My husband and I along with our two adult children and their spouses had a great time at Lake St. Catherine. The house was very comfortable and clean. We brought our kayaks and were able to launch them from the dock area. There were grocery stores and shopping opportunities in nearby towns. Unfortunately, my husband had recent surgery and access to the lake was difficult for him.
The house was very nice and gave an awesome view of the lake. The setting was so peaceful! The owners, Marie and Peter were very friendly and very accommodating! We would definitely stay there again!

September is always such a Special month at the lake, some nights get a little chilly, great for camp fires...During the day we can have summer like temperatures. And if it’s a early fall the fall foliage is beautiful.
We are glad that your family was able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake .
Beautiful home with amazing views of the lake. Inside was clean and comfy - I could see staying here in the summer and swimming, kayaking, etc. But staying here when the weather is cold is also wonderful! We had a great time, relaxing and staying cozy inside the house. Definitely will be returning!

We are glad that you enjoyed fall at the lake... come back and try the summer , I’m sure you will enjoy it as well!
Our family had a wonderful time. We were provided plenty of info in advance and communication was very helpful. We also appreciated how clean everything was when we arrived. The lake is serene, the house was great for kids and the surrounding area provided lots of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Highly recommend.

Great vacation
Had a great time at Camp Rockytop! The house was immaculate and homeowners were very friendly! We really wanted a house right on the water but it actually worked out better for us to stay here. The yard was great for the kids to run around!

We are glad your family enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately it was during a documented heat wave. It was definitely a great week to be able to jump into the lake!!
We absolutely loved our stay at Rockytop! Lake Saint Catherine is one of the most beautiful lakes ever! We have been renting through VRBO for the past 15 years and this is by far our favorite property. Marie and Peter were so incredibly helpful and kind! We highly recommend this property. A+++++!

The camp was clean and advertising correct, lots of stairs
We had a small dock, boat broken down had friends helped they had to dock us and themselves owner was not happy with that situation. Or with being picked up at our dock by other boats.
Camp very hot bring fans
Over all nice place quiet location.

The dock is 24’ with an 8 x 8 sitting area. Multiple boats full of people coming and going, docking in the swim area and tied together. The house has ceiling fans in every room in addition to portable fans. Unfortunately your stay was during a documented heat wave. After your stay we received multiple noise complaints. We don’t believe our property is a good fit for your vacation needs.
We came here to see the foliage and also to get away from everything. The house is in a nice remote location, very private with no one in the back. The house was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. You get a nice view of the lake from the front of the house and front deck . Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed our time.

Fall is a wonderful time at the lake. The fall foliage lasted almost 3 weeks this year! It was nice to chat with your family before you headed home. Glad to hear that your son enjoyed the apple orchard.... and that fish will be waiting for you when you come back and i am sure you will win next time!
My husband, 3 year old daughter and I had such a wonderful time spending 2 weeks at Camp Rockytop. The house was super clean and Marie and Peter were very responsive and helpful in answering any questions we had. The lake is spectacular-we had a blast canoeing across to the playground at the state park, and the loon calls at night were magical. What a special spot. Thank you so much!

We are so happy to hear that your family enjoyed your 2 weeks at the lake. I know that you had to work from the camp via internet, but I’m glad that you had enough time to get out and enjoy yourself. I know that your daughter enjoyed the playground at the state park, it seems that everyone with young children spent some time enjoying that playground!
My sons and I were looking for a local getaway since we couldn’t travel too far because of COVID-19. I found this wonderful and private lakeside property through a friend which was listed on Vrbo. The owner was very helpful, responsive, and friendly too. The house was very clean, nicely furnished, and had all the amenities we were looking for. We had a great week and hope to return!

