About this property

10 Steps And You're In Sebasticook Lake. This Is Where You Go To Unplug

Picture this; A rural dirt road leads you through the woods, past cottages dotting the edge of Sebasticook Lake. After a half mile you'll see on your left a line of boulders that set the scene for your entry to Quilt Maker Cottage. This sweet little cottage sits nestled in the trees. A horseshoe drive goes around the perimeter of the level, almost acre, lawn. Perfect for playing Corn-hole, Croquet, Badminton, Horseshoes, or just run with the kids or dog. Yes I did say dog. This cottage is only dog friendly. Sorry, no kitties, reptiles, hedgehogs, or other fancy critters allowed. Contract with owner has stipulations. This cottage is 600 square feet in size, and has been completely remodeled. Open floor plan with full size appliances in the kitchen. The pantry can hold just about anything you want to put in there. Head up the 'pure cottage' stairs to the master bedroom. A wall of windows with white sheer curtains that waft in the breeze is waiting at the top. From the Queen size bed the first thing you see in the morning and last thing you see at night is beautiful Sebasticook Lake, while you listen to the water lapping the shore and the Loons sing their songs. Why does this cottage have 'Quilt Maker' in the title? Because you will see there are handmade quilts everywhere for your warmth and to take you back in time to Grandma's house. There's even a sewing machine if you're in the mood to work on a project.:) Back downstairs is a full bathroom with tub/shower, stack washer/dryer, and a cool porthole window that opens. The living room has a queen sofa sleeper, TV, Bluray DVD player and large selection of movies. Bring your own games and hook them up to the TV. There are board games also. No WIFI as of yet but cellular service is great. No cable service but 6 -7 channels are crystal clear with one being a National channel.
Large L shaped, sleeping porch, can sleep 2 more on full size bed. Also on the porch you will find a dining table for 4, 2 more sofas and 1 chair.
Now the best part! 10 steps and you're in the lake! Boat Dock, 2 kayaks, 2 paddle boards, paddle boat, and a campfire pit(wood provided) for those evenings to tell scary stories. There are two areas for outdoor dining. There is a large platform with dining table, a picnic table and a gas grill for those fun cookouts. There is a hammock, and the sunsets are remarkable!
Newport is centrally located in the state of Maine and is within 90 minute drive to Bar Harbor, 30 minutes to Bangor Airport, two hours to Portland airport and is about 1 mile to Anglers Seafood Restraunt. Best seafood for the seafood lover!
Sebasticook Lake is the largest lake (4,288 acres) within the confines of an individual municipality in the State of Maine. The lake provides for many recreational activities: swimming, boating, fishing, and snowmobiling. Both lake and its shores provide habitats for several wildlife species, such as sea run alewives, smelts, smallmouth bass, white perch, black crappie, and many bird species.

We had a great time unplugging at this property. Everything was very clean and well-managed. All was as described in the listing. WiFi worked fine. Kitchen was set up to cook. Bed upstairs was very comfy. Stores are roughly 10 minutes - no problem. Kayaks and gear all in good shape and accessible. Neighbors were closer than expected but it was a holiday and it was not a problem. We swam every day and kayaked. Then just hung out and played cribbage at night. Did some hiking at Pleasant River. It was very peaceful. There were some pretty loud parties across the lake but again, it was a holiday and really no problem. Very nice rental experience overall.

Vacation getaway!

We really enjoyed our vacation in Newport. The camp was lovely and our 15 year old dog acted like a pup swimming and exploring. We had a great time and the camp is close to town if you need anything. We hope to come back soon. Thank you!!

Great getaway

Wonderful peaceful property, close to Acadia. We stayed over Labor Day weekend and had a great experience! Very clean and well organized, everything provided. There is some construction going on next door, but it wasn’t particularly loud so didn’t affect us at all.

Fantastic property

Cottage was exactly what we were hoping for: small but updated, clean, options for sleeping arrangements, right on the water, well stocked with necessities. Everyone loved the paddle boards and kayaks (tandem!) and eating on screened porch. Setup was perfect for keeping track of kids, and they loved all the DVDs.

