About this property
Awesome Ocean/Sunset Views
Escape to the peaceful shores of North Kohala, at the edge of Upolu Point, where the beauty of the Big Island meets the vast Pacific Ocean. Awhalecrossing Cabin is a hidden gem, offering a private oceanview getaway on a secluded coastline. This cozy, charming cabin promises an unforgettable vacation in a tranquil, rural setting.
Nestled in nature, the fully-furnished, 2-bedroom, 1-bath cabin is perfect for couples, families, or small groups, comfortably sleeping up to 5 guests. The downstairs bedroom features a queen-sized bed, while the upstairs bedroom offers both a king bed and a twin bed, making it ideal for families or close friends. The cabin comes with a fully-equipped kitchen, allowing you to prepare meals and enjoy them with the stunning ocean vista as your backdrop.
Relax in the spacious living room or on the screened-in porch, where you can savor the ever-changing views of the sea—watch the waves roll in, the sun setting over the horizon, and, if you're here during whale season (November - April), witness the awe-inspiring humpback whales breaching and singing right from your private lanai.
The cabin's wrap-around deck offers 360-degree views, making it the perfect spot for breathtaking sunsets, mystical moonbows, and the serene soundscape of nature—ocean waves, tropical birds, and the cool breezes. For those who love stargazing, the property's dark sky location offers unparalleled views of the night sky. With little light pollution, you'll be treated to stunning constellations, shooting stars, and even glimpses of distant planets, creating a perfect opportunity for a memorable evening of stargazing.
In winter, watch the dramatic surf roll in from the ocean, as the North Shore of the Big Island is known for some of the most powerful waves on the island. And if you're a fan of scenic vistas, take in the stunning views of Maui’s Haleakalā volcano across the Alenuihāhā channel. On clear days, the sight of the majestic peak is a reminder of the natural wonders that surround you.
Hiking trails abound, and the property is just a short walk to both the ocean and historical sites, including King Kamehameha's birthplace and the ancient Mo'okini Heiau.
While secluded, Awhalecrossing Cabin is conveniently located just 1 mile off Akoni Pule Highway. The charming towns of Hawi and Kapaau are only minutes away, where you'll find dining, galleries, and unique shopping experiences. The world-renowned beaches and resorts of the Gold Coast, including Hapuna and Mauna Kea—regularly ranked among the top 10 beaches in the world—are just a 20-minute drive away. Kona International Airport is 50 minutes by car.
Our "Special Rustic Hawaiian Experience" has been a beloved part of our family for nearly 45 years. With the company of our 2 Golden Retrievers and 2 Golden Doodles, we invite you to experience the magic of our island paradise.
Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or simply a place to reconnect with nature, Awhalecrossing Cabin is your perfect retreat.

Wonderful stay! Relaxing beautiful views. Enjoyed sitting on the lanai every morning whale watching. The walk down to the shoreline and to King Kamehameha’s birthplace was very cool. Great hosts and a great visit. Especially loved Coconut & Jazzy thank you so much for a memorable visit.

A whales crossing was very private and secluded with an amazing ocean view. Screened in Lanai for amazing comfortable outside seating. We absolutely loved this place
We had a nice stay at A Whale Crossing! We were attending a local event and did not want to drive home late so booked our stay at this very convenient location. Linda communicated check in instructions great and we appreciated her Aloha
Enjoyed the amazing views and eclectic antique furnishings. A quick drive down the hill to tide pools before sunset. Relaxing, quiet and comfortable for 4 adults.
Nice home filled with memorabilia making it cozy. Plenty of room for our family of 5 adults to sleep comfortably. WiFi was fast. Beautiful, quiet, country setting.
This was a perfect cabin experience. Whale watching and shoreline hikes during the day. Sunsets from the screened porch and amazing bird song every morning. Definitely would return.
Lovely home away from the bustle of city living. A perfect place to be inspired if you are an artist or a writer looking for a place for a writing retreat.
Property manager/ owner was accommodating to our needs.

Aloha, It was so nice having you both as guest here. I'm so glad you found our little PEACE of paradise. Come again. Mahalo, Linda
Very nice rural rustic cottage with access to coastal hiking. Very quiet (except for the wind). Super dark nights for stargazing. Friendly hosts and dogs, (Specially Goldie). The weather was a bit rainy, but we enjoyed our week.
When we all realized that the Ironman Triathalon was going to make travel harder from the south end of the island, we found this gem at the north end of the island in Hawi. Linda's home was like going back in time. Her furnishings were stellar antiques with an island flair. Beautiful little gem with a lovely host!
We were welcomed first by our host's friendly golden doodles then our host stopped by to offer assistance with whatever we needed. After we dropped our bags we headed to the end of the road to see an incredible view of the sunset. While watching the sun set, we saw whales breaching. The view and very limited audience in the area felt like we had the whole thing to ourselves.
We loved the house design and the decor is wonderful. The view of the ocean is great, you can walk to shore for sunset pics. Great star gazing at night! Close to the many of the beautiful valleys in the area. This is a great spot to explore this end of the big island. Also as a plus for dog lovers, they have very happy dogs on site if you miss your pooch ❤️. Linda was very helpful before and during our stay. Mahalo
The peacefulness of this place is hard to describe. Off the beaten path and away from the chaos of the tourist destinations. The hosts were all great people, very friendly and helpful, and with great stories to about the area. They pointed us to some local spots that fell right into our style of exploring. Hawi is a charming little community with all the essentials. The dogs were great friends as well. Perfect place to sit on the porch and take in the breeze and sunsets.

My husband, Marty & I have lived here nearly 45 years. Born & raised in Long Beach, CA. We are high school sweethearts. Been married 57 years. We raised 2 sons, lived in Micronesia, lived on a boat in San Pedro, and have now lived here on the Big Island for 45 years. Built our home ourselves with our 2 sons. Invented "Glow in the dark bubbles" ... too much fun. Love & Aloha.
