About this property

Pet Friendly 2 BR + Loft , Wifi , Sleeps 8

Welcome to cabin.BLS!
Are you looking for a comfortable place where you and your family/friends can relax and not worry about messing up picture perfect rooms? This might be the place for you.
This cabin has been in our family since it was built in the late 70’s. We’ve replaced the roof, but otherwise it’s exactly as built – and we are making it available to you in all it’s midcentury “early-garage-sale-chic” splendor. This is a rustic cabin located in the Stanislaus National Forest - there are bears, foxes, deer, squirrel, skunk, coyotes, bobcats just outside the door. Please expect the charm of a late 70's family-built cabin.
There’s a cassette deck, comfy couches and easy chairs, a deck with bbq and an outside dining table with umbrella and chairs. It’s the kind of cabin where family furniture rotates out of our homes and into the cabin.
Not only can this cabin sleep 8 people, but the table seats 12. More if you want to squish. You won’t have to serve dinner in shifts or on paper plates or drink wine out of plastic cups. We have enough cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses and wine glasses to seat and serve your whole crowd. Plus, the plates match (most of them anyway!), and the dishwasher is big.
Our family loves to cook so the kitchen is well outfitted – blenders, 60’s era waffle maker, microwave, coffee maker (one carafe for octane, the other for decaf), ice cream maker, etc. The rule is that anything edible left in the kitchen is yours to eat, just please take anything perishable with you when you leave.
Is it important to you that the towels match in your vacation rental? Well, none of ours do. But they’re all cotton.
We may be old school, but some of us like to move up here for working vacations, so we recognize the importance of 70 Mbps internet, steady wifi and the value of a good baseball/soccer/football game on Comcast. There’s a 55in Ultra High Definition SmartTV in the living room (Netflix, anyone?) and a PS2 so you can play games or watch DVDs. Upstairs in the loft there’s a 32 in SmartTV with a GameCube and other vintage game systems.
In the wintertime, the wood burning stove keeps things warm as well as some portable space heaters.
Two floors:

Room 2: 1 Queen sized bed and closet

Upstairs Loft:
3 Queen beds, 2 twin beds (no closet)
Full bathroom (shower over bathtub)
PLEASE NOTE: The front door to the cabin is up a flight of stairs. Once inside, there is another set of stairs up to the loft and upstairs bathroom.

It was good! Would have liked all the spider webs removed! Deck was not used because of the spiders.

The inside was charming and kitchen well equipped. Thank goodness for the fans because it was hot! This is a dog friendly cabin but the Lake doesn’t allow dogs?! That’s sucked. We drove to Lake Alpine everyday to enjoy the lake with our dogs!

Sweet Family Home with a Few Drawbacks

Overall we had a good stay in this mountain home. It is situated among the trees in a mountain residential community. We ended up not using the recreation pass because it was a busy Fourth of July weekend, but it was nice to have that as a feature of this home. Our only disappointments included the house not being as clean as we would have hoped upon arrival. There were nails sticking out of the carpeting going up the stairs and my son cut his heel on one of them. Also, the motion sensor light I was way too sensitive and stayed on for most evenings, lighting up the loft where we slept. The lighting in the living room was quite dark, with just a few lamps, one of which wasn’t working. There were many non-functioning lamps throughout the house. We love how well stocked in the kitchen was because our family loves to cook. We love being so close to big trees Park and several lakes. We also loved the backyard patio where we had many meals and lied on the futon out there to see the stars.

Family friendly cabin with space for everyone!

Cabin was perfect for our large family no frills family the weekend. Property was very clean on arrival. Bed and bedding seemed very new and were quite comfortable. Kitchen actually had everything we needed to cook and feed a large party. Next time the family gathers in Arnold, we will stay here again!

The Process of Renting with Jane is Amazing!

I have to say that renting this cabin was an awesome process. Jane was in constant contact with me and if something was wrong or I simply needed an answer to a question, she was a few minutes within reach. Jane was very accommodating to our situation. This is the reason I gave her 4 out of 5 stars. I couldn't give them 5 stars because, I will be honest, the cabin was very dirty. The bathrooms have brown stains on the walls. I didn't mind that the cabin was outdated, I thought it gave it a very "homy" quality. Plus, the children were very entertained with the tv and gaming consoles. But you can clearly see that the cabin isn't thoroughly. After a few hours of walking barefoot in the living room and loft, the kids' feet seemed to have walked on soot. I think that is cabin has so much potential and it fit all of my family comfortably, it's small but it has so many beds. Just be warned that the lake is pretty far as well as the pool. The pool is expensive to use at $15, but we were in the lake the majority of the time, they charge $5 per person. If you just want to chill with family and have a relaxing time, this cabin is for you!

Really nice cabin

I would stay there again for sure. Only thing I would improve is the plumbing upstairs because the water wouldn’t drain very well and the beds were a little uncomfortable. Loved the living room and how at home we all felt. Thank you for your support before, during , and after our trip. Loved how you included instructions for us to check in and out.

A great place in a beautiful setting with loads of features

Our group of six women has been getting together once a month for more than 10 years - to enjoy our friendship, families, food, and wine. This month we decided to branch out and went wine tasting in nearby Murphy's. Luckily, we found this family cabin! It was so welcoming and so comfortable, with it's well-stocked kitchen equipment, lots of beds, and a setting like something out of a fairy tale. The grounds in this community are lovely. Jane was extremely accommodating and helpful with our stay. We would definitely do this again! Thank you, Jane!

Lovely weekend stay

We had a great, relaxing weekend at the cabin! Not too far from Blue Lake Springs, fly in acres or downtown Arnold. Great little spot if you want a quiet, relaxing time in the woods.

About the host

Three quick things about me: I'm a mom to three (now adult) sons, I grew up in Central and South America and I collect etiquette books.

Our extended family lives in the greater San Francisco Bay Area and we all love to converge for short summer and winter vacations at our cabin in the mountains. But when we're not using it you can make yourself at home!

Why they chose this property

The Blue Lake Springs subdivision is known for its stellar amenities (2 lakes, pool, tennis, etc) -- but of course our parents didn't know how popular it would become when they purchased their lot in the 70's. They loved it because they could load the kids in the back of the station wagon and be at the cabin within 3 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since then, the cabin has been the place we all go when we need a break or a vacation or when the kids need a place to run wild. We ski/snowboard at Bear Valley, go sledding in Cottage Springs, fish in White Pines lake, hike in Big Trees, watch our kids build forts among the trees, go wine tasking in Murphy's, and invite friends and family for drinks out on the deck.

The cabin is our happy place and we hope it will be yours as well.
