Nice basement apartment below the owner's home. Super comfortable beds. The road getting to it was a dirt road that was extra rough due to recent storms but definitely doable with our small SUV. The area is out of town a bit and so very quiet with a beautiful view. The only down side was the owner's had a lot of stuff in the frig and bathroom. There was a bit of noise upstairs when owners were home but very minimal, not a problem. They have 3 cute dogs, as well.

We were not happy with the road on the first day (early May). Dirt roads get very muddy in the spring when the ground is thawing. But by the end of the week the road had pretty well dried out and was not too bad. We had a couple minor questions that the host quickly answered. Pictures of the property need updated in the listing. The cozy log cabin now has a two story log garage and apartment very close. The views into the valley toward Turn Again Arm and Anchorage were fabulous. Overall, we were very happy with the accommodations and would recommend it.

Not great due to the owners living above. Movement from dogs & people heard until 11:30pm at least. We are early to bed and early to rise people. Water flowing in wall above headboard. Not a peaceful abode. There was no table to sit at inside. The tiniest of living rooms. To be honest we stayed one night and never came back. Oh and when we left there was a woman who opened the door because the tied up little dog was barking loudly - the dog then proceeded to snip at my leg as we walked by, no other course to take. The last communication from the owner was a couple of weeks out sent a message and he failed to reply until we had already checked in for the 1 night. A loss of for sure, but no way could I have stayed there. Lesson learned never rent with people living above you.
This is the downstairs apartment of the owner's home and is well stocked and lovely to stay. We felt at home and there is a really great view of the mountains from the porch/living room windows. If you are staying in the Anchorage/Girdwood area, this is the place to stay.
Great property outside of the hustle of Anchorage but close enough to access easily.Host was responsive and property is clean and ready for guest. We also got lucky enough to have a moose take a nap in the yard one night and were safely able to see it from the safety of our living room window.
We loved being so close to all of the activities in Anchorage. The rental had cozy and comfortable beds, brand new beautiful carpets/flooring and it was very clean. Gary was very helpful and responsive.Thank you for allowing us to stay in your place!Heather, Sam, Hannah and Nathan.

The review said Rent-A-Car. We always recommend people have their own transportation as we don’t live on any bus route and we are in an Alpine setting on the outskirts of the city. I think the low review relates to the fact that they should’ve rented a car instead of relying on Uber

The property we stayed at was wonderful. It was very clean and had all of the amenities needed while we spent some time in Anchorage. Highly recommend.
The view is amazing and the house was nice and warm. Communication with the host was wonderful and they were quick to respond to any questions we had. The only downside was you could hear them above you but thankfully it didn't keep us awake. All and all it was a wonderful trip and they were great hosts. We didn't get to see any Moose as I write this but I'm hoping that we'll see some on the way out.
The place was nice and comfortable. Downhill walk on grass was challenging when wet. Sometimes there was too much noise from the owners living above, including at 11:30 at night when it sounded like a running wash machine and dryer right above our bed. The road leading to this place is not the best.

Thanks for the review and that you found our VRBO both nice and comfortable!
Please note there is a stairway on the left side of the house accessed by the deck on the left side of the house. In the rental instructions it specifies this. No one need to walk down the grass. 😊
Our apologizes for the late night sounds from the wash machine and dryer. We will be more careful of this in the future.
Normally we stop this activity by 7 pm not sure what happened for this particular event.
Overall this is a nice place to stay. The photo of this cabin is a little deceiving. It makes you think, that you are renting a cabin, but actually you are staying in an apartment underneath the cabin. The stairs getting to the apartment are quite steep, so if you have a lot of heavy luggage, this becomes a problem. Also, it is not as isolated as it looks in the photo. You are surrounded by other cabins from all directions. All this considered, it is a nice and clean place to rent.
Was everything we needed. We stayed 2 nights. It was close enough to stores yet far enough away. We had great views and 2 bull moose on our drive to the cabin.
Perfect for what we wanted!

About the host
Hosted by Gary Kutil
I am a Life long Alaskan. My family Homesteaded 160 acres in the Mat-Su Valley in 1959 where my father built a log cabin. In those days we lived a Subsistence Lifestyle and lived off the land by gardening, hunting and fishing. Today we use the cabin recreationally, but it still has no running water or plumbing. The Outhouse however has a historic quality about it being nearly 60 years old. :) I developed a passion for Alaska's hunting and fishing starting at age 6 and continuing to today. I am a husband of 1, a father of 2, and a Grandfather of 8, all living in Anchorage. :)
Why they chose this property
I grew up in a Log Cabin and always had an itch to build one so in 1999 I built the Eagles Nest. It took 10 months and I remember some cold days of building thru the middle of the winter and the Snowy Owls that would sit in a tree and hoot at me while I was working and a big Bull Moose that charged at me and broke the log railing on the front porch.
What makes this property unique
The views , the quite and the coziness.
