host is really great and communicative as well!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Fleas in bedrooms.
The Good:
Pool table, bedroom count (if you can use them). Deer sightings frequently and location. Beds were new and clean, though they are super bouncy. Price with some Expedia discounts applied made the sting of the issues more bearable.
The bad (not owners fault):
Plenty of ticks outdoors (it’s the woods). Use spray and check after coming in and you’ll be fine.
The bad:
Only a window AC unit. If the fleas don’t keep you out of the two rooms upstairs the atrocious heat will. If I knew this was not a central AC cabin, I for certain would not have rented. In fact, I selected it because I read other reviews of other properties that did not have AC and people were having a horrible experience due to heat. Well I saw this cabin had AC and thought great! A little widow can not keep up with the heat load!
The grill on the patio is useless. Filthy. Don’t bother opening it.
Sand in the washing machine. The well water is full of sand and needs a screen.
The ugly:
Fleas in the two bedrooms upstairs. Son got bit up. We could use only two of the four bedrooms.
Saw at least one mouse in the bathroom.
Couches are disgusting. One in particular has a very strong urine smell. Sat on the vinyl chairs and white chairs the entire time.
Dog fur all over the place.
Final Comment:
I’m done with VRBO. Done! I get charged cleaning fees and the places always look like garbage. Would not stay here again and do not recommend it to anyone.
I’ve stayed at this cabin and knew I was going to enjoy my stay. Perfect place for a hunt camp! Great quiet and private location. Had one little snafu with some appliances but communication with the owner was fantastic and it didn’t interrupt our trip.
Great place to stay. Check in was easy. Great place to just relax or if you out and about all day, nice spot to come back to and just unwind. Easy to find and not far from Grayling or any stores you may need to go to. I highly recommend and the owner was available whenever we needed anything. Thank you for the great stay Jim.
Perfect location for canoeing the Au Sable, property was exactly as described. Plenty of room for 8 adults. Owner was great and answers any questions quickly- was able to let us book an extra night at the last minute! Would definitely book this property again- Thanks again Jim!
We stayed for the 4th of July weekend as we had family at Higgins Lake. An easy on and off of the highway and the place was clean and comfortable. Looking forward to when we can stay again.
Rustic but cozy. Has everything you need to unwind and relax. Far enough away from town but close enough to run in and get what you need. Easy freeway access. Roomy and functional. Owners were great.
