Overall, we did not enjoy our stay at Piazza San Marco. We considered checking out after one night.
The worst accommodation we had on a 1 month trip.
Pros: 2 comfortable twin beds, decent location as Venice is very walkable from anywhere.
Cons:
- We booked through Expedia, which then booked through VRBO, which then stated we were being hosted by HostMate, and we were then contacted by another company that was actually the property managers (3rd or 4th party?!) . We received 6-8 emails from different groups after booking this.
- Expedia stated nothing about a late check in fee. We arrived after 8pm and then the 4th party group said it was their company policy that late check in fees applied, so we owed them 40 Euro. We refused to pay this as it was not stated at the time of booking, or we would have applied the 40 Euro to stay elsewhere not this awful place.
- There were 3 steep flights of stairs with no working lights up to the old and musty apartment.
- There were many mosquitos in the apartment. There were also MANY dead mosquitoes squashed on the walls from others that were not clean off. We did our best to swat them when we could, but they continually woke us up in the night when they buzzed by our ears. We left with many bites on our arms and faces.
- The bathroom is TERRIBLE. You cannot shower here. The whole bathroom acts as the shower and soaks everything in the room, including the toilet. TERRIBLE BATHROOM.
