About this property
Spring Barn, Chipping Norton - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
Spring Barn is surrounded by beautiful countryside, tucked away at the end of a lane which winds its way through the fields. Hidden within its thick stone walls, where hay was once stored, and sheep took shelter from the weather, you'll now find a modern, rural escape offering every creature comfort. The symmetry of this solid stone barn is both welcoming and pleasing to the eye.
Huge glass doors reveal an open-plan living space with stone flooring and a part-vaulted ceiling, whilst full-height doors on the opposite wall offer a glimpse of the view beyond, as well as access to the patio and garden. The suspended fireplace in the corner is a discreetly modern and contemporary addition to the living room. There's a sleek and stylish kitchen and dining area which makes eating a pleasure, and there's also a handy ground-floor cloakroom. Upstairs, a glass balustrade enhances the sense of light and space and leads to two comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom.
Surrounding the barn, there's a large, private garden and a patio where you can enjoy outside dining, morning coffee in the fresh air, or perhaps sneak in an indulgent sunny afternoon hammock-sized snooze. There's an open-fronted garage, plenty of parking and a paddock with grazing sheep and horses directly beyond the garden.
*Dogs: 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost each. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog and we will then revise your booking confirmation. The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Your pet fee must be paid for before your arrival date.
Ground Floor
Open Plan Living Area:
Large glass doors lead into the spacious living room with stone flooring and plenty of seating for four, with two, two-seater sofas and a pair of easy chairs. The dry stone chimney breast forms a real focal point, as does the contemporary, suspended wood-burning fireplace. Spotlights that can be dimmed for a gentler glow dot the ceiling, and there's a Smart TV and plenty of books, covering a variety of genres.
Kitchen/Dining Room:
The monochrome colours of the kitchen-dining room are a perfect representation of the natural tones that can be found throughout the barn, and this is a sleek and well-appointed space. Black granite surfaces sit on top of mid-grey cupboards, and you'll find all the practical equipment needed including a full-size dishwasher, fridge and freezer plus a full oven and a gas hob. A dark wood dining table with two benches gives ample seating for four guests. There's a door to the rear hall/boot room which has a stable door, coat hooks and a welly rack where you can dry outdoor gear after countryside rambles, plus the utility cupboard, which houses the washing machine.
Cloakroom:
This handy space is in the rear hall/boot room and has a WC, hand basin, vanity storage unit and a large mirror.
First Floor
A wooden staircase with a sisal runner, handrail and glass stair panel leads up to the first floor. At the top, the galleried landing looks down from a glass balustrade to the living room below. The high, vaulted ceiling ensures this area feels light and spacious.
Bedroom One:
After all the fresh country air you're sure to sleep like a baby in this peaceful bedroom. A comfy king-size bed lies beneath a roof light (there is a pull-down blind), reading lamp-topped bedside tables stand on either side of the bed and there's a window to the side with views over the Swere Valley. Built-in wardrobes ensure there is lots of storage, whilst roof beams add character.
Bedroom Two:
The second of the two bedrooms is an inviting twin, with a pair of wooden single beds and a small occasional table with a reading lamp which sits between the two, acting as a bedside table for both. With a roof light and a large window, this room feels bright and cheerful. There are built-in wardrobes and a button-back occasional chair, where you can curl up with one of the many classic children's books found throughout the barn. Step through the wardrobe into Narnia or maybe take a stroll through the 100-acre wood with Winne the Pooh.
Bathroom:
Sitting between the two bedrooms is the modern bathroom, home to a double-ended bath with a shower above it, which is just perfect for lazy soaks after a day of exploring. There's also a hand basin and WC and a large mirror. Natural light comes from the roof light.
Outside
The post and rail fence which lines the driveway draws the eye to the sturdy, simple lines of the barn. The gravel driveway provides lots of parking, and you can drive right up to the door. The garden wraps around Spring Barn, flanked on one side by hedgerows and to the other by a paddock in which you'll often see grazing sheep and a horse or two. To the rear of the house is a stone patio with a wooden table and two benches and a cantilevered parasol. During the warmer months, there's also a double canvas deckchair and a hammock. The countryside views are simply beautiful with nothing but trees and fields and the Swere Valley in the distance.
