Great location for exploring RI beaches and nearby sites
3 generation family vacation; visited Newport and Block Island before weather improvements allowed us to enjoy close by beaches; host was very responsive to our needs
Easy commute to Narragansett Beach; we rented bikes and headed over to URI for a day exploring campus; great restaurant around the block and walking distance to Main Street. Nice quiet and peaceful spot for time away with high school junior.
We left Wakefield with so many happy memories from the bike path to the front porch to walking to Brickleys for ice cream or soco baking company. Charming, relaxed vacation spot with everything you need to unwind and take a break from it all!
Cute older home in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. Everything you want to see is close by. The owner is very nice and replys quickly to emails. We all really enjoyed our time in RI!
Had a wonderful time. The house is absolutely charming and so comfortable. Location is amazing for beach trips, visiting Newport and other local towns. Lovely property and neighborhood. Walkable to town, restaurants, and ice cream. Could not have a better location! 5 stars all around.
The home was amazing with its 70s decor. Kept finding interesting pieces all over the house. Enjoyed coffee on the front porch every morning. The home was centrally situated to beach and downtown. We had a great time and hated to leave.
Great style, fun location right on the bike path and close to a few fun ice cream places, near-ish to the beach. However, the week we were there was super hot and there is no air conditioning available, which we knew going in, but is a good thing to keep in mind. If you are sensitive to heat/humidity, just be aware that it will be toasty. Also, it could have been more thoroughly cleaned before we arrived.

Dear Emily,
Thank you for your comments. Yes, during heat waves, the upstairs can get warm. I am typically OK comfort-wise with the fans going, but understand that for some, it can get too warm.
I will also speak to my cleaners to improve their protocols. We had lots of quick turnovers this summer and it likely impacted what they could get done between guests. I think a couple deep cleanings over the course of the summer are needed, and will institute that for next summer. Hoping you enjoyed your vacation despite these issues.
Best,
Courtney
Loved the artsy eclectic home with a beachy and hippie flair. Everything was as expected and Courtney was very responsive. Plenty of comfortable seating and places to hang out. The beds were comfortable. Awesome to have a full kitchen and a porch to relax on in the backyard is private. One thing I would mention for people who are challenged going up and down stairs. The staircase to the second floor is pretty steep, and the banister is low. Just something to be aware of. Wonderful place to stay for our vacation. The bike path can get you right to Narragansett town beach in 15 minutes and you can walk a couple blocks to shops and restaurants in Wakefield.
I was interested in a mini vacation with my daughter, SIL and my nine month old granddaughter; it was a last minute trip. I saw this property on VRBO’s website and submitted a request for the dates I was interested in staying at the property. The property was available for the dates I requested (for the following week of my inquiry) so I was more than overjoyed that we were able to have the mini vacation. The property was exactly as pictured on the website; eclectic, artsy, a fun place to relax after a day at the beach. It was just a minute walk to the Main Street where there were many places to go in and browse for unique items, antiques, jewelry, clothing, places to eat, etc. Scarborough Beach was just ten minutes away from this property. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time staying here and will definitely come back. The only thing we did not enjoy was the outside shower; there were several spiders in their webs in that shower so we passed on using it. We did not want to disturb the spiders.

Nice stay in Wakefield with a few disappointments
We just spent a week at Sharon Cottage and had a very nice time for the most part. The house is spacious and comfortable and is situated on a lovely, quiet street. We appreciated the proximity to beaches, the bike path, and the short walk to town, where there is an abundance of wonderful restaurants and cute shops. The living areas of the house, especially the dining room and living room, are charming and comfortable. The upstairs bathroom is particularly large and functional, with plenty of counter space. One major disappointment we experienced is that it became immediately clear that the photos in the listing seem like they were taken several years ago and the house is ready for some updating. The exterior paint is peeling badly, and the aging outdoor furniture is the low point of an otherwise beautiful setting. If the backyard had new or otherwise clean and stylish furniture, we would have spent much more time out there. We also had to spend a good part of our time dealing with ants in the kitchen and insects in other areas of the house as well as the outdoor trash bins. We were able to go with the flow and had a generally great week, but we recommend that the owner address some areas of the house that need attention, updating and freshening up.

Thank you for your feedback, David. We've been working hard to invest in this antique house to improve the very neglected condition it was in when we bought it some 8 years ago as our budget allows, (focusing the last 6-7 years on getting our kids through college). We had the exterior painted when we bought the house, but the paint job did not last as long as I would have liked. I've been in the process of contacting painters, getting quotes and getting on their calendar for the past several months. We are hoping to have the exterior repainted by the end of the year. We have done numerous improvements on the interior, most recently new flooring, and kitchen countertops, sink & backsplash. I repaint or touchup the interior paint annually, and update photos on a regular basis. I hear you regarding the backyard furniture. The hanging chair and grill are new, but the table needs replacing and some additional seating would be good. That will be prioritized on the list of to-do's as we try to provide the best possible experience for our guests. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your summer!
We had a great stay here. Several comfortable nooks. Lots of little treasures to discover both about the home and the town. And 10 mins from the beach.
Property was quaint and comfortable. It had so much personality one couldn’t keep there eyes off the vintage beauty. Fun!!! Short walk to restaurants and a 10 minute drive to the beach. Couldn’t ask for more.
We had a good time and used up all the bedrooms with our family of 6. We were thankful for the newly installed AC units in two of the bedrooms. The location is fantastic as we headed into Newport 3 separate days and took the ferry from Point Judith to Block Island one day.
Love the charm of this vintage 1885 home, décor is beautiful, and just makes you relax as soon as you arrive. Owner was very helpful, and property is just as described.
I really enjoyed our stay in the house. We arrived on a Thursday night and the house was only a short walk into town where they had food and live music, it was a great place to walk around. The house itself if nice: decorated with beautiful artwork, plenty of places to hang out both downstairs and in the backyard, fire pit, outdoor shower etc. The house is in a good location, it’s close to Narragansett and Scarborough beaches and not too far from Newport. The owner Courtney got back to me fast and was a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Rhode Island.

About the host
Hosted by Courtney Collins-Carreras
I am an artist and my husband is a scientist. We have two adult daughters, and a dog, a cat, and a snake at our primary home in CA.
Why they chose this property
After spending my childhood summer vacations on Block Island, I've always dreamed of owning a house on the RI coast. My two sisters live in the area and the rest of my family remain in New England, while I ventured out to CA. I wanted to have property close to my family and love old homes, like the one I grew up in. This beautiful little house needed some love, and I am thrilled to be its current caretaker. Wakefield is such a cool, vibrant village and the home's location is just perfect. I feel so fortunate to have found it and to have been able to make it mine. Its a dream come true.
What makes this property unique
The best thing about this house is its location. On a quiet street and yet in the middle of everything, you can walk or bike to everything you need. The So. County bike path is right behind the house and a beautiful route to take into town or to the beach. Inside, I love the character, period details and high ceilings - this house is a real charmer. Walk through the antique screen door onto the front porch to sit, read and watch the world go by, or head to the shady backyard for an outdoor shower, or to gather on the back patio for a bbq.
