Charming historic cottage just 4 blocks from downtown (Licensed PA 17-248)
Whimsical and comfortable cottage located off a quiet alley behind our main residence. You will experience a low-key, friendly neighborhood in the heart of Ashland's Skidmore Historic District. Private garden area with back patio, outside dining for two. You can park your car and never get back in until it's time to leave. Just a 5-10 minute stroll the Ashland Co-op, restaurants, and of course Oregon Shakespeare festival.
Full kitchen and laundry. Along with the queen bed there is a single bed in the nook off the living area for a 3rd person or for those who prefer to sleep separately. The closet has lots of shelving to store your things. Bathe in the claw-foot tub or use the shower. Heat and AC keeps things comfortable. This is a light-filled groovy hideaway.
Parking is out on the street about 200 feet from the cottage.
Monthly rentals are not available except in rare circumstances and only for one person. Rate will not be significantly reduced.
Eloise: We have a very friendly Labrador who lives on the property. Although the yards are separated by a gate, there may be some coming and going of Eloise, and you are likely to encounter her. If you do not like dogs or are not comfortable with them, this is probably not the place for you.
According to Google Maps, the distance to the OSF box office downtown is .6 miles and the walk should take approximately 10 minutes.

We had a wonderful stay at Julie’s cottage. It was cheery & bright, well appointed and immaculate. So cozy too! Very convenient location and walking distance from great dining, shopping and OSF. We can’t wait to come back!
My daughter and I stayed at this cute, charming, clean and comfortable cottage located near central Ashland. An easy walk to plays, restaurants, Lithia Park and shopping. All in all a five star stay and I highly recommend this accommodation!
Everything one could possibly need was in the cottage. Very nicely stocked. Thank heavens for the AC since Ashland was experiencing unseasonably warm weather during our stay. Even the resident deer enjoyed the shade of the cottage, to cool down.
This charming cottage is home to a number of mermaids, which is so very fun. It’s also impeccably clean, super well outfitted, and extremely comfortable. We loved it!!!!
The whimsical décor made our stay a delight. It's clean, convenient, quiet, and very comfortable. We came for the Shakespeare festival but found many other activities. We walked almost everywhere. Julie is an amazing host; Eloise a great cocktail hour companion.
Spent 4 days/3 nights at this wonderfully charming cottage a short walk from downtown Ashland and the theaters of OSF. The host has outfitted the home with everything anyone might need or want during the stay with convenient instructions and labels to make everything easy to use. We felt welcomed with super easy check in and yet our privacy was respected…the perfect combo. I’d definitely stay here again.
The house was a joy to stay in. The owners obviously took great care in creating a fun and comfortable place to stay. Such character, and walking distance to restaurants, parks, and Oregon Shakespeare Festival locations.
Well, this house. The decor and comfy furniture, together with the gas stove, make this cottage ideal for a home away from home. I enjoyed warming my toes with a good book in front of the fire and hope to return in a warmer season to enjoy the lovely garden. The kitchen was great for cooking all our meals but location is perfect if you prefer to walk or drive to myriad restaurants a short distance away. My only complaint, is lack of parking near the house—walking the alley in pitch black in the cold/rain may be a concern for some.
All in all, highly recommend.
We came up for a long weekend to enjoy Ashland and run the Rogue Marathon. We even got a nice trip up to see Crater Lake. The house was warm and charming. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. The home was comfortable and it was a very easy walk to the Ashland Coo-op and Lithia Park. It is not too far a walk to the Shakespeare Theaters for next time! The host was very easy to communicate with and the location was safe and quiet.
This little house surpassed all expectations with its comfort and whimsy. My four-year-old granddaughter and I couldn’t have had a more special week than in this sweet Cottage that we called home. It was cozy, yet impeccable. We couldn’t have dreamt up a more ideal getaway. A bargain!
Julie has thought of all to make your stay just perfect. The rental was just as described and we cannot wait to return to visit Ashland and stay here again. Decorated in a fun and inviting way with the kitchen fully stocked with plates and cooking utensils/bowls etc. as well as towels etc. The patios are just perfect to sit on and start or end your day.
Thank you for a terrific vacation!

A lovely early 20th century home near downtown Ashland. The home's interior is filled with the owner's creative decorative touches. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. The bed is quite comfortable. There are ample linens and bedding on hand.
This property was adorable, lovely and so much fun to stay in. So central to everything. The AC was amazing (important since it was so hot). I can’t wait to stay there again!
A Cute Cottage for comfort, ease, and walkability to Downtown
This place was really cute and clean. It was located in a quiet neighborhood that was easy walking from the heart of downtown Ashland. Traveling with a 3 year old it was nice to have some space and also be able to walk to all the parks and playgrounds. We didn’t even rent a car for most of the trip and got around great on foot. The beds were surprisingly comfy, my mom slept on the single mattress and was super impressed (she can be picky about comfort so that was a relief). The kitchen is well stocked and you are located close to the local co-op for groceries. I would definitely recommend this place to stay in Ashland!
Had a lovely time staying in this spacious cottage which is brightly painted, and nicely appointed with thrift shop finds. Great mattress. Thoughtful touches throughout. Quiet location close to town. Enjoyed sitting on the back porch with lots of flowers, while deer grazed across the alley out front.
I stayed here with my two daughters (my little is small enough to share the queen with me and my teen loved her little nook).
The kitchen was well stocked. I loved the wine exchange program- so fun and convenient! Within easy walking distance to Ashland. The front porch with nice views of the mountains was my favorite morning spot.
I loved this place and hope to come back. Thank you!
So loved our time in Julie's adorable and cozy house. It was spotlessly clean, full of everything we needed, and in a perfect location for getting out and about in Ashland. We would definitely stay here again.
What a beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and excellently located home away from home. So cozy and quiet. We came with our 14 year old son to explore Ashland for a couple of days.
The cottage is very close to downtown and on a quiet residential street. Julie provided a perfect place to stay and we hope to come back sometime in the future to spend more time in the area. Thank you!
This cottage was perfect for our family of three! The kitchen was well-stocked and the whole home was full of thoughtful touches to aid relaxation - books, games, stereo, a wine program. The bed and couch were so comfortable and the quiet location was so relaxing. I liked the back and front porches for a quiet moment outside, and it only took about 10 minutes to walk to downtown, even with my 7 year old. The host, Julie was so kind and responsive as well. Definitely a great find in Ashland!!!

About the host
Hosted by Julie Downey
I am Julie, the owner of the property along with my husband, Sean. We live in the front house of the property, and our cottage in back is our vacation rental. Alongside the cottage is Sean's shop and office. We will respect your privacy during your stay just as you will honor ours.
Why they chose this property
I purchased the cottage many years ago and completely fell in love with the neighborhood. When we had the opportunity to buy the twin cottage next door, we did so. In 2015 we relocated the small historic cottages to the back of the properties, and in 2016 we built our new home up front.
