Bay House - 3 bedroom Villa, private pool and garden, near beaches

Bay House is a modern, spacious villa set in its own garden on a small private estate near to Jolly Harbour, the premier marina, golf and leisure resort in the Caribbean, situated on the beautiful west coast of Antigua. Jolly Beach is just a 10 minutes walk away; a long sweep of soft white sand and turquoise sea fringed by palm trees, and the entrance to the marina is also just a 10 minutes walk away. The villa has 3 en-suite bedrooms, expansive living areas, and a private swimming pool.

Bay House has been designed for al fresco living with extensive verandas and decks that extend the internal spaces outwards. All principal rooms open to covered external areas, so suited to well-adjusted tropical living. The wide swing-back French doors can be secured open during the day to take full advantage of the cooling breezes and glorious sunshine.
The 3 double bedrooms are all en-suite. The living area has French doors to two sides and is equipped with cable television, DVD player, hi-fi, and high-speed wireless Internet connection. The kitchen area is fully fitted with a range of base and wall units, oven with hob, a large fridge/freezer, and a washing machine. Doors lead out to the dining veranda which has a charcoal barbeque. Ceiling fans and air conditioning are fitted in all rooms.
There are two large covered verandas and an open deck with a 28' x 14' pool. The villa has its own private garden.
Guests should note there are some local bars and restaurants that occasionally play music late at night.

Pros and cons

The villa is well situated but the down side is the sports bar opposite which is very loud until the early hours. Previously I had stayed in the villa next door, so know the area well. Bay House does need some updating, most of it cosmetic. Overall, a pretty good stay but the owner does need to invest as it is a villa that looks dated and a little shabby in some parts. Howard and Jenny were excellent with good communication at all times.

Clean and well designed villa

This villa is an excellent design with three double bedrooms all en-suite, open plan kitchen, dining room and living room and ample open space with comfortable furniture under cover and really nice sun beds for sunbathing by the pool. Kitchen and property in general really well appointed. One thing missing from the description was that the house sits directly opposite a disco / karaoke bar on the other side of a busy main road which plays loud music well into the early hours (3am at weekends and beyond midnight during the week) making it less than comfortable from a quiet relaxing place to sleep. Other than that - everything is as good at it looks in the photos and description - great equipment / fridge / washing machine etc - would definitely recommend apart from those noisy nights

Centrally Located - Exploration Made Possible!

Location! It’s our 3rd trip to Antigua in 18 mths, and of all the properties we’ve rented, while the others were more serene, this one is by far perfectly located: It is a 5-min drive to Darkwood Beach, Rum Bus, and the stretch of beaches along the Caribbean coast. It’s a 3-min drive in the other direction to Epicurean supermarket, Jolly Beach. It’s 20-25 mins to St John’s shopping and 40-mins to English Harbor, 20 mins to Wallings Nature Reserve and zip lining. We loved how central the villa was to anything we wanted to do during our 10 days.The villa delivers a beautiful outdoor living space, where our family of 5 spent lots of time with doors open & breezes wafting throughout the house. The pool is lovely, well-taken care of, the surrounding Bougainvillea, palm trees, and flowering hedges were beautiful and attracted lots of birds. The bedrooms were a good size, each with its own bath. The only time we used AC was at night. The villa is large enough to spread out & have a balance of “me time” for 5+ people and for family fun (we brought Scrabble & card games.) Due to the length of our stay, we had a mid-stay housekeeping visit. Jenny, the property manager, was warm, welcoming and accessible. When we inquired about beach towels, it was not typically provided, but Jenny had 4 dropped off the next day. With 2 kids, this was helpful. Things to consider: (A)We were hesitant to book when we saw previous reviewers discuss noise from across the street. Here is my honest feedback: The villa is on a main road with a collection of bars across the street. Two of them play music in competition with each other at night, at least 1 is playing music all day long. Perhaps things have ramped up lately? The constant, loud music brought a certain energy to the villa that was wearying at times when we just wanted to have a villa/pool day to relax. You can’t hear it as much indoors, but that lessens time spent in the lovely outdoor area if you’re not in the mood for that music. (B)The villa has a washer but no dryer -there are clotheslines to air dry laundry, so pay attention to weather & schedule doing it accordingly. (C)The wifi only works in the kitchen & living room where the router is, but not in the bedrooms. (D)There are intermittent power outages (2 while we were here - 1 for just a few mins and a 2nd for 3 hours). When the power goes out, so does the water. The other 2 places we rented had generators, so we weren’t affected. If both water & power g

Wonderful Villa

We have just returned from a 13 night stay at Bay House. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish . Communication with Howard and Jenny was excellent . We had to stay two extra days due to a flight cancellation which was no trouble. Bay House is well maintained, equipped with everything that you need and very comfortable. Fabulous location near restaurants and great beaches.pool is great . Would highly recommend to anyone.

