Great location

We really loved our stay at the Hawi House, the location was great and easy check in. The house had plenty of room for our family of four, the bathroom, room set up is a little strange, but not a problem. We had a great time staying here.

Return to our favorite town on the Big Island

We love staying in Hawi - the people are so kind. Access to the mountains and beaches is great. This house was so sweet - very comfortable, lots of little extras (picnic gear, water bottles, rice maker) and the hosts and the property manager were very responsive.

Great place to experience the Hawi side of the island

This is an excellent home to stay in while visiting the Big Island. The price is reasonable. The home is clean and roomy, and the owners are generous and thorough with all that they offer. I highly recommend staying here!

A true haven

Simply a beautiful place. Spacious, clean, relaxing, quiet, serene. A true haven, place of refuge, in Hawi town. So many cute shops nearby to check out. Cute little coffee shop with the best coffee cake, ono (delicious) little ice cream shop across the street. Quick drive to see the Kamehameha statue and also to Pololū valley. If you're looking for hustle and bustle, this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for absolute relaxation and peaceful quietness, Hawi Haven is hands down the best place for it!! Host Linda was so informative and efficient. Property manager Chris- a GEM! So sweet and accomadating! We loved everything about this place and the staff/host. Would definitely stay here again. Actually thinking of booking here again for Thanksgiving weekend next year. Thank you Linda and Chris!

Hawi Heaven for sure

Really enjoyed this house and all of the amenities porvided. You thought of everything from first aid to beach supplies, paper products and more. Really nice stay here, ate the giant avacados that fall off the tree and enjoyed the farmers market for local produce. Good communication with Chris and felt welcomed. Thanks for the stay

We loved the location and the house!

Hawi is a wonderful quiet and quaint town. The house was a pleasure to stay at...Hawaiian decor and lovely, comfortable bedrooms. Cool temperatures in the evening. Very peaceful and relaxing neighborhood. One of the best family beaches, Hapuna beach was only 30 mins away, that's a quick drive on the big island. The location was ideal for us to visit Waimea, Kona, Hilo, and even Kīlauea. The distance to the majority of the must see sights on our list was ideal, compared to staying in Kona.

Generously Supplied, Gracious, "Old Hawaii" House

We spent 5 weeks at Hawi Haven. Hawi is a cute little town with a great coffee spot and some quality small shops for locally produced goods. This house is very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is large and extremely well supplied. Chris, the contact person who manages the property, was a pleasure to deal with, prompt and helpful. We hadn't appreciated how much driving we would do - but it was all worth it! Highly recommended.

Well equipped, clean, homey and relaxing

We’ve been here five or six times and will keep on coming! Large and comfortable (but not super-fancy) house with everything you need. Responsive and helpful house manager and owners. Located within a short walk of “downtown” Hawi with several restaurants, cafes and shops. Hawi is a bit out of the way from the more touristy and busy areas of Kona, Hilo, and Waimea, but that’s what adds to its appeal!

Charming Jewel of a Hawaiian Bungalow!

We were totally charmed by this roomy, airy and classic bungalow, so obviously well cared for. We were amazed by how fully and wonderfully equipped it was for guests. They thought of EVERYTHING! Gracious hosts and wonderfully helpful caretaker, to whom we are very grateful. Loved all the books. A convenient stroll to downtown Hawi, and a nice little grocery store right across the street. We certainly hope to return!!

We love this place

We've been back now 3 or 4 times. It's walkable to stores and restaurants in Hawi and a short drive to a few more places to eat and shop in the Kohala area. Even though it's basically almost in the middle of Hawi town it's fairly quiet. The house is not super-luxury but it's well appointed and very comfy and has everything you need, and the caretaker Giovanna is easy to reach if you need help.

Amazing

We enjoyed our stay at Hawi Haven so much. The house is adorable, so clean, and well stocked with everything you’ll need for your stay. I’ve never stayed at a rental with such fine attention to detail. We enjoyed playing the myriad of games provided and listening to Hawaiian music on the CD player in the evening. The internet is fast, in case you need to work a bit like I did. The location is just a short 2 min walk into Hawi town, where you can get groceries, espresso, ice-cream, and breakfast. Some of the Big Island’s finest beaches are just a 25 min or so drive away, which we didn’t mind at all for the solitude of Hawi. Come enjoy this area and Hawi Haven before it’s “discovered”!

