Boat trips to the Farne Islands run from the nearby harbour, which are famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. Horse riding is available in North Sunderland, around a mile away. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is only 2 miles north with its wide expanse of golden, and often empty, sandy beaches, and where the tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island and the birth place of Christianity, can be viewed. A further 2 miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Visit the bird sanctuary at Budle Bay, where at low tide a vast expanse of mudflats is home to countless sea and land birds, making this a haven for birdwatchers.
The sweep of golden sands at Beadnell Bay is popular with watersport enthusiasts, just 2 miles south, and the elegant Georgian town of Berwick, which straddles the salmon-rich River Tweed, is 17 miles north. The market town of Alnwick, with its castle, offers many facilities a few miles inland. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction, with its restaurant in the largest tree house in Europe, and its grand cascade waterfall. Sand Castles makes an excellent base from which to explore this stunning heritage coastline, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beach 200 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

We enjoyed our week’s stay at Sand Castle. House is in a good position for walking to the beach and into the town. House was also clean, warm and comfortable and well equipped. Minor negatives, there was no welcome pack on arrival, no initial supply of logs for the wood burner, nor is there a hairdryer. However we would certainly book again if we returned to Seahouses.

Good spacious house, suited us.
Good spacious house, suited us. 4 adults 1 toddler and a dog. Good sized garden for latter. But disappointed with tv in lounge not being 'smart'. Crockery was past its best, many items were cracked. Felt items might break during washing. Kitchen knives were very blunt! Table mats well past best.No cushions or throws for chilly evenings. No games etc.Good equipment for baby, highchair, cot, stairgate.