La maison est spacieuse, propre, bien équipée!!! La piscine et l’espace extérieur sont vraiment parfaits. La maison est située près de Jolly Harbour et de plusieurs magnifiques plages, je crois que c’est le meilleur endroit où être sur l’île. La maison est sur une route principale donc assez bruyante, c’est le seul point négatif de la maison. J’aimerais souligner l’excellent accueil et service de Jenny. Elle est vraiment une hôtesse exceptionnelle! Elle nous a aidé à recevoir notre valise perdue et nous a fait parvenir un objet précieux oublié à la maison à la fin de notre séjour. Merci!!!

Perfect Stay

Location, location, location. No, you are not on the beach but that was not an expectation. What you are is within 5 minutes of the best secluded beaches or if you prefer, some of the more commercial ones. And you are 5 minutes from the grocery store, a gas station and a pickup point for excursions all over the island. It's a perfect launch point for a stay in Antigua. The home is CLEAN. It has all you need and was a perfect spot to end the day in and lounge about after hiking, snorkeling, driving about and basking in the sun. The restaurant across the street has a cornball sign, but the food is great if you don't want to journey out for the night. The property is on the road and so you do get the sounds of vehicles from time to time and you can hear the music across the way lightly playing reggae tunes into the night most evenings. We did not find it distracting. It is the only thing someone might be offput by. Howard and Jenny are great and responsive. Jenny helped arrange an excursion which was kind. Howard happened by and we chatted about his interesting life. We barely used the pool, but it was clean and refreshing at the end of the day for a quick dip. Great home for my wife and I and . our two teenagers. Thank you Howard and team. Good luck in 2020!

Very comfortable clean villa that was both private, but within easy access to local beaches, harbour and amenities. Great space inside and out with a nice pool which was lovely and refreshing any time of day. We used the bbq a couple of times and enjoyed using the large size veranda. The wi-if connection and signal was good The local beach - Valley Church - is within walking distance and is a really nice beach with white sand and turquoise sea and there is a bar at one end of the beach. Jolly harbour is easily walkable for supermarket, restaurants and good beach and beach bars too. Would recommend a trip to Nelsons Dockyard at English harbour and also Falmouth Harbour and to Shirley heights all in the same area. We got the bus outside the Villa to the capital St Johns, which is worth having a walk around, and going to the cathedral (being renovated) and the museum. The Villa is in a great location if you just want to relax on the beach or by the pool or whether you want to venture out and explore the island.

Overall we loved the house and would definitely stay here again. Frye house is directly behind Bay house. Bay house being right on the road was not an issue we didn't have issues with noise Pros Booking - Howard was great to deal with, I made a mistake on my dates and he was very accommodating in changing it. House - Each bedroom having it's own ensuite bathroom was what drew us to this house. The extra half bath in the hallway was great for company and to use when you are running in from the pool. Each bedroom also had it's own air conditioner which was good. Having the private pool was awesome, and we often didn't venture out since we had everything we needed where we were. A hairdryer was provided in each bathroom. The kitchen had a coffee maker, dishwasher and washing machine as well as any dishes that you may need. A taxi was provided to take us to and from the airport. The driver (Gregory) was excellent and we hired him to take us on a couple of excursions. A cell phone was provided to make local calls and keep in touch with Jenny who managed the house. During our 2 week stay we had the maid come once, the pool cleaned twice, the gardener come as well as someone to spray for bugs. Location - We were located about a 15 minute walk to Jolly Harbor where there is a grocery store and several restaurants. The beach is about a 20 minute walk. There is also a very good restaurant right across the street. Transportation - I had booked a car for the duration of our stay, however it was in very bad condition and after getting to the house and understanding that we could walk to Jolly Harbor and hire Gregory for outings we returned it. If you aren't used to driving on the left hand side of the rode it can be confusing when you get to intersections so would recommend hiring a driver when you want to tour around. Cons Booking - the price is quoted in USD but we paid in Lira and we are Canadian so I found all of the conversions a bit confusing. I wished we would have paid in USD so that it matched the quote. House - The beds were very hard and a couple of us didn't sleep well because of it. Adding a foam topper would help. Since drinking water needs to be purchased it would be nice to have a water cooler in the house. We went through about 20 6 litre water jugs, and having to continually go get water and haul it home was a bit of a pain. We would also have liked a gas bar-b-que, instead of the charcoal one that is there.

