About this property
The Flora MacDonald Apartment
The Flora MacDonald apartment is named after the heroine who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape Government Forces after the 1746 Battle of Culloden. Flora lived at Armadale and married here in 1750.
Located on the first floor of our historic Clan Donald Stables building the apartment is accessed via an outside stair to the garden terrace and provides spacious and well-appointed living space for up to 4 guests within a king-size double room and a twin room. This apartment is not suitable for children under 5 years of age.
The accommodation consists of a large living room and dining area, a well-equipped kitchen including an electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer, and two bedrooms with built-in wardrobes and storage space. The apartment benefits from a toilet and a separate bathroom with a combined shower and jetted bath.
No pets are permitted.
There is allocated roadside private parking.
The apartment is available for rent throughout the year.
During the visitor season (April-October) we invite you to explore our beautiful Castle Gardens and Museum for free. Just show your key at the ticket office for unlimited entry during public opening hours.
Quality self-catering and Visit Scotland four-star accredited accommodation on the grounds of Armadale Castle, in tranquil south Skye. Our six cosy cabins are brilliant for couples, families, and groups and have breathtaking views of the Sound of Sleat, situated on the hillside above Armadale, opposite Knoydart.
We also offer our Foresters Cottage, which has its private garden and gives guests their privacy when staying. The spacious Flora MacDonald Apartment can also be booked. It is located on the upper level of our historic Stables building.
Welcoming and comfortable, the properties are equipped to the highest standard, ensuring a pleasant stay at Armadale. The cabins consist of an open-plan living and dining kitchen, with a patio door leading to your veranda offering stunning sea and mountain views.
All of the accommodation units sleep 4 to 5 people. Bed linen, towels and electricity are included in the price, so there are no hidden extras. We have some dog-friendly units, but please ensure you add your dog when booking. There is a charge of 20 GBP per dog per stay (max of 2 dogs per accommodation).
The dog-friendly properties are Antrim, Sleat, Glencoe, Keppoch and Clanranald cabins, and the Foresters Cottage. However, dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms. Dogs are not permitted in Glengarry Cabin or the Flora MacDonald Apartment.

The Armadale estate was once part of the traditional lands of Clan Donald and the family seat of the Macdonalds of Sleat. At its heart is Armadale Castle, now a romantic ruin, which sits in a dramatic position overlooking the Sound of Sleat. The Castle is surrounded by 40 acres of magnificent gardens, with exotic planting, magnificent trees and charming walks.
Also on the estate is the award-winning Museum of the Isles, which tells the story of the Highlands and Islands and Clan Donald.
The estate is now run by a charitable trust dedicated to promoting the history and traditions of the clan and the Highlands and Islands. Accommodation guests have unlimited free entry to the Castle, Gardens and Museum during normal opening hours throughout the season from April to October.
