The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, typically on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, however, we would recommend checking the exact date ahead of placing your booking. This is a traditional fair for gypsies and travelling people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted. Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. Whilst many visitors enjoy the colour and vibrancy associated with the fairs, other visitors prefer to avoid Stow on these dates

Extremely comfortable

Wonderful location and very well equipped. Not the best sound insulation from adjacent properties but not an issue. Always lovely to return to at the end of the day. Would happily stay there again.

Could of been Fabulous…

Beautiful thought out apartment .. decorated to a very nice standard.. Excellent location .. parking available on site .. Lovely balcony to enjoy breakfast or a drink in the evenings Cleaning schedule needs to be looked at and checked .. a lot was missed on our arrival .. cupboard drawers and wardrobes also need to be cleaned..I had to clean the tumble dryer too .. Our small bathroom hadn’t been cleaned in weeks.. No starter pack left so bring teabags, milk etc and we were only given 1 dishwasher and laundry tablet each for one week .. I’d rather they had left none .. I prefer staying in accommodation that the owner assists as you get a much better service

Lovely central apartment, marred by unreasonable neighbours downstairs

Gisleburtus House is a beautiful, spacious apartment right in the centre of Stow-on-the-Wold. Arrival and parking were easy in the allocated space, the flat is well located and mostly clean, and our two year old daughter loved exploring the rooms. That said, a few small lapses such as slightly dirty cutlery, burnt-down candles not being replaced, tissue boxes left empty gave an impression of lack of attention to detail. Individually they’re minor; together they stopped the place feeling premium. On the first morning (around 10:00) we heard strange banging noises, then a little later the couple from the apartment directly below approached my wife when she was down at the car and said we were making too much noise and they could hear everything our daughter was doing. We were surprised as we’re typically a quiet family, and the only activity that morning had been our toddler running around in bare feet and a brief video call. It quickly became clear the floors/ceilings have very poor sound insulation. To try to resolve the issues I spoke with the neighbours later and was met with some wild comments about the noise: “You need to stop your child moving”, “Have you tried taking your child to the park to tire it out?”, “We have had to put up with all sorts of people in your apartment making noise at all hours and we’re sick of it”. At one point in the conversation it even felt that they were implying that if we couldn’t stop our daughter making ‘noise’ that we would have to leave! Incidentally, it transpired that they owned the freehold to the downstairs apartment and were making the banging noises we’d heard earlier by banging on the ceiling in protest to what they considered excessive noise (to us it was regarded as normal living noise). Despite all this I tried to reach a sensible compromise: we would stop our daughter going in the kitchen (apparently the worst area for noise which is directly above their living room), and they would stop complaining. They agreed, but despite our efforts they still banged on the ceiling when we were in the kitchen for very brief moments cooking, or moving through the kitchen to exit the apartment, and even to the point that they were banging when we were packing up all our stuff to check out. The repeated confrontations and the need to restrict our daughter’s movements made the stay uncomfortable. If you have children, or expect ordinary apartment noise, I’d be cautious. For quiet adults travelling without young children this is still a very attractive place, but the listing should be clearer about thin floors. Quick notes / suggestions for the host Address basic housekeeping: replace used candles, restock tissues, check cutlery cleanliness, etc. Mention thin floors/sound sensitivity in the listing so guests know what to expect. Consider adding simple soundproofing (rugs, floor underlay) or a polite neighbour-info sheet to reduce disputes. Would be happy to stay again if the above is addressed, but as things stand we wouldn’t return unfortunately.

Lovely apartment in an ideal location

Thought apartment would be fab from website but photos honestly don't do it justice as stunning and so spacious and comfortable. Waking up to snow on first day was so Christmassy and whole week was perfect for our Christmas shopping break. The Sheep, Porch House, The Bell, Stow Lodge Hotel and The Queens all great for food or a drink and Stow is so central, making it the perfect base. Thanks to Calum for very prompt help with slight issue. All in all can't fault our stay. Many thanks.

Family trip to Stow the Wold

Fantastic location very close to the centre of Stow on the Wold but was still quiet and peaceful. Beautifully decorated apartment keeping the traditional aspects but modern at the same time. We had everything we needed in the apartment. We loved playing cards at the games table one night. As a couple with our son and his partner having an en-suite each was invaluable. I do like a visitors book though, usually get lots of information from other guests. The milk, butter and other essentials were welcome. We would recommend and stay again, good company to deal with.

Lovely stay in a beautiful clean premises

This house is absolutely beautiful. All very clean, modern and well kept. Perfect location in Stow. We had poor communication from the property manager. We contacted him but he didn't help us with our concerns. We will definitely stay there again though as it was perfect for our needs.