30th Anniversary in Antigua!

We stayed in the Bay House July 28th to August 4th. 6 adults. The location of the bay house is wonderful- we all enjoying walking so the 10 minutes to the store. or 15 minutes to Jolly or Valley Church beach wasn't a problem. We dod take the local bus (a little over a dollar US) to Darkwood Beach which was our favorite. you can rent 2 chair under an umbrella for 15US per day. We took our own food and drinks. There are multiple restaurants within walking distance. The Bay House itself is amazing. Having a pool to cool off in was great and all the outdoor living space was put to great use. We did notice that food prices are substantially higher at the Jolly Beach grocery store than they are at home but we were prepared for that. The day trip to Stingray City was well worth it. Jenny, our host was perfect. She arranged our pick up from the airport and departure as well. She even had some cold water in the fridge ready for us. The perfect host - Jenny let us know a lot about the local restaurants and excursions. She is the perfect balance of being available without being pushy. My family and i would stay here again without any hesitation!

Great place!

It was really nice to have our own house and pool while in Antigua. Gregory picked us up from the airport-arranged ahead of time by the owners, and he was so nice and helpful, we booked him to take us around the island on another day. Jenny the house manager was very friendly, helpful and responsive. The AC unit in the living area was not working so she called someone to come the same day to repair it. The house was clean and it was really nice between 4 friends to have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Jolly Harbour's grocery really was about 10 minutes away. We ate a lot next door at Sugar Ridge and across the street a couple of times when they were open. We had everything we needed in the house! I would stay there again for sure.

Very well appointed villa in a good location.

The villa was stylish, well appointed and in a good location for some of the best beaches and restaurants on the island. The site manager Jenny was very friendly and professional and made us feel very welcome. There was some noise from the road and the bar opposite, but it didn’t effect our stay, and we come from a very quiet village with little to no ambient noise; so if we could get used to it, I think any tolerant person could. I would recommend the villa and Owners Direct. The booking process has been smooth and efficient and we had a great holiday.

Great Launching Pad for exploring Antigua

First. Great location. Jolly Harbour area has so many beaches, restaurants, excursions nearby. Also a very convenient modern grocery store nearby. Second the Staff very helpful. From the booking with Howard, the driver Grannam and mostly the onsite help from Jenny. Made the stay easy. Finally the property was great. All the convenciences of home. Pool was nice, Kitchen was well appointed with Pots, pans, blenders etc. So if you want to eat in and save some money you can. If we return to Antigua we would stay at Bay House Again.

Lovely family villa

The villa was clean and spacious both inside and outdoors. We enjoyed having ensuite bathrooms for each bedroom. The pool was a decent size and essential for cooling off in the heat! Other reviews mention that the villa is close to the road and noisy, but I don't agree. It is close to the road but there is not a lot of traffic. We live in a quiet rural location and didn't find the villa's location unduly noisy at all. It is within walking distance of some gorgeous beaches, we visited Jolly beach and Valley Church bay. The local supermarket is a 10 minute walk and well stocked although expensive. We really enjoyed our holiday.

Beautiful villa in a good position

We have just returned from a lovely stay in Antigua. The villa is spacious and well designed to give a feeling of space and light. Sitting on the wrap-around veranda is a dream morning and evening sipping a cold beer or wine. The pool is warm and well looked after and is lovely to get into day or night. We walked to Jolly, Valley church & Ffryes beach from the villa without any difficulty. The supermarket is also near enough for a walk to and from. Good choice of restaurants nearby for your evening meals. Highly recommend with just 1 niggle; there is a restaurant over the road that did have loud music once or twice during our stay of 10 days into the early hours, something to bear in mind if you have young children.

