About this property
Secluded Cottage on Great Moose Lake
An original Maine camp built in 1942 has been completely remodeled and is now available for your quiet getaway. Four acres of land will ensure your privacy and leave you feeling like you're at one with nature. Perched a mere 20 feet from the lake, you can watch the sun come up in the morning while having coffee on the deck, and listen to the loons lull you to sleep each evening.
In Hartland, Maine, on the 3856 acre Great Moose Lake, camp is surrounded by natural beauty in an area that is primarily undeveloped providing for a peaceful retreat and the opportunity to reconnect with nature. Our cottage is on the northeast cove granting easy access to the main lake and is not congested with boat traffic.
Just over three hours from Boston, camp is a spectacular place to visit from spring through fall. It sits on 4 acres land with 420 feet of water front and a dock for water access, boating, and swimming. On sight are two kayaks, a canoe, and row boat for your use. Fishing is open year-round and the successful angler can catch brown trout, large / small mouth bass, perch, and catfish.
In the fall, the foliage is rivaled only by the white mountains and Great Moose Lake is a quiet paradise in which to enjoy the autumn colors and the wildlife abound.
Camp has been completely remodeled with knotty pine throughout, area rugs, and new furniture. With two levels, the main floor is open and consists of a living room (right on the lake) with the kitchen and dining area all in one cozy space. A breakfast bar provides additional seating and new appliances give camp a comfortable finished feel while the bathroom offers a shower, toilet, washer, and dryer. The upstairs loft has also been finished with knotty pine, wall-to-wall carpeting, and has two beds, a queen and a double.
The local area is a beautiful country setting that consists of a few restaurants, golf courses, and even a local guide service that can assist you in pursuit of your outdoor passions. In the nearby town of Skowhegan, Bigelow Brewing Company is a favorite local hang out offering delicious wood fired brick oven pizza and an array of craft beers, Oak Pond Brewery is another great place for the beer enthusiast and is also nearby. If you’re looking for more of an adventure, Acadia National Park is less than two hours away.
Housekeeping is the responsibility of the renter. Upon arrival, you will find camp clean, with sheets and pillow cases in a storage container on each bed, towels and face cloths in the bathroom cabinets. The kitchen appliances and other necessities are clean as well as the bathroom accouterments. Each tenant is expected to leave camp as clean / cleaner than they found it.

About the host
Hosted by Don Huston

Growing up in the lakes region of New Hampshire, the whole family looked forward to going "upta camp." Describing the original camp to friends over the years was always difficult as many could not imagine nor comprehend the adventure that we spoke of with such passion… A three-hour ride in a car to the middle of nowhere, a boat ride across the lake in the dark, the smell of the gas lamps, the path through the woods connecting us to our neighbors, no road, no cars, no electricity... an outhouse, and the lake was our bath tub; my how times have changed!
Why they chose this property
After traveling the world and 22 years of service, I retired and took advantage of the opportunity to finish camp and turn it into a cozy retreat; as I needed a nice place to escape the daily grind, the influx of people, and technology. Being one of the original seven camps on the northeast cove, we have a deep-rooted history in a serene environment with delightful neighbors. Realizing that I was not the only one who needed a cozy, remote, lakeside cottage in which to escape with my beautiful bride, I have decided to share it with you!
What makes this property unique
Camp has been in our family for over 50 years. Now, for the first time, we have decided to share our little piece of heaven and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do. Just this year we completely remodeled the entire camp and have taken great care in providing a nice relaxing atmosphere for all to enjoy. While choosing the appropriate place for your vacation is never an easy task, we are hoping to attract couples who will appreciate our little camp and treat it with the same love and respect that we have for so many years.
