Gardeners Cottage has undergone a full refurbishment in 2022 and is now under new ownership. No expense has been spared throughout to make this an immaculate sanctuary for your time away. The refurbishment also includes the addition of a new boiler to provide plenty of heating and hot water for the chillier times of year.
The cottage itself has a lovely sitting area with a great flat screen TV for those cosy nights in. Leading off the lounge there is a great kitchen which is well equipped for your stay. It has a lovely dining table by the french windows, which lead out to a small patio where you can enjoy early morning coffee or pre dinner drinks, or just to sit and enjoy the peace!
There is also a downstairs cloakroom next to the stairs which lead to the first floor. Here there are two lovely double bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath and shower over the bath. Both are lovely rooms with comfortable double beds, great for a comfortable nights sleep.
Set within the stunning grounds of the Saltmoore Estate with some fantastic walks within the grounds and Sandsend beach is just a 15 minute walk away this is a great base to enjoy the lovely East Coast.
**Please note that although the cottages are within the grounds of Saltmoore, they are completely separate from the hotel**

An absolute 5-star stay at Gardeners Cottage. Brilliant location in Sandsend, lovely interiors, and a great atmosphere for a weekend break. Highly recommended for anyone looking to switch off and enjoy the North Yorkshire coast at its best. The Saltmoore estate's recent improvements are also fantastic & well worth the very short stroll to enjoy the Bar & restaurants.

A great cottage for two couples
Gardener’s cottage proved to be a perfect place to stay for walking on the North Yorks coast. It’s well-equipped, cosy and comfortable. Two parking spaces is an absolute bonus in this area. Whitby is a great place to visit - especially the Abbey and Whitby brewery taproom! Sandsend is great for eating places - Estbeck House, the Fish Cottage and the Hart Inn all proved excellent in their food choices and quality. Highly recommend this cottage.

Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings
Gardeners cottage is a lovely cottage inside and out. Having Saltmoore grounds to walk in was perfect. The sea was a pleasant stroll down the road. Used the Saltmoore restaurant once, a part of it was dog friendly which was good, food ok but very pricey.

We had a lovely stay
We booked a last minute stay for our wedding anniversary as we love this part of the coast. We'd stayed at the hotel previously but now we have a little one travelling with us these cottages were the perfect alternative. Lovely decor, the beds were so comfy and nice to have fluffy towels.
We thought the sofa could do with replacing and a few more items in the kitchen would be handy (casserole dishes/oven proof ceramic). Some items in the kitchen needed rewashing from previous guests (lipstick on glasses etc) so maybe worth checking as part of the housekeeping process or asking everyone to use the dishwasher instead.
Overall a lovely stay and we'll definitely keep the property in mind if we visit Sandsend again.

Review
Great cottage. Loved it. Would definitely book again. :-)
Property is lovely and spotless. It was our third stay at it. It is great and so quiet. The tv tho is so complicated and WiFi appalling. If u take kids or want an afternoon in front of tv or need to do some work you may have to think again. The other times it’s not been this bad, not sure if provider has been changed. Above the shower room the ceiling is literally peeling and falling off. Needs attention!
Stayed at Gardeners Cottage for a week with family and two dogs. Lovely property. Spacious, very clean and well maintained. Was really a home from home. Although there is a washer/dryer in the property, the addition of a clothes horse would be ideal and also a pair of oven gloves.
Hotel was about to open at the end of the week so lots of construction workers nearby but was kept informed if it was to be disruptive to our stay.
Had a great week out and about walking with the dogs and some wonderful meals, in Sandsend, would recommend Esbek House and also Sneaton Castle in Whitby.
Would definitely rebook.

Winter break
Had a lovely few days in Gardeners Cottage . Stayed here before & in Jasmine Cottage.
Both cottages are very well presented, clean & comfortable. The seating in the lounge could be better so 4 people can view the TV more comfortably.
The TV was a bit confusing to get going & viewing is through the Apps. If was fine once we mastered the remote controls.
Now the hotel refurbished s almost complete it was much better but some of the walks need a bit of a spruce up ( signposting & the bridge on the lake walk )
Overall we had a great time & wonderful weather. We will definitely be back & highly recommend.
I did notice that 2 night breaks are not always available, that’s a shame.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, communication
Didn’t like the hole in selling that was taped over to stop wasps coming out and could not sleep in there with the noise of them all night granted that some one come out to spray them but didn’t stop them and thay was coming out the extra fan in kitchen when was put one one 2 separate days and I was in aware I was renting a property on a bill ding site and the noise for constant all day was not very relaxing As that is why we want to go away to relax and unwind

Lovely cottage, construction work.spoilt views
Loved the cottage, a few cobwebs, shower head could do with a clean. Loved the welcome hamper. This was an alternative cottage offered due to the original one Discovery Cottage being xancelled . Recycling bins were overflowing and the lovely views were spoilt due to ongoing construction work ( diggers, rubble, old mattresses etc) . Would have expected to have been notified about the work and maybe offered a discount at least. Also poor lighting outside at night time was a bit of a hazard. Used our phones. Would not recommend until work around the Hall has been.completed. Would then be happy to revisit.

A lovely cottage
Cleanliness - Overall excellent. Reason for 4 - previous occupants clothes left in wardrobe drawer (has happened on a previous stay too! Room with bath has bacteria under bath tap as black from water/soap build up causing the bacteria build up. Needs a bit of mildew remover. Love The new flooring in the bathroom and all the new decor. Very beautiful, well done!
Customer service - I did ask if we might get a bit of a discount as we've been a few times. Was told no. Even 5% would be lovely as repeat visitors. Just think it's good customer relations personally.
Comfort - Very comfortable for 3! I sat in the chair by the window as had guests come to visit. Would have preferred a softer seat.
Condition - Excellent.
Location. Great, but now building work going on a bit messy.
Value for money. Good overall as it warrants a higher price tag as it's a very lovely cottage, but as I said above, repeat business maybe get a discount or offers when not in use or when out of season perhaps?
What a beautiful cottage! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. hopefully back soon

New Year break
We had a 3 night stay for New Year. We liked the position of the cottage but we were disappointed with the facilities. We couldn’t get the TV’s in the bedrooms to work. A hairdryer in 1 bedroom didn’t work. And on New Year’s Eve we didn’t have any hot water. We turned on a switch we believed would be the immersion heater and contacted emergency support. We had cold showers. The next morning the water was hot but the boiler made a loud noise when we turned the thermostat down.
We feel the property lacks sufficient crockery for 4 people to make a meal. The cafetière was for 1 person but there is a coffee machine with some pods provided. The hamper provided was a nice touch.
The towel rail in the second bathroom worked intermittently.
The TV in the lounge is difficult to operate so we used our computer
Cosy property with issues that could and should be fixed
Very cosy and comfortable property.
Stale smell on entry as if it had not been occupied for a while needed all windows open.
Bathroom floor tiles cracked and need replacing.
Given the price of this property you would expect a half decent smart TV rather than one with an apologetic note saying the remote doesn’t really work

Fabulous place near the sea but no extras provided in the cottage
We have stayed at the Raithwaite cottages 3 times this year and love the position they are in near beautiful Sandsend beach but our last stay there on 18th August 2021 there was no welcome pack at all and no toiletries which although this maybe due to covid restrictions we were given earlier in the year and so were disappointed when there was nothing at all.