Everything was as described and we had a great time. We had everything we needed because of the communication before hand. The one upgrade that could be done would be a window unit ac. During the day it would get warm in there but That is 90 percent of the camps there. All in all it was a great place.
We had a great time at the lake. The house was cozy and well appointed. It is a short walk down to the lake and the water is clean and warm for swimming off the dock. We enjoyed using the floats provided but did find the kayak was difficult to get into the water. The owners were responsive and friendly. We enjoyed grilling our meals and fires in the backyard fire pit at night. The house could be improved with a washer, drier and some window AC units as the house can get very hot on the hottest summer days (there are plenty of fans though.) The area is a bit remote but there is a convenience store that serves food and ice cream on the lake. Overall, a great stay.

This summer at the lake we did have a few unusually hot weeks, including the weekend of our daughter’s wedding in the beginning of June ... 90 plus degrees! We have always found that the ceiling fans in every room have been sufficient. There are laundromats in both Poultney VT and Granville NY, as most camps on the lake do not have laundry in them. We are glad that you family enjoyed the lake and our camp!
We just spent a most relaxing and battery-recharging week at Camp Rockytop on Lake Saint Catherine! What was a typical day like: coffee on the deck with a calming view of the morning sun on the lake, then a swim, followed by a bike ride, followed by another swim, followed by a kayak ride, followed by another swim... you get the idea :-). The house is very comfortable and so wonderfully private and quiet. The owners (Marie and Peter) were so friendly and helpful -- they made sure we were comfortable and gave us some good tips (like a great hike on the other side of the lake). This is a great spot if you want to unwind, breathe in the country air, and enjoy lots of lake-related fun!

Relaxing and fun
Had a lovely time at Rocky Top Camp with a week of glorious weather! The house was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed being at the very end of the road for privacy! There were several decks to choose from and a large kitchen with plenty of cabinet space! Was disappointed that the house wasn't right on the lake - (there is a row of houses between the house and the lake) across the road. I assumed differently when looking at pictures of the property and dock on the site - but the description does say 'across the road' so my error. Also, the private dock that comes with the cabin is nice but very close to the next door neighbors dock. We are avid kayakers and brought our own and places to keep them for easy access to the water was a little hard with the space. Marie and her husband were lovely and very responsive - answered all of our questions -and keep the place up nicely! Hard to not have a good time there!

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Camp Rockytop!
Camp Rockytop and the camp next door were originally owned by 2 family members, when they build the docks they build them near each other, those are the same docks and decks that are at the lakeside today. The kayak and canoe that we provide can be easily store in the upper lawn area if you decide to bring your own for easy access to the water.

Marie's cabin is exactly like pictured, with all the amenities for a secluded getaway surrounded by beautiful nature.
My partner and I stayed a week here during the peak of fall foliage. It was so peaceful and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. We warmed up by the firepit, gazed at the Milkyway, made use of the canoe that's provided, and enjoyed many peaceful morning coffees at the lakeside dock. The cabin is situated at the end of a dirt road so there is zero traffic or noise. The lake definitely elevates the cabin to the next level, it was so beautiful especially with the fall colors; you can see it from the front deck, can walk to the water via a stretch of stairs and a dirt path. There is a small state park at the other side of the lake that was perfect for a walk or bike ride.
The cabin itself was very cozy, with cabin-esque decorations throughout, and all the amenities for cooking and relaxing. There is no cell phone signal nearby (Sprint or AT&T), but the cabin has good wifi to support remote working, video calls, etc. We'd love to come back in the future and soak up the beautiful VT scenery.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our camp. Fall is always a wonderful time to visit, the beautiful fall colors ,and the lake is still warm enough to enjoy the canoe and kayak. This October it was so warm that some of our quests even went into the lake for a swim! We look forward to seeing you on your next trip to the lake!
The house was lovely and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. The owner went out of her way to communicate and answer my questions. The lake was wonderful and the views were breathtaking.
We had privacy and quiet. The house was at the very end of a private road. It was immaculately clean. The kitchen was well stocked. Everything was very comfortable. It would have been nice to have laundry facilities but the listing was very clear that it did not have them.
My only complaint would be that I didn’t think it was clear that the lake was not immediately behind the house. I thought the dock and lake were in the back of the house. The listing indicates it is lakeside. There is a very steep staircase down to the road and a little steep climb down even from there to the dock. It was a deterrent to how often we used the lake. If you had any mobility issues it would not be doable. However once we were there the lake was lovely and we enjoyed the use of the rafts, canoe and kayak. Swimming in the lake was very nice.

