About this property

Charming historic cottage just 4 blocks from downtown (Licensed PA 17-248)

Whimsical and comfortable cottage located off a quiet alley behind our main residence. You will experience a low-key, friendly neighborhood in the heart of Ashland's Skidmore Historic District. Private garden area with back patio, outside dining for two. You can park your car and never get back in until it's time to leave. Just a 5-10 minute stroll the Ashland Co-op, restaurants, and of course Oregon Shakespeare festival.

Full kitchen and laundry. Along with the queen bed there is a single bed in the nook off the living area for a 3rd person or for those who prefer to sleep separately. The closet has lots of shelving to store your things. Bathe in the claw-foot tub or use the shower. Heat and AC keeps things comfortable. This is a light-filled groovy hideaway.

Parking is out on the street about 200 feet from the cottage.

Monthly rentals are not available except in rare circumstances and only for one person. Rate will not be significantly reduced.

Eloise:
We have a very friendly Labrador who lives on the property. Although the yards are separated by a gate, there may be some coming and going of Eloise, and you are likely to encounter her. If you do not like dogs or are not comfortable with them, this is probably not the place for you.

According to Google Maps, the distance to the OSF box office downtown is .6 miles and the walk should take approximately 10 minutes.

Charming quiet retreat.

Cute cottage in a quiet nice neighborhood yet still close to the plays and amenities in the downtown area. It would be perfect for a couple.

Absolutely Wonderful

We are counting down the days until we can book this sweet place again! There was plenty of space, were well-stocked amenities, and Julie was and is a great communicator.

Clean and well appointed... great hosts!

Super cute cottage with everything, and more, that you'd need for a stay in Ashland. Well stocked with high quality items. It's a few extra blocks from town than some other places, and there was one 5 AM train that went by, but other than that, perfect!

Lovely, comfortable , convenient , off the beaten track

THis is our second time staying here. We love the location - a short walk to the coop and theaters both but not as busy as some of the streets in this area. The cottage is well stocked and comfortable for two- might be a bit crowded for three unless it's a family.

Fabulous

Fabulously decorated and even more fabulously provisioned, the cottage is a perfect combination of the magic of a vacation spot and the practicality of a home away home.

Delightful cottage in charming Ashland

The whimsical décor made our stay a delight. It's clean, convenient, quiet, and very comfortable. We came for the Shakespeare festival but found many other activities. We walked almost everywhere. Julie is an amazing host; Eloise a great cocktail hour companion.

Cute, comfortable, and convenient

We stayed in the cottage for 5 nights, and it was perfect for us (family of 3). Very cute, felt more spacious than I expected, and well-stocked for a vacation rental. We loved having a small backyard as well. There was a heat wave in Ashland while we were there (100+ temps), but the AC worked and the house stayed pleasantly cool. The house is easy walking distance to Lithia Park, downtown, and the Food Co-op - we didn't use our car the entire stay! Would definitely stay again if (when) we make it back to Ashland.

Convenient, comfortable, pretty, fun

My husband and I stayed 5 days while visiting family. The cottage is very comfortable and quiet and generously furnished. It was meticulous. It is easy to move into- accessible wifi, well supplied kitchen, easily managed heating/cooling. The walls are soft colors with bright, interesting and fun art work. The Ashland food co-op, Lithia Park, and the Shakespeare theaters are all within easy walking distance as are many restaurants, Bloomsbury books and coffee and the Ashland library, and green space walking trails. Julie was helpful to my family before our arrival and always quick to respond to my emails and questions. We will most certainly book another stay.

Sweet Cottage

My husband, two year old daughter, and I felt as though we could move in to this sweet little home! The natural character of the original building is fully in tact, so you get to have that feeling of honoring the hands that built the home and the eyes that first took in the Ashland landscape. Additionally, Julie has thought of everything, so all modern needs are met easily and comfortably. She was very friendly and readily answered our questions. Though it was a little too chilly to enjoy the back garden when we were there, I enjoyed a few sips of coffee among the raindrops. I can only imagine how lovely it would be on a crisp, sunny morning! It is also a perfect distance from town. We walked to the bakery and food co-op (a must-must go!) and enjoyed some lovely walks around the quieter end of the neighborhood. Try to arrive in daylight as it is a bit tricky to find, but 100% worth it. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We loved this cheery vintage cottage!

