Town: Whitby rests at the mouth of the River Esk in North Yorkshire, just outside of the North York Moors National park. From here, you are well placed to explore the rugged moorland and rolling countryside of the Moors, as well as the Blue Flag awarded sandy beaches along the coast. Whitby boasts many attraction as well as winding streets and hidden alleys, where you can find a wide selection of eateries and shops scattered amongst them. Head to the picturesque harbour and lighthouse to watch the sun set, or get involved in some whale watching or a coastal cruise. Climb the famous 199 steps to the Whitby Abbey to immerse yourself with history, or visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum presenting historical and ethnographic exhibition about Cook himself.