Great location, spacious and comfortable place

With the exception of a small hiccup checking in (cleaning hadn't been completed from prior guest - this was quickly remedied), we had a wonderful stay at Gisleburtus House. The bedrooms and living space were quite spacious, and the place had all the amenities we wanted/needed. It was well located near all shops and restaurants.

Short break at Gisleburtus House

Second year in a row we have stayed here. Tastefully decorated with all you need. Great location close to shops, restaurants etc whilst remaining quiet. Own parking space which is useful as Stow gets busy. No garden of course but we spend lots of time out and about. We shall hopefully return next year.

A beautiful house in the centre of Stow

We had a lovely stay at Gisleburtus House. The house is ideally situated in the centre of Stow in the Wold, with all the amenities the village holds. The house was beautifully decorated, comfortable and large. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed for a four night stay.

Great location and Comfortable

We are fortunate to travel extensively around the world and normally stay in 5 star hotels. As on this occasion we were traveling with my brother / sister in-law they suggested staying in self catering accommodation. We found this property online and booked it. Given this was our first experience in this style of accommodation we were impressed. It provided space and it was nice not to have to walk through hotel foyers and even get our car parked. We come from Australia so booking online as people will know can be hit and miss, but we were very happy we chose this property and we would certainly book it again and recommend it. Stay Cotswold was helpful and accommodating, so would suggest you book through them as we did not have any issues.

A gem in the centre of Stow on the Wold

Gislebertus House is a delightful spacious, well-decorated and well equipped apartment right in the middle of the lovely town of Stow. Although within easy walking reach of all shops and restaurants it is tucked away in a quiet courtyard, so makes for a very peaceful stay. There were just two of us in the apartment, but the second bedroom was also a good size, and would have easily accommodated a second couple. With oak panelling, interesting pictures and a log burner (bioethanol fired) it is full of character and a lovely place to curl up on the comfy sofas in the evening after a long day of exploring. Spacious bathrooms with showers and bath. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the Staycotswold staff very helpful (their office is just around the corner, if you need help or advice). Stow is well situated to visit many of the pretty Cotswold villages and only about half an hour’s drive to Blenheim Palace, which is well worth the journey. Lots of good places to eat in Stow as well as many shops and galleries to browse. Highly recommend this property and we will certainly return.

A week in beautiful Stow

The perfect location for our week in the Cotswolds. The Gisleburtus House apartment is nestled just off the high street with some wonderful pubs cafes & restaurants all within a few minutes of the property. The apartment is incredibly stylish and well decorated throughout. We were very impressed and would definitely book again.

A great apartment, perfectly location with the bonus of an accessible parking space.

Gisleburtus House is a lovely and roomy apartment, beautifully appointed with comfortable furnishing. The primary bedroom is huge with loads of wardrobe space and a comfortable bed. The only real complaint is that the bath towels were small and it would be great if larger towels were provided. The apartment is perfectly located in Stow, with the bonus of an accessible parking space.

Already planning our next weekend here!

10/10 would recommend! The pictures are beautiful so I really hoped it would be as nice as expected, however on arrival I was blown away with the thought and care that has gone in to this place. Every fixture, fitting, lighting and decoration has no expense spared, it felt like such a treat to stay here. As two couple staying we had no issues with space it is deceptively large. Lots of seating options, nice areas to play games, large enough kitchen to comfortably work in which is open plan to socialise. The main living area is a fantastic space, comfortable and inviting. Both bedrooms were beautiful, with the smaller one being perfectly adequate for a couple and what it lost in size was made up for in gorgeous decoration and a comfy bed. The larger room is stunning and like being in a hotel. We didn't realise when we booked that we are in a tucked away location but still on top of a lovely high street with everything you need for a weekend or more, shops, pubs, restaurants, coffee shops. My only comment would be, this is an apartment with ‘neighbours’ below who I believe live there. Due to this, I wouldn’t recommend the apartment to people who enjoy late night music and dancing which may cause too much noise. Otherwise it is an absolute gem of an apartment and well worth a booking.

Beautiful apartment and spacious

We had the wow factor when we walked into the apartment! It's big and spacious, very clean and feels luxurious, super place to stay. However, through no fault of the owners, my sleep was severely disturbed by the church clock which chimes on the hour day and NIGHT! The first night I heard every hour. I bought myself some earplugs which did help but as a light sleeper this was a bit of a nightmare for me. Because of this, sadly we would not stay again. However, it did not bother my husband and daughter. Being very picky, the kettle could do with descaling!

Superb holiday let

This lovely little flat exceeded our expectations. From start to finish the company could not have been more helpful. The accommodation was superb and we could not find fault with anything. Some non slip stickers in the bath might be an idea, as I found it quite slippery getting out of the shower. Lovely welcome pack to put you on till you can do a shop. I would highly recommend, great base to explore from
