About this property
17th Century Stone Holiday Cottage - Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean
**Early Check-In & Late Checkout as Standard** Bring a group of old friends or the whole family together in this spacious 17th Century lodge, with an acre of paddocks to yourself. You'll have direct access to the Wye Valley from the garden, so you can leave the car behind and explore the caves of Great Doward or find your way down to the river and hire a SUP, Kayak or Canoe. Just make sure to visit Ye Old Ferrie Inn afterwards - frequently voted as one of the UK's best riverside pubs.
THE COTTAGE
First of all, we have VERY secure bike storage and a space to wash bikes and deal with dirty kit.
DOWNSTAIRS Downstairs you will find a large well-equipped kitchen leading into an open plan dining and living room, complete with farmhouse dining table for 6 and a pair of relaxing rocking chairs by the open fire.
There is also a separate lounge with cosy woodburning stove, sofa and armchair.
Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin), 2 bathrooms (one with a shower over bath and the other with a large walk in rainfall shower) and a smaller room suitable for a cot, travel bed or as a temporary office space.
Outside the garden wraps around the property with a terraced chill out area, patio for Al fresco dining and a large paddock that connects to the local network of public footpaths and bridleways.
HIKING & MTB HOLIDAYS This is also the perfect base for a hiking or mountain bike holiday, where you can easily access the trails and wilderness of South Wales, the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.
XC and Enduro riders are spoilt for choice, with direct access to the Wye Valley and it's seemingly infinite network of bridleways and singletrack. If downhill and trail riding is more your thing then Dirt Farm (the Black Mountains) and Bike Park Wales are just 30-45mins drive.
15 mins in the other direction is the Forest of Dean Mountain Bike Centre, which has to be one of the best mountain bike facilities in the UK. Trails are graded Blue/Red/Black and there is also a Green Family trail and multiple skills areas. If you're looking to get out with the family or upskill your mountain biking then this is the place to come.

The house and location were lovely and our holiday experience was exactly what we all needed! It’s a very central location and close to so many wonderful walks. The house is beautiful and we had a very comfortable stay. The only negatives were the uncut lawn and access path to the walks path

Hi Nick, thank you for the lovely comments and I'm so glad you had a good holiday. I'm sorry to hear about the lawn, I will check with the gardener and find out why they haven't been. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Kailan is the most attentive host. Prompt responses to questions and requests. He could not have been more helpful. The house is excellent for a family break with lots of lovely walks and places to see close by.

Thank you for the wonderful review Sue, it was a pleasure to host you.
Lovely big house and setting for the family, just a couple of things which would have made it 5* could do with a few more chairs in the living room especially if you have 6 adults or teenagers with you. The floorboards upstairs were a little noisy. No electric kettle or toaster. Overall the house was clean and had most things we needed for our family holiday.
