Esmor Cottage is a delightful hidden gem of a stay in the picturesque town of Caerwys, ideally located just inland from the stunning North Wales coastline and less than 30 minutes from the beautiful historic city of Chester, famed for its stunning cathedral, excellent shopping, Roman history, and of course Chester Zoo.
The cottage has been renovated inside to a very high standard, and has wonderful character with a homely feel whilst being modern and beautifully styled. Thanks to underfloor heating throughout the entire ground floor, all the spaces are warm and welcoming. Entering through the lobby into the cosy lounge and through to the smart modern kitchen, where you will find everything you need for your stay, including full oven and grill with induction hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Whether you’re making your favourite holiday breakfast, or creating dinner for everyone to enjoy together, you will find beautiful kitchenware and a full complement of equipment and utensils.
Separate to the kitchen, there is a large dining area complete with solid oak table to comfortably seat six. This leads through to a beautiful light and airy garden room providing a fantastic social relaxing space, with comfortable chairs, and bi-folding doors opening completely out to the patio area outside. This is a great place for your morning coffee as you pore over maps and plan your adventures for the day.
The separate main living room has a cosy, traditional vibe with wooden floors, leather sofas, a gorgeous rustic coffee table and a glorious fireplace featuring a proper log burner, complete with basket of logs – perfect for curling up in the evening after a day of seeing the sights.
Upstairs, there are three luxuriously dressed bedrooms, two with king-size beds and one twin, all light and airy with ample storage space. The master has an en-suite shower room with a large walk-in shower enclosure, whilst the twin bedroom can be zip-linked into a super-king if desired. The main family bathroom is very smart and fully tiled, with a P-shaped bath with shower over, basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Outside, there is a BBQ provided for your use (so don’t forget your charcoal), and the garden is fully enclosed with a sunny aspect. There is roadside parking at the front of the cottage for one car, and any additional cars can be parked in the square just a short distance up the road.
Caerwys offers good facilities on the door-step, with pubs, cafes and convenience stores all within walking distance. Locally there is a multitude of things to choose from, so you will be spoilt for choice for where to go. Less than 30 mins by car up to the coast, there is an incredible selection of beaches, with Rhyl, Kinmel Bay, Llanddulas, Colwyn Bay, Rhos-on-Sea and Llandudno all offering a plethora of things to see and do. Chester is also only 30 mins away by car, and Snowdonia National Park is less than an hours drive away, boasting some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK, with stunning mountains, lakes, and hundreds of miles of trails to walk or hike.

We stayed here as a family for Christmas and it was comfortable, clean and spacious.
There was even a Christmas trees which made it feel festive. It had the most well stocked kitchen supplies of any air B n B we have ever stayed in. The info book was really useful. The local walks were beautiful. The only tricky aspect was the parking, so bring as few cars as you can. Parking is all parallel parking along the roads in the village.

Family visit
It was a lovely cottage and a good base for a family visit, my parents live 10 minutes away. We did have a problem with the heating downstairs which wasn’t resolved. We only stayed 2 nights and we’re out most of the time so not a huge issue but it was a particularly wet Welsh weekend and a little chilly!

This was perfect for our family weekend get together.
Plenty of space, kitchen well stocked. We made good use of the fire and our two dogs were very happy there. Secure garden. Parking wasn’t a problem. Make sure you bring what you need for showering and salt and pepper if required. There was a welcome pack which was much appreciated and a lovely Christmas tree which was a nice touch. Overall very happy and would return.

Esmor Cottage
The cottage was lovely and cosy and we especially appreciated the bright sitting area at the back. We enjoyed days out to locations nearby such as Dyserth waterfall and Prestatyn.
There was only one small log left for us at the bottom of a basket of kindling.
The bathrooms had no fan so got very steamy after a shower.
There were dog hairs on the floor.

Charming cottage in lovely countryside
Esmoor Cottage was extremely comfortable and well planned, with 2 spacious seating areas and a well-fitted kitchen. We particularly appreciated the light and afternoon sun in the rear sitting area and the cosiness of the front sitting room at night. Bathrooms were spacious with modern fixtures. The garden area was bigger than it appeared in the photos. Caerwys is a charming village with an interesting history and within easy reach of beautiful countryside and major sights.
There was only one, very minor niggle which was the small dishwasher size, given that the cottage accommodated 6 this was a very minor issue, however. The cottage was managed by an agency, Finest Retreats, so we did not meet the hosts. We contacted the agency twice, to request late checkout on both occasions, they promised to check if it was possible but failed to call back. They did, however, send a text at 7 am on departure day as a reminder that checkout was at 10 am, which rather rubbed salt into the wound!
