About this property

Scenic Solitude off the beaten path near Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park

This house sits at over 7,000 feet in elevation on almost 2 acres in Roosevelt National Forest. The secluded location is a perfect place to relax, yet it is 17 miles from Estes Park, CO (Rocky Mountain National Park) and the many shops, restaurants and hiking/biking trails it offers is only minutes from low traveled hiking trails in the National Forest.

The home has an open concept kitchen, living room and dining room with a table that can seat up to 12 people. The kitchen has a peninsula that seat 6. The main level has a large (800 sq ft) deck with a table that seat up to 12. There are two bedrooms and one bath on this level. Both bedrooms have a queen bed. One room has a Human Touch massage chair for after a day of playing.

The lower level is a walkout with large windows open to the west and lots of light. There is a large game area, bedroom, and bath with a walk-in shower on the lower level. The bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a spring mattress futon in the movie theater which is our fourth bedroom. A queen, double level, inflatable mattress is also available. For the little ones, we have a pack and play crib.

Amenities in the home include a well equipped kitchen, 2 pellet stove fireplaces, telephone with local service, wireless internet connection and an attached, oversize 2-car garage.
There is internet service connected to the projector in the movie theater (120” screen, 7.1 surround sound) for streaming netflix and plenty of DVD/Blu Ray movies to watch after a fun day of activities.

The owners have created a family game room in the walk-out basement that includes board games, in ceiling speakers for music, an owner built custom built pool table, a wet bar with dishwasher/fridge/wine chiller, and plenty of places to relax.

Storm Mountain and the surrounding areas offer a wide variety of outdoor activities just minutes from the house including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, ice climbing, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, golf, mountain biking, mountain climbing, 4-wheel and ATV trails. The town of Drake has a family run bar and restaurant.

This Northern Colorado location give you easy access to the many outdoor activities Colorado has to offer. During your stay you may even be visited by elk, coyotes, wild turkey, rabbits, various squirrels and chipmunks. But if you long for the city lights, Denver is only an hour and a half drive away.

A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended for winter travel since the home is at high elevation and possibly chains. The driveway is plowed during the winter months but may still be icy or snow packed. Please be aware that high altitude sickness can occur at this altitude if you or your guests are not properly prepared. This is alpine living and even in the summer the nights are quite chilly so pack accordingly.

Our home is on a cistern, which means that we have water delivered for your stay. Depending on water use, our delivery company is notified to deliver water during your stay. The company needs no access into the house.

Family Slumber Party Fun
Our family does annual “ family slumber parties” and this is by far the best property we’ve rented. The living spaces, pool table, kitchen, theatre room are in almost new condition and very clean…perfect! Lots of games and entertainment with the ability to relax and enjoy as well. It snowed while we were there and the drive was mowed early as was road access. We’ll be back!

Absolutely Perfect!
This home is perfect for any family wanting to get away from all the hustle and bustle of a big city while also having access to some of Colorado’s popular activities. My family and I were beyond impressed with this place. The views are breathtaking, the home was very clean, the neighbors were kind, and the owners were quick to answer any questions we had. We enjoyed every bit of this house and have already talked about booking another stay.

Nice but hot mid-summer
Nice place, very clean, comfortable, but needs air conditioning during summer and sun shades/film on windows. Neighbors dogs bark, but good facilities in home and reasonable priced. 45 min from Estes.

Very quiet, great for families!
We had a wonderful stay, the property was great. It was secluded and quiet, which we definitely appreciated. It was pretty easy to find as well and not too far from Estes. There was a neat little place to eat at the bottom of the hill which had great food and a fun atmosphere. We only had a coupme issues and Mark and Sarah were incredibly responsive. The family atmosphere of the home was very enjoyable! The kitchen is well stocked, bed were very comfortable. We loved that the living room had games rather than a TV! We would would definitely stay again on our next visit.

We built this 3200 sqft cabin from the ground up in 2008. Shortly after, our daughter was born.

We are outdoor lovers and have explore the area thoroughly. We have fished every possible water and hiked most of the peaks in the area. We are both school teachers and recently moved to MN to be closer to family for a few years. We have always enjoyed sharing our home with others.

Why they chose this property

We started by designing a cabin for this property and we ended up with a home. We decided that going to the mountains for short periods of time was just not enough so we decided to build a home to live in. We enjoy the cool summer nights on the deck and the ease of hiking around the area.

What makes this property unique

The views from the living room and deck are amazing. When it gets hot during the day, we retreat to the basement for a drink and a movie. Family gathering are easy here with the large kitchen and ample lounging areas throughout the home.
