About this property
The Old Quarry — Log Cabin In The Woods
The Old Quarry log cabin is set within its own woodland area, close to the stunning Exmoor National Park. A secluded, romantic, almost magical location and yet only half a mile to the small and delightful town of Wiveliscombe. Ideal retreat to relax and unwind within the peace of the natural woodland or use it as a base for a more active Somerset break - there's plenty to see and do in the area.
The Old Quarry enjoys an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, complete with a wood-burning stove and heating throughout, making it a wonderfully warm and cosy place to stay throughout the year. Set further back, towards the rear of the cabin are three attractive bedrooms, a single, a twin and a double, which share a family bathroom, with modern fixtures and fittings. All the rooms are on the same level (there is a ramp outside to facilitate wheelchair access).
Outside, the veranda is a perfect place to relax on balmy summer evenings or you could try out the hammock. For those slightly chillier evenings, gather around the fire pit to toast some marshmallows whilst you admire the giant redwood tree that towers over the rest of the wood or, gazing even further up, enjoy the brilliance of a starry night. For outside dining, there’s a BBQ area with a wooden picnic table. There is also a swing and grassy area for which we provide a selection of outdoor games.
PLEASE NOTE - discounts for seasonal week bookings or those that run Friday-Friday. Please enquire before booking.

About the host
Hosted by Paul Elliston
Hi. We're Paul and Rachel and we have one son. I work in Community Development and this has taken overseas, including 3.5 years living in Peru. We've been to many places and understand what it means to be a visitor staying somewhere new and, accordingly, try to provide our guests with the information they'll need to get the most out of their stay.
We're a small family-run business, preparing the property for your stay ourselves. We're always happy to talk about The Old Quarry, whether that's responding to queries before you come or answering any questions you may have whilst staying. We'd always prefer to hear from guests during their stay if there is anything that is disappointing, so that we have the chance to rectify it and allow you to enjoy your stay as much as possible.
Why they chose this property
Initially we weren't looking to buy a Holiday Let, but visited The Old Quarry on a whim and fell in love with it within about thirty seconds! We love the tranquility and the seclusion. You can feel the cares drop from your shoulders as you arrive - it's a great place to unwind. It's just outside the small and delightful town of Wiveliscombe, which has all you'd need for a self-catering break. Set in the foothills of the Brendon Hills, it's in the midst of great walking and cycling country, being ideally placed for Exmoor, the Quantocks, the Blackdowns and the north and south coasts are within easy reach too.
What makes this property unique
There aren't many places like The Old Quarry - a log cabin in its own private woodland. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the local wildlife or use as a base for a more active break.
