A warm welcome awaits you at The Feathered Nest in the heart of Winchcombe. Home to Sudeley Castle and the Winchcombe meteorite as well as perfectly located to explore the many beautiful Cotswold villages. This beautiful grade 2 listed cottage has been sympathetically restored to accommodate the needs of the modern guest while keeping many of the traditional features of a Victorian wool cottage.
Guests often say how delighted they are to have discovered Winchcombe as it’s less busy compared to some of the more well known Cotswold Villages but still with all the charm & in a fantastic location for walking or sightseeing the region.
As a local resident and private host I take the utmost pride in our holiday cottage and love nothing more than ensuring our guests have the best possible holiday they can.
I live locally and am on hand to offer advice whether this is on places to visit, restaurants to book or bring you some more logs for the fire.
This enchanting 18th Century cottage cannot fail to impress the discerning guest. The property has been sympathetically restored with the highest standard of fixtures and fittings as you would come to expect from our previous cottage - The Vine. Everything has been thought of to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Providing an exceptional guest experience is very important to us therefore we do not add any hidden extra's to the cost. No local tax or additional person charge. What you see is what you pay.
Situated in the heart of the Anglo-Saxon town of Winchcombe you are only a stone's throw from the magnificent Sudeley Castle Esate.
N.B. For Stays during the winter months you will receive a free basket of logs and enjoy festive touches such as twinkling lights around the front door and fire place, a wreath and foliage over the FirePlace.
As you enter the cottage you walk into the flagstoned floor sitting room with large inglenook fireplace and log burning stove. Up two steps you walk into the brand new kitchen with four ring induction hob and electric oven, fridge freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, slimline dishwasher and washing machine. Towards the back of the kitchen is a pretty recess area for dining with upholstered bench seating and dining table. To your right is the luxurious bathroom with Bath Store bath, separate shower enclosure with rain shower head, WC and sink. From the back door you climb three steps into the sunny garden terrace complete with patio furniture. A perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine while the sun sets over the town.
Upstairs is the first floor bedroom with king size John Lewis bed, a wardrobe and recessed shelving complete with lined storage baskets. Bespoke light fittings complement the warm interior. The White Company bed linen and large fluffy White Company Bath Sheets & hand towels are provided for your comfort.
From this bedroom a narrow staircase leads up to the second floor bedroom which has two full size single beds and a pretty dressing table. Under bed storage is also provided.
The property is centrally heated with a brand new cast iron radiators throughout.
Please note that this property is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties due to the number of steps at the property and the twisting narrow staircase. The property was built around 1800 and has many period features.
We provide many home comforts to make packing as easy as possible. There is a hairdryer, electric fan, iron and ironing board & clothes airer provided.
Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided for your comfort.
Winchcombe itself is a delightful small town with a fascinating past stretching back as far as the Saxon era. With the beautiful Sudeley Castle set in a breathtaking 1,200 acre estate on our doorstep and a wealth of National Trust properties locally, Winchcombe cannot fail but impress. Winchcombe also hit the headlines earlier this year when the meteorite landed on a neighbouring property.
Cheltenham is a mere 8 miles away with its impressive array of festivals from Jazz to Literature, Science to Music. For horse racing fans Cheltenham racecourse is a short drive away and during the racing fixtures, there is a wonderful buzz around town as Winchcombe welcomes many more visitors to the town.
Whatever season you visit Winchcombe you will be warmly welcomed by the local pubs and restaurants which are all extraordinarily good.
Further afield you are fantastically located to visit some of the most popular Cotswold towns such as Broadway, Stow-in-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water or even Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon.
I can assure you after a mini-break at The Feathered Nest you really won't want to leave.

About the host
Hosted by Amanda Houghton-Brown
Paul and I had been looking for an investment purchase for a couple of years following the success of our holiday cottage The Vine. Property: 8147381 This is our second holiday cottage in Winchcombe and we have been delighted with how popular the cottage has proved to be. Whether for tourists visiting The Cotswolds for the first time or regular visitors who join one of the many walking groups we are looking forward to providing a comfortable bolt hole for guests throughout 2025 and beyond.
Guests have been delighted with the high level of comfort they receive, how surprisingly light and airy the property is and in particular they comment on the pretty walled garden and the high quality fixtures and fittings we have sourced to give that 'boutique hotel' feel to the property.
Please email us or request to book for further information.
Why Winchcombe? Winchcombe has been our home now for eighteen years and we love living here. Winchcombe has a true village feel with a real heart and soul. While on the doorstep of Cheltenham and many of the popular Cotswold villages, you won't have the huge number of coaches and day visitors found in some other locations. During the Spring of 2021 Winchcombe hit the national headlines in regards to the Meteorite landing just a few doors away here in Winchcombe.

Why they chose this property
Vineyard Street is the most photographed street in Winchombe and even features on the We LOVE England website. It is a beautiful row of 18th Century cottages and when number 6 came to the market in 2015 we couldn't wait to invest in it. The property has been meticulously restored and renovated to live up the expectations of 21st Century guests.
What makes this property unique
At The Feathered Nest you are on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful Cotswold villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Stratford-upon-Avon and Chipping Camden. The magnificent Sudeley Castle Estate is a short walk away. Within 500yards you are at the gates to the castle and a beautiful driveway leads to the castle itself.
The property benefits from a pretty walled garden from where you can enjoy a glass of pimms on your own private sunny terrace while listening to the church bells a short distance away.
The kitchen dining area works well and is lovely and light with four new velux ceiling lights.
The front room is warm and cosy with its large hearth and log burning stove. Logs are provided from November to April. A new flat screen television with free sat channels is provided and free wifi is provided throughout the property.
Upstairs the high standard of comfort continues with a John Lewis king size bed and White Company Bed Linen and fluffy towels to add to that hotel feel. A small wardrobe, recessed storage and deep pile carpet is welcome underfoot. On the second floor two full size single beds with under bed storage and a small dressing table unit provide a cosy room for two. The top floor window opens to views over the town and church. To the rear of the property is a beautiful raised terrace, perfect for an evening sundowner while listening to the birds sing or the church bells peel. To the front of the property there is unrestricted parking for a car, meaning you can leave your car all week if you choose while you enjoy walking the Winchcombe Way.
