Town: Harden is a small village in West Yorkshire's City of Bradford Metropolitan Area, only two miles from Bingley. Archaeological findings link a Roman town believed to have existed there in 150 AD to Harden's history during the Roman era. In addition to two churches, Harden has a post office, a convenience shop, a butcher's, a village park where a yearly gala is held, and Bingley St. Ives, a 500-acre park with walking paths, forest, a small lake, and a playground. Sports enthusiasts can play a round of golf at the 18-hole course and witness a local cricket match at the 1950-founded cricket club. The market town of Bingley lies close by, situated between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire. The canal abruptly ascends the valley's side in the Bingley Five Rise Locks. This ancient town was believed to have been established in Saxon times and is listed in the Doomsday book of 1086. After a long trek along the canal, the Main Street is home to good shops, restaurants, and traditional pubs offering tasty cuisine. Haworth village, where the Brontë sisters lived and found inspiration for many of their well-known works, is also easily accessible. It has wild and rocky moorland and a mediaeval hamlet with independent stores and charming cobblestone alleys. The wonderful landscape and numerous walking and cycling options of the Yorkshire Dales National Park are also close by, as are Keighley and Bradford.
