This beautifully appointed home has all of the amenities for your escape. Enjoy the hot tub just a few steps outside the master suite, separate bathrooms, satellite TV, and a fully stocked kitchen.

The home provides 2 gas fireplaces, one in the spacious master bedroom and one in the living room. Built with an open concept and expansive lake-facing windows, the entire home overlooks the water and mountains for an intimate experience with nature. This home was built with love; you’re sure to feel at home when you enter in.

This area is home to multitudes of recreational activity including hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, downhill skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Or, you may find yourself longing to stay in, relaxing and enjoying the magic of the Garden.

This home and property is so much more than a place to sleep. It’s a place to rest, rejuvenate, relax and reconnect with yourself or your partner. Our hope, as hosts, is that you will love and appreciate the Garden as much as we do.

Walk into total immersion to a fantastic Garden of Eagin. Construction of this wonderful place is all Paul’s remarkable imagination coupled with unique skills of a master wood worker. Enjoy the peace and solitude this wonderful place provides. Oh! Don’t forget to watch for our national bird who likes to come by!!!!

Totally relaxing getaway

The property afforded multiple ways of enjoying peaceful moments. Watching hummingbirds dart about in the mountainside "garden", soaking in the expansive lake-view from the back deck, or reading quietly beside the fireplace in the elegantly decorated sitting room, we found serenity in this wonderful location.

Amazing romantic getaway!!

We absolutely loved our time at “Garden of Eagon”!! It was even more stunning in person than what we saw online. We didn’t want to leave and hurriedly returned each day as our business in Sandpoint wrapped up to take in the views and relax. The house is very comfortable and nicely appointed, but we really just spent our time on the deck and hardly used the rest of the home! We are definitely planning to make a return trip in the future!

This has been one of our absolute favorite places my wife and I have ever stayed. It was by far the most accommodating and thoughtful vrbo. It has everything you could possibly need. Paul and Bethany truly thought of it all and were so friendly. We will be returning here in the future!

Perfect paradise in Hope Idaho

It was difficulty to leave and know you won't be able to see the same beautiful view from your home. This has been one of our absolute favorite places my husband and I have stayed at. The hosts, Paul and Bethany, made sure that you are not lacking anything and were very friendly. We are planning on returning sometime in the winter.

Unbelievable views and spectacular sunsets!

This place is as advertised and maybe better. Plenty of day trips to take, cruises on the lake, hikes to make, but be sure to be back by 5:00pm to enjoy the deck. From the deck you will see one of the best sunsets, as equal to West Coast beach sunsets plus mountains. The house has everything you need to prepare any meal, for us it was steaks one night and pasta and shrimp another. We will definitely be back!

Garden of Wow!

What a beautiful home that offers an incredible view! We were enamored with our ability to lay in bed and see the water and hills of the surrounding area. Having never been to Sandpoint/Hope, we were excited to have a cozy place to celebrate our anniversary and this rental lived up to the hype. Paul and Bethany were very communicative throughout the entire booking and rental process, helping ensure our stay was one to remember!

Best Trip Ever

Everything about this place is incredible. The location can’t be beat. Remote and peaceful, but close enough to where you need to be. The home is so well built and comfortable— we immediately felt at home and our vacation flew by. The views (no matter where you’re at in the house) are truly unbelievable. Bethany and Paul are so kind and really put the effort in to make everything easy. I asked for recommendations and Bethany provided many amazing ones! Snow tubing for $22 per person and a 4 hour day pass at Quinn’s Hot Springs (a beautiful two hour drive) for $18. I saw about 7-8 Bald Eagles and my favorite, a North American Pygmy Owl! We will def be back. Thank you so much Bethany & Paul!

Couldn’t have been anymore perfect!!

So glad that I stumbled across this house doing research for a good honeymoon location. My wife and I will forever remember this home and the trip we took to Northern Idaho. The home was well furnished and had everything we needed and then more. Waking up every morning to the view and wildlife was incredible and made it hard to leave the housers here day. We loved Schweitzer Mountain in Sand Point and everything they offered up there, we highly recommend the snowmobile touring! We enjoyed driving all the back roads looking for wildlife and taking in the scenery, I recommend getting out and seeing everything the surrounding areas have to offer. There is plenty to do and plenty of fantastic places to eat close by. The property owners were the best and made sure we settled in and knew where everything was. They made our stay feel as if it were our own home, my wife and I will always remember the Garden of Eagen and cherish the memories we made there!

Panoramic, Charming!

