About this property

Peaceful, Artsy Antique Home In Central Location Near Beaches, Shops, Bike Path

Looking for a rustic, relaxing, artsy home from which to stroll into town for dinner, a play, top-rate ice cream and baked goods, and wonderful cafes & shops? How about a ride or jog down the So. County bike path, a wooded frisbee golf course, pickle ball and tennis courts, or maybe some live music? This ideally located vacation home puts you right in the middle of all of these activities, and is just a short distance from fantastic beaches and the Block Island Ferry. Our antique home features beautiful period details and funky casual decor with a generally laid back, creative vibe. Plenty of off street parking, rear patio, front porch, and outdoor shower. Other nearby activities include the town library, bowling alley, tennis courts, skate park, Whalers Brewery, Pumphouse Music Works, indoor climbing gym, and more. Park your car and walk or bike to everything you need. Decompress and breath in the slower pace of small beach town life. This home is best for those looking for a simple, relaxing, unfussy, fun, rustic cottage-y vacation spot.

Sharon Cottage includes a large half bath off the kitchen/mud room with washer and dryer. Kitchen features gas range, dish washer, coffee maker, toaster and all your basic supplies. There is a sitting area open to the kitchen, a rear parlor with a flat screen TV, basic cable and an HDMI cord to connect to any of your streaming services. The front parlor has a beautiful bay window and dining table for sit down meals. Upstairs you will find a large full bath with lots of storage and tub-shower. The first of three bedrooms has two twin beds, second bedroom as an iron double bed, and third bedroom has a queen platform bed and ceiling fan. Bedrooms 1 & 2 have AC window units and there is a large central window unit downstairs along with plenty of fans to cool and circulate. The outdoor shower is great for rinsing off beach sand (a must for preservation of the plumbing) or for a shower under the stars. The fenced yard is roomy and flat for games and there is a shaded patio with table and chairs for outdoor dining, as well a fire pit. The beautiful So. County bike path runs directly behind the house, and there is a bike shop (Stedmans) from which you can rent bikes just one block from the house. Wi-fi is provided.

Great Vacation Spot!
We left Wakefield with so many happy memories from the bike path to the front porch to walking to Brickleys for ice cream or soco baking company. Charming, relaxed vacation spot with everything you need to unwind and take a break from it all!

Artsy Eclectic Vintage Home
Loved the artsy eclectic home with a beachy and hippie flair. Everything was as expected and Courtney was very responsive. Plenty of comfortable seating and places to hang out. The beds were comfortable. Awesome to have a full kitchen and a porch to relax on in the backyard is private. One thing I would mention for people who are challenged going up and down stairs. The staircase to the second floor is pretty steep, and the banister is low. Just something to be aware of. Wonderful place to stay for our vacation. The bike path can get you right to Narragansett town beach in 15 minutes and you can walk a couple blocks to shops and restaurants in Wakefield.

Wonderful Peaceful Stay
I was interested in a mini vacation with my daughter, SIL and my nine month old granddaughter; it was a last minute trip. I saw this property on VRBO’s website and submitted a request for the dates I was interested in staying at the property. The property was available for the dates I requested (for the following week of my inquiry) so I was more than overjoyed that we were able to have the mini vacation. The property was exactly as pictured on the website; eclectic, artsy, a fun place to relax after a day at the beach. It was just a minute walk to the Main Street where there were many places to go in and browse for unique items, antiques, jewelry, clothing, places to eat, etc. Scarborough Beach was just ten minutes away from this property. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time staying here and will definitely come back. The only thing we did not enjoy was the outside shower; there were several spiders in their webs in that shower so we passed on using it. We did not want to disturb the spiders.

I am an artist and my husband is a scientist. We have two adult daughters, and a dog, a cat, and a snake at our primary home in CA.

Why they chose this property

After spending my childhood summer vacations on Block Island, I've always dreamed of owning a house on the RI coast. My two sisters live in the area and the rest of my family remain in New England, while I ventured out to CA. I really wanted to have property close to my family and love old homes, like the one I grew up in. This beautiful little house needed some love, and I am thrilled to be its current caretaker. Wakefield is such a cool, vibrant village and the home's location is just perfect. I feel so fortunate to have found it and to have been able to make it mine. Its a dream come true.

What makes this property unique

The best thing about this house is its location. On a quiet street and yet in the middle of everything, you can walk or bike to everything you need. The So. County bike path is right behind the house and a beautiful route to take into town or to the beach. Inside, I love the character, period details and high ceilings - this house is a real charmer. Walk through the antique screen door onto the front porch to sit, read and watch the world go by, or head to the shady backyard for an outdoor shower, or to gather on the back patio for a bbq.
