We had a wonderful stay at Hell Fyre, and what an amazing house! We felt very privileged to be able to stay in such a historical place that has been so sympathetically brought up to modern standards. Excellent communication with the lovely Louise, who generously left us some delicious edible treats and made sure we had everything we needed.
Property was a very interesting cottage and full of character and old charm. There were lots of books and games for evening or bad days. Louise was a perfect host and made us very welcome and we will definitely return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This turned out to be a home away from home.
Our hosts were superb, making sure we settled in and were comfortable.
There were lots of little details that made our stay enjoyable and memorable. Items such as the history, displays, wildlife and so forth.
The only true and meaningful compliment that we can offer is: Would we return? Absolutely. In fact, we are already starting our plans for that return trip.

True escapism
Unique get-away that feels like you're in another world but is not actually that far from civilisation. Hell Fyre 1594 is a unique and charming blend of character, comfort, history, storytelling and whimsy.
Internally there is more than you could ask for. Comfort has been considered at every level - the bed is exceptionally comfortable and there is a sofa, armchair and lighting option for almost every whimsy. The gardens are absolutely wonderful with a plethora of areas to sit and enjoy.
The host is charming and interesting and always accessible.

One of the best stays I’ve had
One of the best stays I’ve had. Very good value for money, absolutely lovely house and host, I would strongly recommend! It’s isolated and located right on a rich network of footpaths which is perfect for a countryside retreat. In December, the garden and surroundings were still full of birds and interesting mushrooms. Lovely attention to details, little messages throughout the house, a truly special place full of history! The owners are lovely and I was lucky enough to have a chat over tea with them as they live next door.

A Holiday to Remember
Our stay at Hell Fyre was a delight. We were warmly welcomed by Louise, to find a well-stocked kitchen, and a warm and comfortable home. The period character of the house made this a special holiday for us. We stayed for three weeks, and were pleased to be able to extend our stay a bit – we so enjoyed living here. We walked the local pathways to villages close by. The location made it easy to take day trips to numerous castles, houses and gardens, and if we were ever at a loss for something to do, Louise and John were able to offer interesting suggestions. They are exceptional hosts, and we feel so lucky to have found them. Highly recommended.

Excellent Property, Wonderful Hosts
An amazing property in an amazing location. Set in the middle of farmland this Sussex Timber Framed House is truly unique. The whole history of the land and property are documented from 1245 both in book form and on the walls of the entrance porch. Filled with original beams and woodwork, inglenook fireplaces and furnished to compliment the age of the building but with modern day living taken into account. An amazing bedroom with vaulted ceiling and modern en-suite bathroom. A lovely kitchen with everything you would need for a stay. A more than generous welcome pack of groceries were supplied. If you arrive with no food/supplies there was enough to make a meal and more. The hosts themselves were welcoming, friendly and interesting, telling us how they rescued the whole farm and rebuilt the house and barn. A truly unique property in a lovely location. Would not hesitate in staying again or recommending.
