About this property
Classic Maine Cottage on a Wonderful Waterfront Location
Idyllic, well maintained, classic Maine cottage on crystal clear lake - lovely knotty pine interior and bar. Near Acadia, Bar Harbor, Schoodic Point & numerous other great day trip destinations. Unlimited activities at the lake incl. wooded trails, beaver pond, nearby green for ball playing, etc., basketball hoop, etc. Very private. Located at the mouth of a brook right on edge of a cove of this beautiful lake Has a beach & float, a row boat, a canoe and 2 kayaks. Great swimming andvery safe for small children. Branch is one of the cleanest, clearest lakes in Maine. Great deck overlooking the water, large bathroom , completely stocked kitchen. Cozy bedrooms. Great sunsets
Nature at the door: A 'magical spot', the 'best vacation we ever had' are phrases that you will see in the guest book at our cottage (or camp as they are called in Maine). Our spot is secluded and right on the water. The temperature of the water in summer is just right and the quality of it is close to drinking water. Loons, various kinds of ducks as well as eagles, cormorants, kingfishers and blue herons are always someplace or other in the vicinity. As a matter of fact, you don't have to leave the dock to see them as they normally make daily passes by our place.
Activities away from the cottage: Your days can be filled with any number of fun activities ranging from a tour of beautiful Acadia National Park or a day trip to innumerable neat coastal destinations. The nearby golf course which overlooks beautiful Phillips Lake is something to try for golfers. The Lucern Inn at the same location & with the same view is a great place for dinner. There are several other great restaurants in Ellsworth or in the Bangor/Brewer area. Two places in Ellsworth of note are the Union River Lobster Pot and Finn's Irish Pub. We can also put you in touch with a lobster fisherman where you will get the best deal around on lobsters caught that day if you want to have lobsters at 'camp'. We'll even treat you to your first four if you buy them from our friend.
Activities at the Lake: An early morning or late afternoon kayak ride will bring you in touch with nature. If they can pull themselves out of the water, kids will enjoy catching frogs. turtles and tadpoles in the brooks that run nearby. Basketball in our yard and other kinds of ball on the green just across the road is an activity for all ages. Joggers will enjoy the various roads around the lake for their daily runs. For those who fish, rowing out 50 - 100 yards or across the Cove to the rocks and going after bass with artificial worms or a Rapala at dusk might be rewarding. There's nothing wrong with just reading a book on our great deck at water's edge either. With appropriate caution, you will enjoy a bonfire on the beach at night under the Milky Way, Big Dipper and North Star plus a few million other celestial bodies.

About the host
Hosted by John & Kaye Lyons - CyberRentals Member since May 2001

Owners, Kaye & John have four grown children - all males. All the boys grew up spending time at the "camp" as they call lake houses in Maine. John grew up in nearby Bangor and actually, as a young boy, went to Camp Jordan which is still just around the shore to the right as you leave the Cove. so he knows not only the lake well but this whole part of Maine. Although he left Maine to go to Duke University after high school, his mind has always been back in Maine. He met Kaye in Cleveland and they married soon after he got transferred to Chicago where they raised the boys and still live. Their boys, 3 of whom are married with children, cannot let a summer go by without a trip back to Branch. John owns a money management firm.
Why they chose this property
John's mother was the impetus for buying the property as John & his 3 sisters always wanted to come back to Maine as often as possible. As you might see, the location which affords much privacy but still sits within feet of the lake and additionally has easy access to the wonders of this part of Maine makes the place a very desirable site.
What makes this property unique
The camp and property has gone through many changes over the years including a progression from both gas and electric toilets to the wonderful bathroom & septic system that exists today. That is common for the older camps in Maine. However, the original and "classic Maine" knotty pine interior still exists which, married to the improvements that have been added along the way, present the best of the old and the new.
