About this property
Leat Cottage, Lifton - a perfect Devon escape
On the outskirts of the historic village of Lifton and recently refurbished, Leat Cottage is tucked away on a leafy, quiet Devon lane. It's just 5 minutes from the A30, convenient for Dartmoor and the North Devon and Cornish coasts. It is also directly on the newly designated Tamara Way public footpath. Ideal for walking, cycling, shooting, fishing, water sports or just getting away from it all. The village boasts a pub, a deli & café, 2 hotels with restaurants and bars, a Post Office and the award winning Strawberry Fields restaurant and farm shop; all within easy walking distance.
The space
Away from the congestion of the coast or Dartmoor, Leat Cottage is perfectly located in the Tamar Valley AONB. Ideal for relaxing in the West Devon countryside or enjoying the many local attractions and activities.
The cottage is finished to the highest standards featuring traditional whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings and a stone fireplace with wood burning stove. It also has a combi-boiler hot water and central heating system throughout. We offer accommodation for up to five people comprising; one double, one twin, one single and a family shower room. Downstairs provides comfortable, open-plan living in a traditional setting with a sitting area, dining area, and a fully equipped modern kitchen opening onto a private garden with BBQ and patio.
Fishing on the rivers Lyd and Tamar for salmon, sea trout, brown trout and grayling can be arranged locally. The cottage is only a five-minute walk from five named pools. There is also a well stocked trout lake in the village. More widely, there is fishing available on Dartmoor and various lakes and reservoirs. Guiding on the Tamar and Lyd, particularly night fishing for sea trout, is also available by prior arrangement with experienced and qualified local instructors. Shooting is available locally when in season, but advance booking is essential.
The nearby World Heritage Town of Tavistock is a short 15-minute drive and is the gateway to exploring Dartmoor. It provides a wide variety of pubs, restaurants, shops, banks and its famous Pannier Market is a must for the first-time visitor. More locally, within a five minute walk, the village has two pubs and two hotels including the famous Arundell Arms Hotel. Also located in the village is the award-winning and highly popular Strawberry Fields farm shop offering a restaurant and coffee shop serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas. The main shop itself has an on-site bakery, deli, butchers and wide selection of fresh local produce and groceries. Located in the centre of the village is a post office and licenced newsagents which also stocks a small range of Groceries. Within a short fifteen-minute drive are numerous highly recommended pubs and award-winning restaurants.
