About this property
Cozy Private Cabin Within Flagstaff City Limits~Freestanding Guesthouse
Guests should have access to the vacation rental app prior to check-in. We will send all check-in information, directions, and key codes through the VRBO app.
Located on the east side of Flagstaff this cabin is within the city limits yet has the rustic charm of a woodsy cabin. (Please note; the cabin is in a suburban neighborhood, it is not a 'rural cabin-in-the-woods') Convenient to Highway 89 and Interstate 40. Walk out the front door to enjoy the Flagstaff Urban Trails hiking trails of Mount Elden, the Arizona Trail and Picture Canyon Trail. A great jumping-off point for your trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Walnut Canyon and all that Northern Arizona has to offer!
The space:
This is a small guest house on our property, our house is the green house you may see in some of the background of some of the pictures.
We will send directions to the cabin the day before your check in and will send a keycode for the front door shortly before your check-in time. We will write you through VRBO/HomeAway messaging. If you will not have access to VRBO/HomeAway please write us well in advance to make other arrangements . Dawn and I both work so we may not see you during your stay but we are always available via text or telephone to answer any questions or promptly address any issues.
We have this listed for up to 4 people but it would be very tight accommodations for more than two or three adults. This is a small one-bedroom cabin. There is a daybed with trundle in the kitchen / living area and a queen sized bed in the bedroom (see pictures).
Please note, there is no smoking allowed in the house but there has been smoking in the past; there are no pets allowed in the house but there have been pets in the house in the past.
We are in the 'Smokerise' neighborhood of East Flagstaff. We are just off of Highway 89 And close to the Interstate 40 Country Club exit .
The house is in a residential, suburban neighborhood within the city limits of Flagstaff, but it is set back, off the road, with views of Mount Elden. While the cabin is small-ish, it has a nice covered porch which adds additional 3 season living space.
There is a small stacked washer dryer set. It is adequate for light loads of approximately 10 lb, if you have heavy items please use the laundromat at the park Santa Fe Shopping Center.
There is wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in the cabin, the Internet service we provide is the only Internet available in our neighborhood, it is subject to outages outside of our control . Cable television is available through an online streaming service on a Roku streaming device. You can login to your personal streaming accounts on the Roku, there is also an auxiliary HDMI port if you want to connect your streaming device. We also get five or six broadcast channels over the antenna.
We can often accommodate same-day bookings, but check-in may be as late as 5pm in these cases due to housekeeping scheduling. Regardless of the website settings please email us prior to making a "same-day" booking, we are not always able to accommodate . Drop a note with any questions.
We are approximately 2 miles away from Flagstaff Mall, Safeway/Starbucks, Harkins Theaters, and other shopping. We are approximately 15 minutes down Route 66 from downtown Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University.
We are approximately an hour and 15 minutes down Highway 89 from the Desert View Visitor Center at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I personally prefer entering the Park from this entrance because the flow of traffic is generally lighter when starting from the East entrance. We are approximately 2 hours from Antelope Canyon. This cabin is also an excellent jumping-off point if you're going to make the trip to the north rim of the canyon.
Some notes on the Winter / Fall Seasons:
In the pictures of the cabin you will see white wall heaters in the living room and bedroom. These heaters are very efficient at keeping the cabin very warm and comfortable, but they do not adjust with a standard thermostat. They have a level control behind the access door, they're very easy to adjust but might not be what you are used to at home.
Fall is a great time to visit Flagstaff. The restaurants and attractions aren't as packed as they can be during the summer and winter. The weather is beautiful. It is a perfect time to hike and enjoy the Fall colors.
Flagstaff is known to get rather heavy snow storms during the winter. We are on the schedule of a snow removal service but this occurs according to their workload, and when the snow is heavy, removal might not happen in a convenient time frame... In other words you could get snowed in or out. The driveway will get plowed but guests need to shovel out their own vehicle, we do not have a service to shovel out cars, but we do provide a sturdy snow shovel.
The fireplace you see in the pictures is not operable, the chimney is blocked off and insulated no fires are permitted in the fireplace.
We are apx 12 miles from the parking/shuttle at the Arizona Snowbowl & apx 22 miles from Arizona Nordic Village. There are great Snowshoeing and Snow Play opportunities within a short walk from the cabin. The covered porch is a great place to keep your skis & snow-play gear.

Our family calls this The Shepherd's Cabin, it is located between Mount Elden and Sheep Hill on the east side of Flagstaff. What we have been able to find by word of mouth is that this cabin was built in the Late 1800's / early 1900's as a temporary residence for Shepherds who were tending flocks in the area; at the time this was far removed from the town of Flagstaff. It has been nicely updated but still features the rustic charm of a well-built fieldstone cabin. Our friends and family have enjoyed staying here through the years and we are thrilled to offer it to those looking for unique and historic lodging through VRBO / HomeAway. Please check out all the pictures, read the description and don't hesitate to write with any questions!
Thank you Ed and Dawn
