About this property

34 Coney Street - The Book Sellers

CONEY STREET , York’s premier shopping street was home to some colourful characters down the ages. In 1150, the main street in York, was called Cuningstrete, the King’s Street. It ran from Ousegate right to the Museum Gardens. By the 18th century it was the site of the seat of government in the city, with the Guildhall and the Mansion House in pride of place. But it was in the 19th century that it became a shopping centre par excellence, with high class fashion establishments, costumiers, furriers, milliners, linen drapers, pianoforte warehouse, bookshops and jewellers, as well as the home of York’s first department store, Leak and Thorp which opened in 1869.

The Book Sellers

Tucked away to the rear of 34 Coney Street this one bedroom cottage is a hidden gem. Once home to a Bookseller, printer, bookbinder, and stationer this luxury hideaway has been finished with a playful nod to the previous occupants. Featuring existing bare brick with contrasting book cover patterned wallcovering, the cottage is bold, vibrant and original - tying the present with the past.

When you enter the property you walk into a beautiful living area, complete with comfortable sitting area where you immediately want to kick off your shoes, sit back and just relax! There is also a fully fitted kitchen complete with coffee maker, essential for those leisurely mornings. The exposed brick work, striking wall coverings and chandelier lead you onwards to the bedroom on the first floor, complete with large comfortable bed and luxury en suite bathroom. The bathroom has been finished with brass finishings and you will thoroughly enjoy spending time in this beautiful oasis.

The property also has a sofa bed in the living area to accommodate the occasional extra guest or children.

Whether you are in York for a short break or treating yourself to longer, The Book Sellers is tucked away peacefully yet only a matter of steps to the main street in the centre of York. With everything literally on your doorstep you are spoilt for choice, the easiest being you accommodation - The Book Sellers - your first and very best decision!

8/10 Good

The Booksellers mini break
The Booksellers is a quaint property in an excellent location in the heart of York, perfect for a mini break with the family. Unfortunately we experienced a couple of issues, one was no signal on the TV, so no freeview. The other was a major plumbing issue which meant we had to vacate the property after one night. Stays were quick to resolve the issue by offering alternative accommodation which was fabulous, it was just a shame that there was no 3 bed available so our family were split across 2 individual apartments rather than being able to stay together for the remainder of our holiday and did cause disruption moving our things and wasting precious holiday time.
