The Backyard is a newly built house in York,oozing with character and offering the perfect accommodation for up to six people. Located in Heworth, a quiet residential area in York, the house is within 10 minutes walking distance from the city centre where you can access all the wonderful things this amazing city has to offer - including countless restaurants, pubs, tea and coffee shops. York is known for its collection of small independent and somewhat unusual shops, which are definitely worth visiting. You can, of course, find all the major high street retailers here and York Designer Outlet is only a short bus ride away. For groceries, you are simply spoilt for choice, with all the main grocery shops within easy walking distance. The train station is only 25 minutes’ walk away (20 minutes to Leeds, 1 hour 50 min to London) and if you fancy a ride into town or a day out in the countryside, the bus stop is around the corner.
On entering this property, you feel immediately at home. There is a convenient coat rack and a cupboard for shoes, plus a separate WC. The hallway leads you to a wonderfully comfortable lounge which has direct access to the garden via a bifold door, perfect for those long summer evenings. The lounge leads to a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need for cooking your holiday breakfast or a delicious evening meal.
On the first floor you will find two good sized bedrooms plus a shared bathroom with a bath/shower. One of the bedrooms has a wonderfully comfortable king size bed with plenty of storage for you. The second bedroom is equipped with a sofa bed that can be made up into a comfortable double, again with plenty of space. Continuing up to the second floor, there is a lovely bedroom that has twin beds that can be made up into a super king, dependent upon your needs. This bedroom also has its own en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. Please note, individual single duvets are supplied for each bed at this property.
The house is situated in a quiet area, giving you a peaceful oasis in which to retreat when you need a break from your York adventures! It has a lovely outside space for the warm days and is a cosy retreat for the cooler nights. It also has parking for one car, two by prior arrangement.

Comfortable modern house
Comfortable three bedroom house but 2 of the bedrooms a little on the small side. Very clean and well equipped. Also good location - easy access to the centre of York.
Lovely place to stay, plenty of space for 4 of us, well equipped and well maintained. good for walking into the centre of york. 😊

Perfect family get away
This was the perfect home for our family getaway. Home was spacious and well equipped. Great location too with a play park just up the road for the littlest of our party and only a 10 minute walk into town for everyone else. Thank you for a lovely week away :)
Very nice property in a good location. Rooms were a little on the small side with limited hanging space. The box room had a bit of a doggy smell and the bed would have been better with the head at the other end so the bedside table could have been placed next to it. Very well equipped

The Backyard No2. Highly recommend 3 bed house
Modern property in private location with easy access to York city centre. It was perfect for our family of 4. Very clean, lots of utensils and appliances provided. Everything looked new. Met the property owner who was very friendly and welcoming.
Family loved the house and would definitely use again.

Comfortable stay at Backyard No 2
The property was clean, tidy and had all the amenities. It was within walking distance to the city centre and supermarkets. There are also a couple of bus stops nearby and there is a parking space for one car outside the property. We had a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable stay at Backyard No 2.
The only suggestion we would like to make is that it would have been nice to have a wardrobe or clothes rail in the bedrooms.
We would definitely recommend the property for anyone wanting to stay in York.

Backyard NO 2, excellent stay
We stayed for a few days while visiting relatives in Heworth who couldn't fit us into their house. We found the property to be scrupulously clean when we arrived. The house is of modest size but we were very impressed by the thought that had gone into the design. Everything was very usable and on a sunny day we enjoyed sitting out in the garden. We would recommend the place wholeheartedly and would readily choose to stay there again.
One thing to note is that as of mid July 2025, Google Maps does not show Wood Street Mews very well. You need to go to satellite view to see the little road. Apple Maps does better and has Wood Street Mews correctly displayed.
The property is well situated for visiting Heworth and close to bus stops for getting to York city centre. Say a 5 out of 5 location score for Heworth, 4 out of 5 if the intended use is York tourism.