We are glad that you and your family had a relaxing vacation at Camp Rockytop. As indicated in our property description it states, “ walk down the steps to the lakeside deck and dock located across the dirt lane”. It’s always nice to hear that people can explore more of the lake by using the kayak and canoe.

Just What We Needed
Camp Rockytop sits high above Lake Saint Catherine with wonderful views and easy access to it't lakefront deck/dock. The "camp" itself was absolutely perfect for the family group that we had on this particular vacation. We enjoyed having three bedrooms with two full baths. We were extremely pleased with the layout of the camp, and its amenities. Absolutely no complaints. We could have used some measuring cups but this was a very minor problem that was brought up to the owner with a few laughs about our oily brownies. I should mention that this was my 55th year at Lake Saint Catherine. Our family camp is no longer available, so I decided to rent to assure that our daughter can continue the long family experience there. I can say without reservation, that the deck and dock at Camp Rockytop has the best view on the entire lake. It is a view seen frequently on old postcards (when there was such a thing). I am giving this four stars instead of five for only one reason - the stair climb to get to the waterfront. We did not mind one bit, but perhaps older people would need to take their car down to it. There is a place to leave the car at the foot of the stairs for those who need to do this. We used it as a great opportunity for cardio. The hosts reside in their camp nearby and they were extremely friendly. Loved, loved, loved it!!

A Peaceful, Lakeside Retreat!!!!
This house at Lake St Catherine was the perfect family vacation. My husband, my 3 teenage sons and myself spent a memorable week at the home of Peter and Marie. I can't say enough about their home on the lake. The house was spotless when we arrived. The kitchen was well stocked with everything that you needed to cook for the week for your family. The three bedrooms were well appointed, closets in every bedroom and plenty of storage for the week. There were bedspreads on each bed with pillows, though we brought our own. There were two full baths. The open floor plan of the living/eating area was perfect for our family to spend time playing games and gathering together. There is a T.V and DVD player, though we did not plug in either for our stay. We actually enjoyed spending the time "unplugging"...for the most part! Cell signals were very spotty, and there was no WiFi during our stay...though Marie and Peter were getting it installed the day of our departure. Board games, puzzles and cards were provided, which occupied our time on the "rainy days." The neighborhood is so quiet. At night, you can't hear a sound. I even heard loons calling out on the lake a couple of nights! Then there is the lake....BEAUTIFUL! It was so clear. You could see right down the bottom. We went in every day, except the day we arrived. There was a kayak and canoe were provided, but bring your own life jackets. We picked up 3 at Walmart for $10 each. The boats were easy to take in and out of the lake. We really enjoyed floating in the lake on rafts that we brought, though there were also plenty of rafts that were for use on the dock. Be sure to look out for the eagle when you are at the lake. It truly is a "take your breath away" moment when you see him fly across the lake. The grocery store was about 1/2 hour drive from the house and the Walmart about 40 minutes. We did not bring our food, and went out a couple times while we were there. The town of Manchester was a fun rainy day trip to walk around and look at the shops. Camp Rockytop was truly a peaceful, lakeside retreat that my family truly enjoyed. We will have lasting memories from our week in Vermont. Many thanks go out to Marie and Peter for sharing their home with others!! The Mendes Family

We are glad that your family enjoyed your stay at Camp Rockytop on Lake St Catherine!! We did get the internet installed, as so many people have asked for it. Though It was nice to hear that your family enjoyed being unplugged! The eagle continues to sit in that pine tree next to the dock every morning and in the evening also. It was great meeting your family!

About the host
Your host
Growing up in New York City as a child my family began renting a cottage on Lake St Catherine over fifty years ago. As I got older my dream was to own my own place at the lake. For seventeen years my wife and I along with our two children have enjoyed four seasons of fun at our own year round vacation property. Several years ago we purchased and moved into an adjoining property at the lake and have since decided to rent our home for others to enjoy.
