About this property
Owl's Head Maine Beachfront Cottage with wonderful sand beach & stunning views
DESCRIPTION: The best way to start giving you a feel of what staying at our cottage can be like what comes from a couple of comments written in our Guest Book:
“The location of the property was the best! Whether sitting on the deck, out front at the (umbrella) table, or at the dining room table, the view was outstanding. Going to sleep and waking up to the waves on the rocks was so relaxing. Actually, all features of the property were above and beyond. Every amenity was provided, the kitchen well stocked and the house was clean. We took advantage of some of the extra beach chairs and toys. A wonderful time was had by all!”
“We love Crockett's Beach cottage. We have stayed there for 5 years and look forward to returning next year. The perfect spot to relax.”
5 miles outside of Rockland, Maine, in Owl's Head, the ocean-side private drive in to the cottage leads to a dead-end where this 3-bedroom cottage, sleeping 6, sits all by itself, nestled 25 feet from the top of the beach and with an uninhabited woods behind. Total privacy and peace: just beach, sea life, views of islands, passing boats - and you, the cottage inhabitants. Also rare about this cottage is the long, gently-sloping sand beach that stretches out to either side for approximately a quarter of a mile, so great for short or long seaside walks, browsing for shells and sea glass, and offering safe play for children to build sand castles and wade in the shallow waters of low tide or swim. If you are a parent of young ones, you can sit at the umbrella table or lounge chairs at the top of the beach and watch their every move just steps away. Or just sit there taking it all in, reading, and sipping. You can have lunch or dinner at the umbrella table too, or on the deck at the picnic table, or inside at the dining room table facing the water. Later, build a little fire in the firepit outside, roast marshmallows or just sit around the fire and enjoy a beautiful dusk or star-filled night. (The stars, by the way, are so amazing here because of the lack of light from any nearby cities or towns.)
Guests often comment on how well-supplied the cottage is – from the kitchen spices, utensils and appliances to the toys for children, beach accoutrements, lobster pot and eating paraphernalia for a fabulous Maine lobster dinner, high-speed Internet, barbecue grill on the deck, and so on.
It is always thoroughly cleaned before your arrival, with fresh sheets on the bed and clean towels hanging up for you in the bathroom. No need to bring these items with you. If you have items to wash, there is the latest model washer and dryer in the pantry with all the soap and dryer cloths you need.
With only one step up to the granite porch and then one step into the house, this one-floor home is handicap-accessible for most and perfect for young and old. Books and games abound along with DVR Cable TV with Premium Channels and DVD/VCR for movie time. 2 living room areas with closable French doors between them provide ample room for privacy and different activities going on simultaneously.
If you can drag yourself away from the beach and cottage life, there are so many beautiful and fun places nearby to visit and things to do: look for our own written description in the Section for Other Attractions and Activities.
We end our description with one more guest book comment that may sum it all up:
“When we drove down the driveway and saw the view, we knew this would be a great vacation! Then when we got to the house, it got even better. Here's what I like about the location: everything! Here's what I like about the house – everything! We feel very fortunate to have sampled this wonderful place.”
DETAILS:
Rental Period: The cottage rents from Friday to Friday with a required 7-night minimum.

About the host
Hosted by Suzanne de Boer

A family cottage for about 60 yrs., there are now 3 generations of family who vacation here. (There were 4 until we recently lost our last living 1st generation family member, 103 yr. old father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who himself was brought for summer vacation to the area first in 1918 and then vacationed here from Philadelphia until he was 100.) The property is steeped in our blood now and we find a lot of pleasure in being able to have others experience and share this practically divine place. It has always provided renewing times in our own lives: a time to reunite with family and experience the "simple" pleasures of sea, beach, family, and fun. Games are always a nighttime traditional, as well as many a full-fledged lobster dinner at the DR table or picnic table, depending on the weather or mood. We only hope you will experience some of the same joys that we have had here over the many years!
Why they chose this property
Sand beaches in Maine are rare! You can even walk out to the little island in the front at very low tide. It is very private with no access to other cottages. Children are safe anywhere on the property. You are so close to the water that you can sit on the front lawn and supervise your children on the beach.
What makes this property unique
Beautiful sun and moon rises!! Wonderful beach walks. Sleeping to the gentle sounds of the ocean. Unique for midcoast Maine - a long sand beach with slowly descending slope during mid and low tide providing safe and comfortable beach enjoyment. Proximity to stunning easily accessible beauty upon any and every drive you take. Fun town shops, and nearby Freeport outlet with anchor store, the original LL Bean. Good basic dining up to award-winning fine dining restaurants. And more, much more!!!!
