About this property

Trade Winds Plateau

Located on a private, gated road, experience fresh air that's travelled thousands of miles over the ocean. Explore 15 acres of the most beautiful property in the universe. Be prepared for 50,000 shades of verdant green to welcome you to a beautiful oasis of privacy. Cows cohabitate with the coconuts, bananas as well as a cornucopia of plants and trees. The home is only a 15 minute walk to historic and scenic Kapanaia Bay. Well appointed for comfort and convenience with managers onsite. Use of a pool is included along with fresh fruit at the owners other property, across the road. We receive enough rain to keep the grass green, but not enough to grow moss. Please be aware that due to our tropical climate, there are geckos sharing our home. We always give the rental a thorough cleaning right before check-in, but the longer you stay there is an increased likelihood of seeing evidence of the geckos.

Awesome stay but far away from exploring the island
Place is very nice but is far away from attactions. 2.5 hour from Volcano National Park, 2 hours from Hilo and waterfalls and botannical gardens, 1.5 hours from airport, 1-2 hours from a lot of beaches that did not have boulders. No real beaches up north. One difficult hiking trail about 10 miles away which is an eroded steep mule trail. Pool is actually on a different property that has it's own gate and is only open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. So nice place to stay if you don't want to explore the island or don't mind a lot of driving. Did appreciate the snorkel and fins as we did snorkel at a beach about 1.5 hours away. There were surf boards available as well. I was hoping for a walk to the shoreline from the property but gated private property in the way.

Off the Beaten Path
While the island offers many distractions, allow yourself to be still, mesmerized, by the ever changing ocean view found from the back covered lanai of this humble yet well appointed country home. Monet had his “Haystack” series, God paints a beautiful varying picture daily. As the sun rises, pinks, buttery yellows reflect off the low lying clouds and lick the silver sea, giving way to clear skies of the brightest blue fading into waves of sapphire and turquoise. Maui rises across the channel much closer than one might think; its rugged terrain veining into the water.Whales parade all day, frequently breaching and splashing playfully. Resident Saffron Finches and Yellow Billed Cardinals flit from the trees along with many other songbirds. The sound of civilization is replaced by nature, salve to the soul. Emerald mountains, cloaked in thick rainforest and carved by deep valleys veiled with mist, greet you from the front. The property itself is vast and open with a few cows as your neighbors. Explore the coastal cliffs by day and reach out to catch the stars so close at night. The house, wrapped on three sides by generous covered lanai space, opens up to a well appointed living/kitchen area. The bedrooms/baths are generous in size and the water pressure excellent. Ceiling fans and trade winds ensure a perfect temperature day and night. The hosts are attentive, kind and generous. Do not hesitate to book this lovely property. You will not be disappointed.

Serene, Quintessential Hawaii
The property was a spacious paradise. It offered beautiful views, tranquil ocean breezes, and a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. I loved watching the wild birds and hearing their songs during the day. I loved seeing the breathtakingly gorgeous multitude of stars at night. This is where you want to stay if you want the Hawaii outside of tourist Hawaii. The hosts were amazing- friendly, helpful, and always responsive, but never intrusive. We used the swimming pool at Dan’s property and he let us feed the cows (so fun!) The house was well equipped. I appreciated the high end appliances in the kitchen and all the cooking equipment we needed (large pans, blender, coffee pot, tea kettle, crock pot, etc.). The variety of outside patio furniture was great for relaxing and reading. The living room had spacious, comfortable couches and a large tv. The house had great WiFi. I highly recommend this property, and I would definitely stay here again.

Tropical Farm Life at it's Best
Great property, beautiful setting, wonderful hosts. We had fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed or stay at the farm. Dan and Eliot were gracious hosts who went out of their way to make sure our needs were met and had a bounty of suggestions and recommendations for what to do and where to go. Our daughter loved spending time with the farm pets (cows and dogs!) and the fresh fruit was an added bonus.
