About this property
Oceanfront Island Cottage Close To Acadia
Just to the north of Acadia National Park's Schoodic Peninsula, escape to our charming family cottage on the shores of Downeast Maine. A wildlife lover's dream, our guests have enjoyed visits by moose, foxes, seals, eagles, deer and wild rabbits, and steady stream of hummingbirds. Located on a small Maine island, it is easily accessible by car over a causeway. This two bedroom, two bath cottage has a cozy and welcoming ambiance that will make you feel right at home. A fully equipped kitchen invites you to cook at home and, of course, prepare your own lobster feast. Take in the evening performance of the moon and stars while gathering around the outdoor fire pit next to the shore.
The bay is perfect for kayaking and the rocky shore is an enjoyable spot to sit and take in nature, replete with sightings of eagles, loons and seals that call the bay home. Hikers will enjoy climbing Pigeon Hill or a trek through Petit Manan State Park, just a couple of miles down the road. Live Lobsters may be purchased daily from a nearby Lobster Pound, also located on Bar Island.

We had a wonderful time and relaxing stay, kayaking in the ocean, sitting by the fire at night and a reasonble drive to Bar Harbor where we enjoyed a couple days & drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain on a picturesque morning. Great place to stay.
The house is beautiful and peaceful, filled with love and memories you can see and feel. The views are amazing, and you can watch birds and boats in the bay, watch hummingbirds come to feed, and maybe see a bald eagle. Clean, fully stocked with anything you will need during your stay (minus food of course), and a perfect reset. The only problem with the property is that you have to leave.
We had an amazing visit. The house was wonderful perfect in every way. The view was breathtaking. Very clean, it had everything one would need it the house. Would rent again without a doubt.
Stayed for 4 nights at this lovely cottage. Was very relaxing watching the tides come in & out. I was able to experience a variety of weather while there, which was cool - foggy days to bright sunny days. John was very responsive.
If you are looking for a quiet out of the way place to stay then this cabin/cottage is perfect. The location is remote but close to Acadia National Park. The views are great and the cabin is well appointed with movies, books, cooking items, games, etc. The outdoor firepit is great to sit around and relax in the evenings. Since there is very little light pollution the abundance of stars is great.
The cottage was everything we could ask for. It sits on a beautiful bay and feels very secluded. We had a fire pit to sit by & enjoy the peace and quiet in the evenings. The cottage is cozy and filled with all sorts of beach & ocean decor. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms were clean and good sized. We would love to return someday!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Nice updates. Felt cozy, but was roomy at the same time. Beautiful view which included wildlife. Short drive from Acadia National Park. Wonderful breeze in the evening. Will be recommending this cottage to our friends and family.
The cabin was everything noted online and very clean and the entire property was tidy. The location was oriented such that it felt very private was no noise around other than nature. Even saw bald eagles in their element. Entire process was easy and all met or exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this place for an extended vacation or even a short getaway.
Great little property on the coast of Maine.
Lovely little house with everything you need for a short or long stay. It was our first time to Maine so we were looking to do as much as possible in a short period in the area.
Make sure you plan for provisions in Ellsworth because it’s a ride to civilization. 😀😀
Beautiful and comfortable home and location. Super quiet, steps from the water and very well stocked. Host was proactive with communications. We had no issues and wanted for nothing but the peace and quiet of starring at the tides coming in and going out. We watched birds and even saw a seal from the property. Highly recommend.
We had so much fun during our stay in Milbridge. The house was perfect. We had the best view of the bay. I could have stayed in my spot on the sofa the whole time.
The house had everything we needed. The only thing you need to know is there were no restaurants close by that were open. You also need to stop on Elsworth to get snacks, food, etc. I would rate this 5 stars.
Our recent vacation at this house was absolutely fantastic! We were immediately struck by the great views, which truly made our stay unforgettable. We spent so much time out on the porch, mesmerized by the wildlife. Watching the seals play in the bay was a highlight, and we even spotted an eagle soaring overhead! The bay was teeming with fish, which attracted all sorts of birds alongside the seals, making for incredible natural entertainment.Beyond the stunning scenery, the house itself was wonderful. It was very clean and incredibly well-stocked with everything we could possibly need. We also loved relaxing in the front living area, simply soaking in those amazing views. The king size bed could use an upgrade it was not comfortable. However, the queen bed was extremely comfortable. We highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway with incredible natural beauty right outside their door!
The view from the front windows is mesmerizing with the flow of the tides softly moving in and out covering or revealing the rocks and seaweeds and visited by hungry birds. Although there are houses on both sides the property feels secluded. On a more practical note. the cottage layout with two bedrooms and two full baths is particularly good for two couples as it seems like two master suites. It is easy to get to Acadia or more remote spots north. The place was well equipped and very clean. Hope to come again!