This whimsical mermaid themed cottage suited our three night stay perfectly! First of all it was immaculatly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Every detail was attended to thoughtfully. From the kitchen with quality pots and pans, cute dishes, cocktail cabinet, decent knives amd even my favorite Irish tea. Wine program too with one bottle on the house. Bathroom supplied with very good argan oil shampoo and conditioner. The location was great too. Short walk to town and to the Food coop which was really nice. This is a sweet, cozy, charming, and clean cottage with a gas cast iron heater and central heat. An alcove has a fold out chair bed too. 70’s CD’s were fun to listen too and there is of course wifi. Julie was also the perfect hostess with the mostest. Comunicative but respected your privacy. We will book again when we visit next.

Peaceful and Lots of Amenities

PROS: This cottage is close enough to downtown that you can easily walk into town (about 1/2 mile away), while being tucked on a side street away from any noise. We came home in the evenings to many deer bedded down for the night - its so quiet. With a beautifully landscaped (and clearly loved) backyard area as well, this really is a place to get away! The home had lots of amenities - bottles of wine, beer in the fridge, coffee, lots of towels, extra blankets, sheets, REALLY GOOD shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We loved all the goodies and felt pampered. I also really appreciated seeing the Penzey's spices in the cupboard. Lots to choose from too!! The whole experience felt like we were visiting a friend, not staying in a rental home. CONS: There weren't many. While being .5 miles from downtown isn't far - there are certainly closer places to stay. It would have been nice to have a bike and we will be bringing ours next time! There are train tracks extremely close by and interrupted the peace a bit. In the 3 days we were there, we heard one train and it passed in about 60 seconds - so it wasn't a big deal for us.

Adorable Vintage Cottage

Pros: 1) Very cute and well-maintained vintage cottage in a high-end residential part of Ashland. 2) Adorable, small, well-maintained yard with lots of flowers and mature trees. 3) Well stocked kitchen (meaning it had everything we needed to cook full meals). 4) Everything worked (meaning the stereo worked, the water pressure was good, the toaster turned on, etc). 5) An updated heating/fan system that was great for maintaining a pleasant temperature. Cons: 1) It’s approximately 35 yards from train tracks (a train went by about once a day when we were there and NOT during the night). This really wasn’t a big deal to us but I was surprised to see how close the tracks were when we arrived. 2) Even though we paid a cleaning fee and left the place put together (and not a big mess) we were charged even more for cleaning after we left. I know this is common practice with vacation rentals but I don’t appreciate it. If you pay a cleaning fee, that should be it. 3) There was a TV, it turned on, but as far as I could tell it got about 10 fuzzy (pretty much unwatchable) channels- not a big deal to us but a good thing to know if you anticipate watching TV during your time in Ashland. Overall positive experience!

Quaint cottage

Everything one could possibly need was in the cottage. Very nicely stocked. Thank heavens for the AC since Ashland was experiencing unseasonably warm weather during our stay. Even the resident deer enjoyed the shade of the cottage, to cool down.

Great location, super quiet neighborhood

Spent 4 days/3 nights at this wonderfully charming cottage a short walk from downtown Ashland and the theaters of OSF. The host has outfitted the home with everything anyone might need or want during the stay with convenient instructions and labels to make everything easy to use. We felt welcomed with super easy check in and yet our privacy was respected…the perfect combo. I’d definitely stay here again.

What is Cozy?

Well, this house. The decor and comfy furniture, together with the gas stove, make this cottage ideal for a home away from home. I enjoyed warming my toes with a good book in front of the fire and hope to return in a warmer season to enjoy the lovely garden. The kitchen was great for cooking all our meals but location is perfect if you prefer to walk or drive to myriad restaurants a short distance away. My only complaint, is lack of parking near the house—walking the alley in pitch black in the cold/rain may be a concern for some. All in all, highly recommend.

Great stay in Ashland

We came up for a long weekend to enjoy Ashland and run the Rogue Marathon. We even got a nice trip up to see Crater Lake. The house was warm and charming. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. The home was comfortable and it was a very easy walk to the Ashland Coo-op and Lithia Park. It is not too far a walk to the Shakespeare Theaters for next time! The host was very easy to communicate with and the location was safe and quiet.

About the host

Host profile image
I am Julie, the owner of the property along with my husband, Sean. We live in the front house of the property, and our cottage in back is our vacation rental. Alongside the cottage is Sean's shop and office. We will respect your privacy during your stay just as you will honor ours.

Why they chose this property

I purchased the cottage many years ago and completely fell in love with the neighborhood. When we had the opportunity to buy the twin cottage next door, we did so. In 2015 we relocated the small historic cottages to the back of the properties, and in 2016 we built our new home up front.
