About this property

Downtown Beaufort- beautifully renovated chapel on edge of Historic District!

Step inside our beautifully renovated mid-century church, now transformed into a unique vacation retreat. The Chapel on Waight celebrates everything we love about Beaufort—laid back yet sophisticated, central yet tranquil. High ceilings, original pebbled glass windows, and an open-concept design flood the space with natural light, creating an airy, inviting atmosphere.
The house is a very spacious 2-bedroom rental, thoughtfully laid out across 1,600 square feet. Each room offers comfortable plush furnishings, unique architectural details from its chapel origins, and modern conveniences such as high-speed Wi-Fi and a smart TV. The open floor plan seamlessly connects the kitchen, dining, and living areas, making it easy to gather with family and friends, while private nooks and outdoor patios offer quiet escapes for relaxation. Convenience is paramount: the Chapel is just a short 1-mile walk to Beaufort’s historic center and downtown waterfront park, putting you within easy reach of charming cafes, boutique shops, bars and restaurants and scenic riverside strolls. Whether you’re gathering with loved ones or seeking a quiet getaway, our rental offers the comfort, character, and location to make your Beaufort stay truly memorable.
The main area consists of our kitchen, dining area, and living room. This open floor plan is perfect for gathering with family and friends. Whether you’re cooking, dining, watching TV, or simply relaxing, the space invites connection while still feeling spacious. The living area is furnished with plush seating and a 42" LG Smart TV, perfect for movie nights or catching up on your favorite shows. High-speed internet ensures you can stream your subscription channels or tune into most basic networks with ease. Large windows welcome natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the day.
Guests will find a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and countertops, a coffee and tea bar, a wide range of essential cookware, utensils, dishwasher, a toaster, blender, and microwave... everything you need to prepare meals at home. The dining area easily accommodates up to six guests. Nearby, the counter-level bar offers two sleek stools, making it a cozy spot for morning coffee or casual meals. We’ve designed every corner of the Chapel to fuse comfort with character. Step outside onto the screened porch—a tranquil spot for morning coffee or winding down in the evening, cooled by gentle breezes and shaded from the sun. The porch connects seamlessly to both bedrooms, making it an ideal retreat for conversation or quiet reading.
The front yard is spacious and includes graveled off-street parking that can accommodate multiple vehicles. We can also accommodate a boat and trailer. Please let us know if you plan to bring one.
Our backyard offers a second private oasis, perfect for grilling, dining al fresco, or relaxing under the stars. String lights illuminate the evenings, setting the scene for memorable gatherings with family and friends.
Step into restful luxury in our thoughtfully designed bedrooms, where every detail has been refreshed for your comfort. The king suite, newly updated with fresh paint and gleaming new floors completed in July 2025, offers a spacious retreat that blends art and tranquility. Original artwork, inspired by the lush flora of the Lowcountry, adorns the walls, creating a serene and sophisticated atmosphere. Drift into deep sleep on a brand-new Leesa Hybrid Sapira Mattress—purchased in August 2025 and consistently ranked #1 by The New York Times and Better Homes and Gardens—dressed in crisp, 100% cotton linens and duvets. The suite also provides a en-suite bathroom and opens directly onto the screened porch, an inviting spot for morning coffee or a quiet evening with a book.
The queen bedroom is equally inviting, featuring high-quality linens and a cozy semi-private sleeping nook with a single bed, separated by a curtain. This versatile space is ideal for families or groups, offering both privacy and intimacy for an additional guest or child. Like the king suite, the queen room includes an en-suite bathroom and direct access to the screened porch—perfect for enjoying Beaufort’s gentle breezes at any time of day.
For extra flexibility, the living room’s plush sofa can be transformed into a single bed; fresh linens are conveniently provided in the cabinet by the TV. The laundry room is located adjacent to the master bathroom. A washer, dryer, laundry supplies, iron, and ironing board are available for guest use.
The Chapel offers a tranquil sanctuary nestled on a tree-lined street in a quiet residential neighborhood, ensuring guests enjoy both serenity and privacy throughout their stay. Step outside and stroll or pedal one of our house bikes from The Chapel into the heart of town, where you’ll pass by grand antebellum mansions gracing the picturesque waterfront of Bay Street. For a change of pace, set out just four blocks in the opposite direction from The Chapel and discover the enchanting Spanish Moss Trail—a rails to trails project that winds through 17 miles of low country scenery - perfect for leisurely walks, invigorating runs, or scenic bike rides beneath the canopy of live oaks. This unique blend of peaceful seclusion and easy access to Beaufort’s vibrant attractions makes The Chapel an ideal retreat for guests seeking comfort and character.
An easy 6-mile drive straight down Ribaut Road brings you directly to the gates of Parris Island—perfect for those attending a Marine Graduation. Our rental is just 17 miles from the beautiful Hunting Island State Park, and we make your beach day hassle-free by providing a complimentary park pass, along with beach chairs, towels, body boards, toys, and an umbrella. Planning to explore further? A scenic one-hour drive south will take you to the heart of downtown Savannah, while heading north for an hour and a half puts you in the vibrant city of Charleston. My family and I loved the chapel house. Location was convenient to pretty much everywhere we went. Jim and Susanna were great hosts. We go to Beaufort every year right before school starts. Would definitely stay at this property again.

