About this property
Picturesque: 17th century country house in Kingham
Westward Cottage is a 300 year-old honey-stoned cottage nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Kingham. Formerly a traditional weavers' abode, it combines a wealth of period features with a modern aesthetic.
A 3-minute walk to not one but two excellent pub-restaurants, and with Daylesford Farm, Bamford Spa, Blenheim Palace and endless walks on your doorstep, it's easy to see why Kingham has been voted the UK's best village by Country Life magazine. I look forward to welcoming you!
Grade II listed and built around 1700, Westward Cottage has been renovated, furnished and equipped to a high standard. Wait a moment while you're making your way to the front door and, weather permitting, the subtle smell of lavender and the gentle drone of bees will fill the air around you.
On the ground floor, there is a small but cosy lounge containing a traditional log burner and a luxury Mulberry fabric sofa together with access to Netflix, Apple TV and a Sonos sound system. Similarly, the kitchen maintains a traditional look whilst being equipped with mod-cons such as a Bosch dishwasher, SMEG appliances and a KitchenAid coffee machine. There is a small but pretty garden space to the back of the cottage with just enough room for a table for two.
The first flight of stairs leads on to the first bedroom containing some charming traditional features and a luxury double mattress as well as the bathroom with a cosy bath and shower. Please mind your head when showering!
The second bedroom is up a further flight of stairs in the loft and comes equipped with a wall mounted TV, Apple TV, a Sonos sound system and a luxury King sized mattress nestled under the eaves of a giant log beam.
There is also access to an outbuilding towards the back of the property which contains a washing machine and separate dryer as well as ample space for storing logs and muddy boots.
Please note that the cottage is typical of its time and has a few quirks you will need to be mindful of, namely low ceilings and wooden beams (mind your head when entering the front door, kitchen and when showering, for example!) and a relatively steep main staircase…but I think you will agree that this all adds to its crooked and traditional charm. Space in the lounge area and back garden mean that whilst it is more than comfortable to host up to four people, the cottage is perhaps most ideal when occupied by two.
There are a number of other of cottages available in very close proximity to Westward cottage (including immediately next door) which could be booked simultaneously, subject to availability.
I hope you get a chance to visit Westward cottage and will do all I can to make your stay a happy one!
Guest access The entire cottage will be yours and is conveniently accessed through a key lock. I will send the code to you before your arrival and you can easily check yourself in.
There is also a sizeable outbuilding belonging to the property to which you will also have access; a useful space for storing wellies and boots and containing other mod-cons including a washing machine and separate dryer.
If you would like to arrive earlier than the check-in time, please let me know so I can confirm the cottage will be ready for you.
Other things to note Please note that, whilst basic foodstuffs (coffee, tea, condiments) will be available at the cottage, you will need to provide your own breakfast and any other meal. The Village Stores in Kingham stocks all of the basics should you need them (though note closing time of 7pm)!

No complaints at all, lovely little cottage in a lovely little village. Hosts helpful when needed, would definitely come back! If anything the pictures on the listing don’t do the cottage justice!
A delightful property! I stayed for two months from June-August with my golden retriever. The cottage was everything as advertised, and was perfect for my needs. I can absolutely recommend this property for singles or couples, with or without a dog. The village has two delightful pubs/restaurants and the village store can accommodate immediate needs. It was everything I hoped for in a Cotswold Summer.
A beautiful quaint cottage. Well appointed to get to surrounding villages and attractions. Very well equipped, clean and warm. Thoughtful host, which had provided lots of additional information to help us enjoy our stay. Great local pubs within walking distance, only one local shop, which has long hours and all the basic provisions . Excellent nearby local farm shop if required. I would definitely recommend this property.
We loved it. Took a bit to get used to the idiosyncrasies and quirks (keys to open doors, no headroom in shower), but we'll chalk that up to the charm. Property manager could communicate a bit better, but we would recommend this vrbo in a heartbeat. Thanks!
Gorgeous historic cottage in the heart of the Cotswolds. Over 300 year old building so you do need to be careful with the low ceilings and beams etc. plus the narrow stairs. Comfy bed, lovely kitchen and our host Katrina had put posies of fresh flowers around the cottage which was a nice touch. There were also biscuits, tea and coffee for us. If you like character then I highly recommend this cottage. Free parking was easy just outside on the street.

Horrible stay! Avoid if you can
No hot water and significant delay in responding to messages.
We had no hot water for 2 out of 3 nights. This is unacceptable during the winter months, and especially when I had two children with me. In addition, I wasted a lot of my time dealing with this issue, including speaking to Katrina (manager of the property), Vrbo customer support team, the neighbour and plumber on multiple occasions. The plumber made 3 visits to the property and spend hours working on the issue. This disrupted our holiday stay in the cottage.
If you want to get away from it all then Kingham is the place to stay, the village is stunning! The cottage is beautiful, full of character with a few much needed modern accessories(wonderful coffee maker)My friend and i had a wonderful stay and hopefully will return one day!
