About this property

Spacious, comfortable and peaceful cottage nestling in a Welsh National Park

Originally a 'quarryman's cottage', extended and modernised, our 'home from home' is in the beautiful rural landscape of the Preseli Hills (a National Park) and close to UK's only Coastal National Park, '240 square miles of breath-taking coast and country-side, with a patch work of beautiful sandy beaches and rugged cliffs and islands'. It has consistently gained 4-star Welsh Tourist board rating. A large safe enclosed garden to the rear, which is an ideal and safe play area for children as well as providing great privacy. There is a reasonable sized open front garden with superb views of the local country-side: the Preseli Hills, and disused 18th century slate quarry and local farmland. In the new garden shed there are table and chairs for outside meals, and additionally comfortable seating in the patio outside the conservatory. There is off-road parking for at least two cars in the drive way.

In the 'Land of Saints and Stones', this two-storey property is very spacious and peaceful, comprising a large relaxing lounge/dining room, very comfortably furnished. Here there is a modern flat screen TV with built-in DVD player and HIFI with CD player and also a large and varied selection of books, with some DVDs and CDs. The large conservatory has comfortable furniture and a table and chairs for dining in this real 'garden room'. The fully equipped kitchen is light and airy with double aspect windows onto fine views. The large bath/shower room is on the ground floor. Upstairs there is the large double bedroom (with en-suite sink and toilet) and twin bedroom (ideal for children and very suitable for adults too!). Between the two bedrooms there is a comfortable upper sitting room with double sofa bed. Light and airy throughout with beautiful views from every room. Free WIFI throughout the cottage.

A small welcome pack awaits all our guests.

In the immediate vicinity (i.e. walking distance) there are marked hill walks, mountain bike tracks and horse riding ways. The tiny village of Rosebush has a unique pub/restaurant and world champion cheese making farm. In the neighbouring village (a mile distance) there is a good local store and also a delightful café serving home-made and local produce and open seven days a week. Within 15 minutes drive you have coastal paths to walk, beaches, historic buildings, local artists and craft shops. Within easy access there are both land and sea nature reserves, ferries to Ireland, and opportunities for windsurfing, swimming, surfing, sailing as well as sea-fishing, dolphin and seal watching, bird sanctuary and the beautiful Picton Castle and gardens. There are also pleasure flights from Haverfordwest. For children there are many indoor and outdoor activities to discover and also theme parks (like 'Folly Farm'). There are also Neolithic and bronze age stone circles etc to explore. Full details of these many amenities are in the cottage.

Attractive and well-equipped cottage
We very much enjoyed our stay in this attractive and well equipped cottage. Although on a main road, it sits inside a 30 mph zone and we didn’t notice any traffic noise. There’s also a conservatory to enjoy at the rear and a fine view of the Preseli Hills from the windows at the front.

About the host

Hosted by Rev Richard McKay

Host profile image
I am Richard McKay, a priest serving a busy inner city parish in Bristol. I share this cottage with my friends, Ted and Mary, and we love to come here for short breaks and times of peace and refreshment as work allows. That means we have made this peaceful cottage comfortable for ourselves as well as our guests.

Why they chose this property

It is a true 'home from home', warm, welcoming and comfortable. A large and comfortable conservatory - a real 'outside' room. A local farmer is our caretaker and he and his wife are very helpful to our guests. It is ideally suited for exploring beautiful Pembrokeshire, with its ancient history, Celtic heritage and culture, rural peace. Ideal for retreats or adventure holidays and family holidays.

What makes this property unique

A place to escape the busy-ness and noise of our daily world, a truly restorative place. Many hill walks, coastal paths and night skies. Many local artists and crafts people, as well as historic buildings in the area. Easy access to offshore islands with seals and dolphins. Very good shopping area in Haverfordwest only 15 minutes away.