Excellent villa

Had a fab stay in this lovely holiday villa. Everything as described. The three double en suite bedrooms are a real bonus. Wonderful outside space where we spent most of our time. Supermarket in Jolly Harbour close by ( you can walk to it) and has everything you need, although it is expensive. We had a lovely meal in the Greek restaurant in Jolly Harbour and the little Italian does good take away pizza. The only negatives are the road noise affects the main bedroom, and oddly the noise continued most of the night. Also you will need to plan what you will do on the last day if you have to vacate the villa at 10.00 am and your flight home is not until the evening. We did Stingray city which was great fun and had a lovely day around English Harbour. Be warned the roads are not good if you hire a car and local driving practices somewhat interesting. Lovely beaches, including great ones close to the villa but they do get busy when the cruise ship parties arrive - after 4 pm you have them to yourself. Overall we had a great holiday, would highly recommend this villa but we did find some things very expensive in Antigua e.g £35 for a small bottle of suntan lotion.

2 weeks in July with family

There are a many good points about this property such as cleanliness , size , facility, air con but a few thing bugged me . Specifically : Ffryes House is the same price as Bay House , but the latter is right next to the road. The sun was up before 6 AM and the curtains didn't keep out much light. From google maps, it appears a development open up across the road , so for 3 nights we we disturbed until well beyond midnight from said development The pool looks a lot better maintained in the picture than the one we found, but it was adequate and very welcome. Certainly I wouldn't dive into it as it was only 4 feet-ish deep in the middle. Very handy for the best beaches on the island though ie Ffryes for example and the supermarket I hope this helps

Perfect holiday destination

Our family of 5 stayed here in April. We were greeted at the villa by Jenny who was very helpful throughout the week; arranging days out, advising us with restaurants and good beaches etc. We didn't hire a car but used local taxis and they were all very reliable and friendly. The villa itself is lovely; spacious, spotlessly clean, great pool, large well equipped kitchen and good value. We had some delicious meals out; would recommend Sheer Rocks as the best lunch (Tapas) we had on the Island, also Jacqui O's and Dennis' Place. All the beaches were stunning. Two slight negatives; the villa is on a fairly busy road which was noticed most in the early evenings when sitting out by the pool. Also, we thought the beaches were much closer (they are in fact close but you have to walk along the road for 10/15 minutes before finding a track to the beach). Would recommend Antigua; it is a lovely quiet and friendly Island and we would stay at Bay House again.

Amazing stay at the Bay House in Antigua!

My friends and I traveled to Antigua for our Spring Break, and our stay was everything we could have asked for, and the Bay House was a huge reason for that! First of all, it was great to have an entire villa to ourselves. We had 6 in our group and the size was perfect for us. We often spent our time outside on the deck/pool areas (definitely take advantage, especially after the beach). The deck was a perfect place to hang out at night after dinner and the lights created a nice atmosphere. As for the inside of the villa, it is pretty accurately depicted in the pictures. The living room is spacious and you can leave all of the doors open for fresh air throughout the house. The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to cook and the washing machine is convenient. The owners provide you with plenty of bath/pool towels, a phone to communicate with the villa rep and taxi drivers, and general recommendations for things to do. In terms of location, I found it to be perfect. Right across the street, there are a lot of restaurants with amazing food (I recommend Island Pizza and the wings at Fort Smoke K's). We went during an off-season, so it wasn't very busy at the time but during the summer may get more popular. As for beaches, be prepared to walk quite a bit if you aren't renting a car and remember to bring a lot of water. Our favorite beach was Ffryes beach, which was about a 20-25 minute walk. Definitely worth the travel if you don't want crowds. The grocery store is also in this direction (we went there often to buy snacks, water, food to cook, beer, etc.). Jolly Beach was closer and a decent beach, but would fill up when cruise lines would stop for the day. Some issues that we had with the property were that the water stopped working at one point and the lock to the main gate broke. However, Howard came himself and fixed it right up. Him and Jenny (the villa rep )were incredibly responsive to our problems and made sure we were as comfortable as possible. That being said, the Wifi was not very good, but you are on Antigua and shouldn't need to use the internet besides for researching things to do on the island. Overall, this was an unbelievable vacation and the Bay House Villa is a great accommodation. Definitely recommend, so don't hesitate to book!
