About Steve and Susie Bryson
Steve and I lived in Colorado for 10 years and had our first child, Sharly. She was 3 months premature and weighed in at a whopping 1 pound!! When she turned one, she weighed almost 10 pounds. Her doctor said that she would grow if we moved her to a warmer climate.. that it was difficult for her to maintain a 98.6 degree body temperature without burning so many calories. So, we moved to Hawaii.. with $500 in the bank and our little daughter. That was in December, 1979. And here we are 35 years later. Sharly has since married, given birth to our grandaughters, Kaylee and Riley, and has moved back to Colorado. We had our son, Zak after moving to Hawaii. He married his high school sweetheart, Amber, and they have 2 sons. And, he just began working for us full time! There's more to the story, so come and stay with us to hear the rest. We love our guests and have many repeat visitors to our lovely rentals.

Why Steve and Susie Bryson chose Kailua
We bought our house before it became a vacation rental. We owned a small travel agency and people were always asking if there was anywhere to stay other than Waikiki. So we decided to rent out some rooms in our home to accommodate our clients and to make a little extra money. There were no hotels in our town and the beach was just gorgeous. Little did we know that Kailua would become such a B&B mecca.
What makes this House unique
You will love the hospitality and service we provide our guests. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and the property is like walking into Shangri La. Steve's gardens are breathtaking and the pool is beautiful.

Kailua Beach Retreat
Although property itself was sufficient for our family of 6, parking was not convenient. We were told to park across the street at the beach, but on weekends there was no parking available and we had to walk a way with all our stuff. Also, although they advertise 2 bathrooms, one is located downstairs which was not convenient for us old folks. However, it was convenient to have it near the pool - not having to go back upstairs. The pool was lovely, the kitchen well stocked, and air conditioners in each room was great.
Aloha and thank you for taking the time to review our place. We do hope you enjoyed your stay. I wanted to write a response so future guests know that we do offer onsite parking for one car. If you do have two cars we will make every effort to accommodate you but we may ask you to park your second car on the street if there is not room. Thank you again and we would love to have you stay with in the future. Mahalo
Don't Want to Leave
Awesome. Place was awesome and hosts were awesome.
The place itself had everything we needed: beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, sand toys, bikes, kitchen stuff to cook meals, etc. The ice maker was incredible. We could load up our cooler everyday without having to buy the ice! If anything wasn't completely perfect, I would say the swimming pool was a bit too cold for my skin. However, it didn't matter with the ocean a skip away and spending time there everyday. We also went to the YMCA a few times to lift weights and swim in their salt water pool. (We have a nationwide membership.) And we also walked and swam in the nearby 50 meter community pool. Walking to downtown was easy (didn't need a car) as well.
The hosts were super hospitable and full of aloha. They were always there to help, ask how we were, give suggestions on things to do, and open up about stories in their own lives. I had sweet conversations each with Zack, Steve and Susie. They have the vibe of being an extension of family. We will stay here again 100% when we come back to Oahu down the future road. However, our next visit to the islands will be Kona, so it could take another few years for us to be able to see Zack, Steve and Susie again. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Please remember us because we will see you again :)

Kailua vacation awesomeness
We had a great stay in the Kukui house. Very comfortable rooms and relaxing setting. Very quiet yet right across the street from an amazing beach/park and easy walking distance to restaurants and some shopping. Windward Oahu has some of the best beaches anywhere, lots of the others within easy driving distance. Place has excellent stuff included- beach chairs, coolers, toys, bikes, etc. Many thanks to Zak and Steve and Susie- they are all super friendly and great help with local advice.
Great spot. 5 minutes to Beach.
Very nice spot. Owners were very responsive. 5 minute walk to the beach. A surprise was the very nice and serene lanai. Enjoyed coffee there each morning. Would definitely stay there again
Great warm & welcoming spot close to beach
We loved Kailua and this little apartment was the perfect jumping off place to enjoy the beach and everything else the town had to offer. The hosts live on site nearby and were very friendly and welcoming. Planning another stay here next year!
Small but good amenities
We had a fun stay in the Kukui house over Thanksgiving. The house has great amenities- ac in every room, the pool, plenty of dishes, towels, beach toys, etc. A couple of things could be improved, though- there were a lot of bugs, especially ants. I think that probably had to do with all of the vegetation around (which was so beautiful), but even after I let the owners know about it, it didn't get better. It would also be great if they could add some towel hooks or hanging rods, because there isn't really any place to hang wet towels, swimsuits, etc. Those were pretty minor inconveniences, though, and overall we had a really great time with the pool, the close proximity to the beach and staying in Kailua.