Lovely and very well appointed

We just enjoyed our first stay in Beaufort and absolutely loved it. This terrific house was beautifully decorated, very well appointed, clean, comfortable, close to downtown, activities in the Historic District. The owners were very helpful in introducing the house and to all the town has to offer. We especially liked the owners restaurant recommendations. Can't recommend it enough!

Great location, unique home and very gracious host.

My husband and I had a great time during our stay. Wish the weather could have been better but what can you expect just before the New Year. The home is so charming and loved the touches of a nice snack basket and some drinks in the refrigerator. Super convenient location and the bikes and Hunting Island park passes are such a nice bonus for guests staying in the home. We have just decided to buy a second home in Beaufort but loved our stay.

Beautiful Beaufort by the Sea

As previous residents of Beaufort, we were very familiar with the area. We were looking for a pet friendly place near downtown as our purpose was to go to Water Festival events and spend time with friends. This VRBO met those requirements. Owner had many amenities in the VRBO that other places did not and was open to suggestions.

Wonderful stay in Beaufort!

We absolutely loved staying at the Chapel on Waight. The West End neighborhood ended up being our favorite in Beaufort. Quiet and residential but in walking distance to downtown and the Spanish Moss Trail. Perfect location! We also loved the Chapel which was very comfortable for my husband and I and our small dog. We worked remotely and the wifi was strong during our entire 2 week stay. We would definitely stay at The Chapel again! Thank you!

Can't say enough good things!

We loved this property! If we return to Beaufort, we would love to reserve it for another stay. The house is adorable and well-appointed. The hosts are very easy to work with and responded to all communications in a timely fashion. Very pet friendly with pet supplies and a fenced in area. It was great for the three of us that stayed and also to host other members of our family for dinner who were staying at another property. Very comfortable and perfect for us and our sweet puppy!

Sporting Clay match & Port Royal oyster roast getaway

The home was well appointed and the beds extremely comfortable. The owners have a unique and interesting background which is well represented in several pieces of framed art and a furniture piece; that’s all I’ve got to say about that. We thoroughly enjoyed walking along the elevated boardwalk through the Port Royal Cyprus Wetlands bird rookery. Our drive through Hunting Island seaside State Park was spectacular given the diverse subtropical vegetation. Providing an annual entrance pass for guests use was an unexpected but greatly appreciated gesture. We lodged at this property primarily due to its proximity to Bluefield Shooting Club in Jacksonboro Co. However its proximity to Beaufort, St. Helena Island and Port Royal permitted us to enjoy the area’s beauty and take in much over a short period of time.

Charming Beaufort Retreat

We had a fabulous time in Beaufort and surrounding locations. The Chapel on Waight” was a gem of a retreat….fully stocked with all the necessities and more! It was perfect for me, my hubby, our daughter and our furry family member. Great location. Only a few blocks from beautiful downtown Beaufort (great shopping), a short drive to awesome sea isles/beaches (Hunting Island is a paradise) and we were even able to take some nice day trips to Charleston, Savannah, Hilton Head and more! Susanna and Jim were excellent and gracious hosts. They answered all questions and addressed any issues/needs promptly and without any disruption. From the homey decor, to the open, spacious layout to the festive-lit patio and screened porch….this house provided it all. Can’t say enough good things! We would absolutely return to this charming “chapel” house and highly recommend it to anyone seeking the perfect Beaufort area retreat.

Perfect...

This was not our first trip to Parris Island. It was definitely the most comfortable though. We've stayed at some pretty fancy resorts, & some swanky hotels over the years. Have even stayed in this area at other VRBO properties. Have never been as satisfied with a stay....ever. Clean, spacious, & super comfortable. Usually rentals have cheap beds. Oh no, these beds were very comfortable. The linens were very nice, & again, very comfortable. We are so used to cheap rough towels in rentals. Not here... Super plush, high dollar towels again, very comfortable. Comfort is 90% of it to us & this place knocked it out of the park. Having satisfied us there, I can say, I've never stayed at a place where everything was as thought out, & as much effort put into making sure guests were comfortable, & had anything/everything they needed. From drinks in the fridge, to plenty of coffee, condiments, snacks, wifi, etc. The washing machine was a nice added benefit as well. Great place, well worth the price. Have stayed at plenty of places for more money, that don't hold a candle to this place. Trying to come up with a negative.... I just can't think of one. All the i's were dotted, & t's crossed. If we ever come back to this area, we'll stay here again.

The best vacation rental I've stayed in. Not the most modern but felt the most like home. Sent a handbook about the property and location and communicated with us BEFORE we arrived. Literally, everything offered was as described, labeled and explained. Forget shaving cream? Got it! Everyone provides shampoo, but they had q-tips, cotton balls, makeup towels. Need a snack upon arrival before going to the store, provided. Centrally located, comfy beds and towels. Have a problem? They worked with us: my husband got sick and had to be hospitalized. Late check out? Easy with no demand for extra payment. Owners said, "We'll work with you." If looking for small lodging in Beaufort for a reasonable price, book it!

Honeymoon at the Chapel on Waight.

The owners were great with communication, offered suggestions for the area, & the home & the little touches in it, were more than accommodating. I’m a sucker for attention to detail & they nailed it. The location is also centrally located between Charleston, Hilton Head, & Savannah.. allowing us to make day trips during the week, but we fell in love with the immediate area of Beaufort/Port Royal/Lady’s Island. We would definitely recommend visiting their property.. you won’t be disappointed, but you just have to see it for yourself!
