About this property

Riverside retreat by Brunel’s Bridge, balcony view, off‑road parking, EV charger

Set right beside Brunel’s iconic Royal Albert Bridge, this bright two‑storey detached home offers uninterrupted river views and a peaceful base for exploring both Cornwall and Devon. Open the patio doors and watch sailing boats glide along the Tamar from the comfortable lounge, or relax on the balcony with a book and a chilled drink as the sun sets.
The compact, well‑equipped kitchen includes an electric hob, oven, microwave and small fridge/freezer; let us know if you need anything extra. The lounge features a TV with Freeview and reliable Wi‑Fi. A good‑sized double bed with quality linen and a cosy duvet is tucked away on the second floor. The separate bathroom has a shower, basin and WC. Central heating and plentiful hot water keep the property comfortable year‑round.
Off‑road parking is included and an on‑site electric vehicle charger is available to guests for a small fee. Well‑behaved pets are welcome by arrangement; we ask that they are not left alone in the apartment and do not climb or sleep on the furniture or bed.
Perfect for walkers and nature lovers, the property sits on the Gateway to Cornwall while also offering easy access to the spectacular landscapes of Dartmoor. Spend a day exploring Dartmoor’s tors, moorland walks and historic villages, then return to riverside tranquillity. Local rail and river trips make visiting coastal towns such as Looe and St Ives simple, while Plymouth’s waterfront, theatres and historic quarters are a short bus or taxi ride away.

Great Location

It is central to all amenities. The Ferry Inn is very friendly and did great gin & tonic fish and chips on Friday. Great for dogs as has a little memorial park to walk them 2mins away. Close to Dartmoor and ponies and lovely pub The Boot Inn in Clearbrook.

Excellent Ocean City Base

The perfect base for our week in Plymouth. Elaine was easy to contact and provided all the information we needed. The cottage was very well equipped and had a lovely view of the River Tamar. The attention to detail and the little extras were great. We would definitely stay here again if we needed accommodation in Plymouth.

Great stay. Lovely little touches left by the host e.g milk, croissants etc. Really nice Boathouse and nice and clean. Ideal location for visiting Cornwall as just over the bridge. Lovely views. Underneath the arches! A superbly situated flat, overlooking the Tamar across to Saltash.

The comforting sound of trains running over Brunel's Tamar Bridge, a regular weekday bus into Plymouth, the gentle movement of the boats moored in the river and the turning of the tide make for an ideal stay. The stairs are a tad steep but are worth the effort. Bathroom is, downstairs and bedroom up. Lovely, local "hosts" and kind welcome "gifts" add a kind touch.

Brunel Boathouse

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here it was very relaxing and the locals made us feel welcome at the local watering hole. If i could just say the boathouse could do with a couple of pint glasses as we had nothing to put our beer in. That was our only complaint but is was just a minor complaint. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you.

Position perfect

A beautiful little property positioned perfectly for exploring both near and far. Access to major roads was easy for whichever direction we chose to go. Bus stop at the door for anything close, including the city centre. Hosts were terrific, after a little problem at the very start of our stay. Problem was fixed quickly with supreme good grace and humour.

We stayed for 4 nights. Comfortable property suitable for a couple. Welcome fudge was a nice touch. May not be suitable for those with mobility issues as there are 2 sets of stairs. Located very close to the river bank and directly underneath the historic Brunel Railway Bridge. There was noise from the trains but not too intrusive.Things we felt could be improved were, the blind over the porthole window in the bedroom. It was too small to block out light adequately. Would have liked another bedside lamp. We would stay again but things we missed, an airing line on the balcony, a teapot and a sieve.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful review — we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your four-night stay and found the property comfortable and well-suited for a couple. It’s lovely to know the welcome fudge was appreciated — we enjoy adding those little touches to make guests feel at home. We’re glad the location worked well for you, especially being so close to the riverbank and the iconic Brunel Railway Bridge. While the occasional train noise is part of the charm of the setting, we’re happy to hear it wasn’t too disruptive. Thank you also for your constructive feedback — it’s incredibly helpful. We’ve taken note of your suggestions regarding the porthole blind, bedside lamp, and the items you missed like the airing line, teapot, and sieve. These are all very reasonable requests, and we’ll be reviewing them to see how we can improve the experience for future guests. We’d be delighted to welcome you back again and truly appreciate your comments — they help us continue refining the space with care and attention.

Unusual and interesting little Boathouse

We had a lovely relaxing stay in The dog-friendly Boathouse, which included our own dog Teddy, and which is beside the River Tamar in an interesting position right beneath the Tamar Bridge. No problems BUT I would say that if you are OLD people like us, (in our seventies and a bit creaky) there are lots of (steep) stairs which we had difficulty on. I would have liked to have seen a schematic drawing of The Boathouse before visiting; similar to what you get with a caravan. Of course, the local roads are very steep for walking too, but I was already aware from Google Maps of that. I enjoyed their choice of art on the walls but perhaps a little shelf on the wall in the bathroom might have helped. Perhaps I took too many toiletries ! Also, a 2-way light to go up to bed in the roof, then turn it off from upstairs. I used a torch. The hosts were both friendly, and interesting and helpful and when the shower power tripped out, about 7:30 in the morning I phoned their mobile number and it was sorted within 2 minutes. There are plenty of facilities in The Boathouse, including local information, soap and a lovely box of local fudge. There is a really fantastic view sitting on the balcony. It was spectacular, and you can watch the boats on the river. Teddy spent his time often on the fluffy royal blue mat beside the balcony glass doors. I'd recommend the Boathouse to anyone and I'd love to visit again.
