About this property

Luxury Holiday Cottages Set in Beautiful Devon Scenery

Cider Barn is a sympathetically converted 17th Century stone barn which sleeps 5 in two bedrooms. It is furnished to a high standard. It has a fully-equipped kitchen with ceramic hob and fan oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. It has central heating, television and wifi broadband. All linen and bedding is provided.

Our four-star traditional barn conversion & two Scandinavian lodges are situated in 17 acres of quiet, unspoilt countryside with picturesque lake where our visitors are free to roam and enjoy a gentler pace of life. There is a feeling of seclusion, yet the cottages are central for all kinds of activities in Devon and Somerset. Above the cottages is “Chimney Down”, a beautiful stretch of open common land, ideal for dog walking, with spectacular panoramic views across Exmoor to the north and Dartmoor to the west.

Very good overall, didn’t like how it was set deep into single traffic lanes.
The property was very good value for the money we paid.

Idyllic setting for a peaceful stay
We stayed in the Old Cider Barn. There were 3 of us, although it could sleep 5. It's very spacious for a two bedroom place with everything you need and the kitchen was well equipped with crockery and cutlery etc. It was very clean and the location is idyllic and extremely peaceful as it's set deep in the countryside. We really enjoyed having a bit of fun on the tennis court there and played some table tennis. We saw plenty of wildlife watched rabbits, squirrels and lots of birds when just sitting at the table eating. Being between the coasts we found it a good starting point for north and south and did activities on both from kayaking to a seal safari and also took a trip on the Somerset Steam Railway. There is fabulous scenery in the area and the owners have left a selection of information guides on a variety of things to do locally. An enjoyable holiday, the hosts were very helpful and we felt comfortable and enjoyed the space, peace and quiet as well as the facilities there. Excellent value for money and I would be happy to return if I were going to the same area in the future.

Staycation
Great place nicely off the beaten track. We needed somewhere for some peace and quiet & this place was perfect. Easy access to M5 & A361 ( both 15mins) meaning just 1hr trips to North & South Devon coasts. We stayed in the Cider Barn, 1 of 3 properties on site. It was homely with character and very nice. Beware of the narrow lanes in the area but take it steady and there's no problem. Great value for money, would recommend and happily stay here again. Closest shops are 15mins in opposite directions, closest pub, The Staplecross Inn is less than 1/2 mile, great food & atmosphere.

Spacious property in beautiful area.
The property was spacious, clean and well equipped surrounded by beautiful countryside and an array of birds. My teenage boys made full use of the table tennis, darts and tennis court too which made a nice addition to the properties on this site.

Fabulous Countryside Destination
The Cider Barn is a very well equipped cottage in a beautiful countryside location, but is very near to the lovely towns of Honiton and Tiverton. We utilised the games room and enjoyed watching the wildlife from inside the cottage. Super short break

About the host

Hosted by Tod Bainbridge

Host profile image
Tod and Heather Bainbridge have lived here for over thirty years and have been running Quarry Hockford Cottages for ten years.

We started with the Cider Barn and added Orchard Lodge eight years ago and Lakeside this year (2014).

Why they chose this property

When our children were young the property and the area provided good riding and plenty of room for the horses. Now we just enjoy the peace and tranquillity and the feeling of remoteness while still having good access and easy communications.

What makes this property unique

Rural seclusion and tranquility . Stunning Exmoor National Park a few minutes away. Good communication links.