This cottage was clean and cozy. It has everything that the owner boasts in the description. We enjoyed the incredible view every day. The kids picked mussels and tiny crabs at low tide, and got stuck in the sticky mud :) We saw eagles, hummingbirds, deer, and a boat catching fishes with nets not far away. At night, without the light pollution in the city, the stars had never been clearer and brighter. The cottage is reasonably close to many places (10-min driving to a grocery store, about 1-hr driving to bar harbor). We cooked lobsters twice and appreciated all the cookware in the cottage (we quickly evolved from buying lobster rolls from restaurants to making our own, which was much cheaper and equally tasty). It was a peaceful 4 days of stay with lots of fun. Highly recommend!
The only complaint is that somehow the fountain water was a little yellowish. We bought plenty drinking water from the grocery store. So it was not an issue at all.
The home is in a very quite neighborhood. The owners made sure that every possible need that we might have was taken care of before arriving. Watching the tide move in and out and all of the lobster boats coming and goi g was very nice. (I love the lake at home). If you want to cook your own lobster they provide what you need to accomplish this. If grilling is your calling no worries, provided. We’ve been on a very long road trip one that will last about three weeks and we feel this has been the best adventure we’ve had. Definitely worth stopping in to spend a few days or more.
The Picturesque Island Cottage in Milbridge was perfect for our mini vacay celebrating both our retirements! The home was lovely, super clean and has the best view! We enjoyed coming back in the evening and relaxing outside watching the tide come back in. We look forward to returning soon!
A cozy home that had obviously nurtured the owner family in lovely fashion. The owner could not have been more helpful and available. The home had everything you need for a short stay. The house was a bit dated - certainly not a five star - but totally comfortable. The view out the front porch of the bay was expansive, only slightly marred by the lobster processing plant across the water one mile away. It was usually quiet on this island with an occasional truck going by on the dirt road to the seafood processing facility nearby. All in all, we enjoyed it although quite expensive in season.
We all loved this place. It is so quiet here that we couldn’t even hear another car. The views from the windows all across the back of the house are superb. The house is very clean and the owner is super responsive. We enjoyed walking out on the mudflats at low tide and finding treasures. We enjoyed birdwatching from the house. The hummingbirds who visited us at the feeders set out by the owner are just charming. Cute dinnerware and a family cookbook and all of the feelings that this is a loved family home.
The Name Says it All! Picturesque waterfront Maine Family Home!
Felt like coming home to the family vacation cottage. Well stocked kitchen with all cooking accessories imaginable. Comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms. Very clean and ample room for a family or couples to relax. Bring your own coffee to enjoy on the porches while watching wildlife in this bird sanctuary. This location is about an hour from Bar Harbor with Winter and Birch Harbor a short drive away. Plenty to see and do or just sit waterside and watch the tide come in and out. We enjoyed the outdoor seating around the fire pit at night. Ample screened windows for the cool breeze, no A/C needed. Plenty of fans provided. We really enjoyed this place and hope to return. Perfect for two empty nest couples escaping for a long weekend.
A bit of heaven an hour from Acadia's Hulls Cove entrance
Beautiful family cottage from which to enjoy cool evening breezes even on the hottest of summer days, down time after the crowds at the National Park. Updated and cozy. Kitchen fully outfitted. Perfect for star gazing, and campfires. All conveniences anticipated. Wish we had stayed longer!
The cottage is exactly what we were looking for. Peaceful and quiet and located on a beautiful cove. We saw seals, eagles, deer, bunnies and all kinds of birds almost daily. The cottage is wonderfully equipped; lovely kitchen with every plate and gadget imaginable. Bed was very comfy. Bathrooms are very large for a cottage. Loved having use of washer & dryer. Town of Milbridge is quaint and not far away. Would love to come back one day!
A very nice down-home cottage to plant your roots for a stay! The owners have opened up their family cottage for travelers to stay, and it feels “just like home”!
Very clean, and it has most all amenities you’ll need. They recently added a Sprint WiFi hotspot and it worked very well for us — a plus in our books!
The surrounding area has lots to offer. Our favorites: Chipman’s Wharf (good selection of seafood and fresh and frozen lobster— all to take home to enjoy), Schoodic Point and Winter Harbor/Prospect Harbor. Milbridge (town to the north) with a nice gift shop, adequate grocery store, and lots of local color, and for a nice dining experience, the Crocker House Country Inn.
If you want a costal Maine experience in a quiet bay, THIS is the place to land!
