About this property
DaneSide New Forest 3 bed house. Hot tub, on stream by sea & shops. Dog friendly
DaneSide is a bright, airy dog-friendly semi-detached property at the end of a quiet residential cul-de-sac with two parking spaces for guest use.
It is by the village centre, set on the Dane Stream with a private long garden that has rattan furniture (seating and 2 loungers) and a brand new Blue Whale Malibu IV hot tub (September 2024) yet is just one minute walk to the vibrant Milford-on-Sea village shops, cafes, bars and green and a 5 minute walk along Sea Road to the beach and stunning view of The Needles.
There is lots to do in and around Milford-on-Sea. The village is host to an array of independent boutiques, buzzy bars, gastropubs, cafes and a butcher and green grocer. The village green has many events from the music festival and dog show to plant sales and showcases for local artists.
You can walk along the promenade to the east along Hurst Spit, all the way to Hurst Castle which is an ancient fort. The spit is also the best position to watch the famous Round the Island Yacht Race. If you are out this way, Keyhaven the hamlet next door to Milford is where the New Forest Paddle Sport company is located, so why not take a paddleboard lesson or rent a kayak?
Milford is only a 7 minute drive from Lymington with its long wide Georgian High Street. It is home to the Community Market, one of the best and most popular markets in the UK which takes place every Saturday. From fresh local crab and honey to antiques and outerwear, there is something for everyone.
Brockenhurst is just a 15 minute drive taking you to the start of many lovely New Forest walks. We've left a book in the property that features 30 New Forest circular walks of 6-8 miles, ideal if you are holidaying with your dog.
In the house itself, the sitting room has a comfy "sofas & stuff" sofa and 55" Smart TV with BT Sports package. Those staying in winter will likely enjoy the wood burner. Books, puzzles and games are also supplied.
The recently refurbished kitchen is equipped with everything you need for a self-catering stay, including a very large American Fridge freezer, ideal if you want to make meals in advance and bring them to save cooking whilst away! However if you'd like to get cooking, the SMEG range oven with induction hob and Ninja Dual Air Fryer will help you whip up a storm :) The Nespresso coffee machine means that you never need to go without a caffeine fix.
The dining area is in the west facing conservatory leading out on to the garden where there is an outdoor cabin, set up as a second sitting room with a futon sofa and 32" Frame Smart TV. The wifi repeater is also in the cabin, ensuring great connectivity.
The lower decking features 2 rattan sun loungers and the brand new Blue Whale Malibu IV hot tub and the upper deck has further rattan furniture for outdoor seating and dining.
Being on the stream it's lovely to hear the birdsong especially the apparently resident blackbird and the bank attracts butterflies, ducks and moorhens. There is also a kingfisher that pops by sometimes.
As the garden is long, there are always both sunny and shady spots.
Upstairs in the property is a king size divan bed with firm mattress, a twin room with two singles and a single bedroom. All with black out curtains and/or blinds with curtains. All bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe and drawer storage. The bathroom is a bath with mains powered, powerful Bristan shower over.
We love sitting on the wooden swing made for two on sunny evenings in the garden as the sun goes down.

About the host
Hosted by Helen Rutherford

Hi I am Helen and I am a Hampshire that lives between West London and Milford-on-Sea. When I found DaneSide, I was over the moon that there was a village centre property on the Dane Stream. I have walked with my dog Winnie along the Dane for many years, and recently we have been joined by Wilma who isn't safe on dry land! She loves retrieving sticks from the stream as we walk up to Studland nature reserve then across to Hordle Cliff and back along the coast path via the spectacular view of the Needles.
I am a member of Keyhaven Yacht Club and New Forest SUP club, I love being out on the water including open water swimming (though only from June onwards!!).
Why they chose this property
For me, Milford-on-Sea has it all. Just two hours from London, you have the sea on your doorstep and then you're just a short drive from dozens of walks in the New Forest National Park. The village itself is a buzzy, vibrant community centred around a village green. The Cave cocktail and wine bar draws people from many miles around as does Rockpool Cheese shop. You'll enjoy the best brunch in Hampshire at Saltwater Cafe whilst The Pickled Weasel provides all you need for a takeaway to the beach, including the best home made quiches on the South Coast! You can easily spend a long weekend in Milford and not need to drive, but if you do take the car out on a weekend, a visit to Lymington community market which takes place every Saturday is highly recommended.
What makes this property unique
Over the years I have stayed in many holiday lets with my dogs. I have equipped DaneSide based on what I had hoped other holiday cottages would have and what I have seen and thought "WOW" in other cottages which is why we have superfast wifi, a large American Fridge Freezer, a hot tub, second sitting room, air fryer, range cooker and more! In 2024 we have added a gas barbecue and request a £60 fee per stay, please select "property fee" when booking if you would like to use it.
The location of the property on the banks of the Dane really makes this home from home unique. It is lovely sitting out in the sunny private garden with a glass of wine or Mezze platter and listening to the birds. It is such a peaceful retreat, it's hard to imagine that you are in the centre of the village.
We welcome up to 5 guests at a time here and up to 2 doggy visitors. We do charge a fee of £25 per pet per stay and provide blankets to cover the sofa.