Lake life at its best

This is our 8th time going to this cottage We have been too many cottages through out the years. This is by far the best. Dan has everything you would need for a relaxing stay , plus many water toys. Everyday you can go out on the dock and watch the Bald eagles in the tree a few hundred ft away. We plan on coming back next year just have to pick the dates.

Everything you need!

Beautiful, clean and welcoming. No wifi but they had a ton of movies, campfire location was amazing, we didn't get to use any of the kayaks or paddle boards because of the wind, and we had a 2 year old with us. It was great to see they had a ton of activities to do. Next time I return to Maine I will be bringing all of my kids and this will be the first place I look for.

Quiet and charming

Cute cottage with everything needed for a stay on a lake in Maine. Beautiful sunsets every night. Stairway to the upstairs bedroom is tight with smaller than average size stairs. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen has everything needed. Smaller compote bowls would be nice for dips/one scoop salads for smaller portions. Appliances worked great. Fridge kept everything fresh and cold. Lots of water activities with small wading area. We saw eagles and Loons every morning. Very quiet even with new construction on both sides of cottage. Lots of indoor activities in case of rain. Tv,s worked great with Roku. Several channels to choose from. Wifi worked great. No complaints except we should have stayed longer.

Mixed Bag

The pros: Great location with great views of the lake and access to the water. The porch on the back is wonderful especially if it rains. Sleeping accommodations were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Cons: We had some troubles at check in as we had not received the code via email as the owner said. Also, it seemed a previous guest had a dog and there was still a lot of dog hair on the furniture that covered our clothes. We had several unfortunate events with the storm door glass breaking when the mowers came and clothes being stuck under the agitator in the washing machine that were beyond our control. Also heads up to those in smaller cars- the road to the house has not been leveled recently and is passable but slow going and pretty bumpy. The owner was fairly quick to respond to the glass breaking incident and the check in mishap, but his response to the laundry incident was frustrating, though it was eventually resolved. On the whole it is a nice place to stay and I think some of our experiences were just freak accidents that others won’t experience, but this is an honest review based on what occurred while we were there.

Some confusion with check in (likely due to me deleting unfamiliar email address months earlier) and my reluctance to bother the host with relentless inquiries leading up to our stay. Fortunately I was able to contact them upon arrival. Everything else was perfect.

Back Again

Sweet, cozy cottage right on the shore of Lake Sebasticook. My husband and I have stayed here several times and will be back, hopefully, for many more visits. It's small but provides a comfortable place to unwind. It's quiet. Morning coffee on the sunporch and sunset next to the campfire are the best ! Stairs inside are steep and are not suitable for children or those with mobility issues. The outside has many, many tree roots with uneven terrain so care must be taken when walking next to the cabin. Lots of space for playing games and such on the back lawn and the small front yard is great for reading and R&R. Restaurants, fast food, grocery stores ( Walmart and Hannaford) are located within a couple of miles. Bangor is 30 min drive and Bar Harbor is a couple of hours away if you fancy a day trip. Pets are welcome. Washer and dryer are provided. There is a pod-type coffee maker and microwave but no dishwasher. Overall a nice little place for a couple to spend a relaxing vacation. by the the campfire areCoffeeTheCofthesun

Wonderful lakeside cottage with lots of privacy

The only problem we had was finding the driveway since there was a neighborhood party going on and there were cars parked at the head of the driveway. Other than that, the cottage was perfect and the owner very helpful. I would point out the staircase to the bedroom is rather steep and narrow and perhaps would be difficult for some older folks.

My wife, Lanci and I have been married since 1995. We moved to the Newport area in 1998 to take care of Lanci's grandmother. Since then My wife retired from the Army National Guard and I retired from the Police Department. We own and operate several businesses in Newport. We both are excited about purchasing our new Cottage.

Why they chose this property

My wife and I looked at this property and fell in love with it. We really felt that this was the place that we could surely share with our rental friends from Maine and many other states. We look forward of having many fond memories in this Cottage.

What makes this property unique

The second you pull in the driveway the lake opens up behind the cottage. Its a wow! You are not even curious about the cottage inside, because the outside is what draws you to scope out the whole yard and beach first. Nestled under the trees is a sweet little cottage thats neither too big or too small. 600 square feet of cottage that has everything you need. Easy to maintain and clean. I don't even leave unless I'm out of food.