Has everything you need for a perfect vacation. Enjoyed the lake during the day with kayaking (rented from Annie's Orchard) and pontoon boating (East Hope Marina) then came back to the house for a dinner with the BEST view! Monarch Market has a nice selection of groceries. The coffee shack at Annie's Orchard has delicious broasted chicken. Just be sure to order before 3:00. Coffee in the morning next to the gas fireplace was a great way to start the day. The hot tub was so relaxing. The view is spectacular, but also sitting on the porch, watching hummingbirgs buzz around in the unique and beautiful yard was a treat. Loved sleeping with the shades up to let the bright moonlight on the lake shine in.. You won't be disappointed with this rental. The owners are very concerned that you have everything you need. All of these positive reviews are spot on. Don't even hesitate to book!

Magnificent Propery ...beyond Stunning!

From the instant you walk through the front door, it immediately hits your senses as to the grandeur and mesmerizing serenity awaiting your stay at the Garden of Eagen. Bethany & Paul have created a captivating setting that stimulates all that your senses encompass. Trust when I say 'the webpage photos cannot convey the impressiveness of this storybook property'. Yes, the views are breathtaking beyond words. But the real story has to do with the unequaled attention to every meticulous detail, which the Coulston's have created. Everything combined created an enchanting ambiance that made our stay so rewarding. Top Drawer ...First Class ...in every possible aspect. If you are thinking of visiting the area, you owe it to yourself to book this property NOW! My wife and I are already planning to visit again .....and again. It's that magnificent!!! Thank you Bethany and Paul.

Outstanding, Amazing, Wonderful

This is the best rental we have ever had; and we have rented quite a few properties. Everything was perfect. The house is immaculate. The bed is super comfy. The view is a million dollar view! The house is much larger than we expected. There is complete privacy in both the front yard and the lake view back yard. We prefer to cook our own meals and the kitchen is as good as they get, better than most people have in their own homes. The owners are so considerate to have the pantry stocked with everything you need except your fresh food, and canned or frozen if that is your style. Spices, condiments, coffee, tea, vinegar, oils, foil, plastic wrap and bags, dish and dishwasher soap. It was all there for us to use. The deck was spectacular with the hot tub (and spa robes), fire table and chairs. It is like an infinity deck. Relax and watch the sun set! We very much appreciated the check in walk around via the phone with Paul. He explained everything and how it all worked. Since there is a train in the area the owners even provided earplugs in case it would bother you. We did not need them. The 2 bathrooms really are spacious full bathrooms. All of the furniture was comfortable and in great condition. It is so beautiful that it is hard to leave. But the area is also full of spectacular natural beauty. We got outside every day to explore. There is a nice binder with suggestions of things to do and places to hike. We celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary and my 59th birthday here. We loved everything about it. It was our first time in Idaho. We also had our first visit to Montana for a hike and we made it to the Canadian border on the day we did 3 waterfalls hikes. Coming 'home' to The Garden of Eagan was a treat. We are from Wisconsin. Who knew the panhandle of Idaho was paradise? We do now. If you are considering renting this property don't hesitate. It is worth it. There is only one thing to keep in mind. Don't plan to do any laundry because there isn't a washer and dryer. We can't wait to return!

About the host

Hosted by Paul & Bethany Coulston

Host profile image
We are high school sweethearts from a small town in Alabama, college graduates from Auburn University and a married couple who fell in love with the mountains while on our honeymoon in Montana. That honeymoon trip inspired us to make the mountains our home and, when God opened the door, we took a leap of faith and moved across the country to follow our dreams. We currently live in Columbia Falls, MT with our black lab, Maggie, and a job as a home baker (Bethany) and a home builder (Paul). We prefer to spend our free time surrounded by nature, whether it be mountains or lakes, and love to take relaxing weekend trips to nearby towns. It was because of these interests that we discovered this property and visited as guests several years ago. From the moment we walked in the door, we were surrounded by the peaceful serenity that fills the home and immediately fell in love with it. Our hope is that you feel the same way, too.

Why they chose this property

Our discovering this property seems like a dream. Before buying the home in June 2017, we were simply guests of an incredible home that Jack and Jeanelle Shields shared with others. And what a blessing it was for us to be able to spend anniversaries and holidays in this spectacular place. They created a vacation experience that surpassed any other rental we had ever visited. And when the opportunity for us to purchase the home presented itself, we could not pass it up. Our goal is to continue the tradition of providing others with a unique, romantic escape to refresh and renew. This house deserves to be shared, and our hope is to to share it with you as it was shared with us.

What makes this property unique

This house cannot be simply described with words, or even pictures. You must experience it to fully understand it's beauty! The home is situated on a cliff overlooking Lake Pend Oreille and has floor to ceiling windows providing you an expansive view from nearly every room.