Great family vacation for a toddler

Hawi Haven is a beautiful house. Like others have commented, it is equipped with everything you need. I noted a rice cooker and a blender. What other rentals do that? My son enjoyed the children's books, dvds and puzzles that came with the house. We discovered in the garage a box of children's beach toys and even a backhoe front loader. Everyday we packed the car up with all the beach equipment (chairs, umbrellas, snorkling stuff) and headed south for the beach. The drive was beautiful, not terribly long, and I'm glad we stayed in Hawi. The owners and property manager were professional and responded promptly to email. My deposit checked arrived one week after I returned. This is a very safe option.

We always stay here

This is our favorite place in Hawaii, we've probably stayed ten times at least; it’s just a couple of blocks from tiny downtown Hawi’s shops and restaurants. The house is older but it’s in great shape and comfy, with updated kitchen and bathrooms. It's generously sized, has a big front and back yard, covered porch, carport for two cars, space to park a couple more, and a covered lanai. There are three bedrooms and two and a half baths, laundry room, living room, big dining room and a big kitchen with another dining area. It's clean and well equipped, and the manager is communicative and helpful. The quirky layout means if all three bedrooms are used, some guests need to go thru someone else’s bedroom to reach a bathroom. WiFi was slow but worked for movies; cell data was also slow. There’s occasional minor daytime traffic noise, and most days a neighbor on one side or the other briefly made noise with tools a few times. But at night it’s very quiet.

It's perfect!

Our stay at Hawi Haven was fantastic. They had everything you could ever need. Not only was it well stocked with everything you would need in the house, they also were considerate and organized in providing beach needs too! We didn't have to go buy boogie boards for our kids to play with, or even snorkeling equipment- it was all there for us including picnic baskets, coolers, and beach chairs. Every consideration has been made for their guests. The house was relaxing, clean, plenty of space, and decorated so well! It was close to many things we enjoyed, including a beach that was really great and perfect for the kids. The weather was really pleasant while we were there and our boys loved playing in the spacious yard. They had plenty of room to discover the fruits and plants, kittens and chickens all on or around the property. The town of Hawi has great shops and restaurants and it was a great spot to venture out from to explore the island. You can't do better than this house! Thank you Linda for sharing your home with us!

Great House!

Hawi Haven was a great house for us. The layout for our family of five (2 parents & 3 adult children) suited us perfectly with plenty of room when we wanted to be together, like in the kitchen or around the big dining room table, or when we wanted to spread out so we could all have our privacy. We appreciated the cleanliness of the house, the extremely comfortable beds, the modern appliances and complete kitchen, and the wi-fi, yet loved how the owners have maintained the charm of the old sugar plantation cottage. In addition, the owners have stocked the house with everything you might need and leave it all at your disposal: plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and every kitchen gadget you can think of; soaps, detergents, lotions, and cleaning products; plenty of linens, including all sizes of towels for kitchen, bath and the beach; drawers and cupboards loaded with paper products, kitchen staples, first aid, office supplies and more; beach equipment, including chairs, coolers, beach bags, snorkeling gear, reef shoes and boogie boards; and even a couple of bicycles. We loved the location and being able to walk to the Nakahara market, the wonderful farmer's market on Saturdays (voted best on the island), and all the quaint shops and restaurants on the main street. It is such a friendly little town. And if you are looking for adventure, you can walk to the Kohala Zipline or Flumin' Kohala, which are right around the corner. Just a few minutes up the road brings you to the gorgeous Pololu Valley, while just a quick jaunt down the highway are some of the most beautiful beaches Hawaii has to offer. If you prefer immersing yourself in the culture, rather than isolating yourself in a resort, this is the place for you. We stayed at Hawi Haven 2-1/2 weeks and never once wished we were staying anywhere else. We look forward to staying here again someday.

Always a great stay!

This is our favorite place to stay in Hawaii, we've probably stayed at least 6 or 7 times by now. The house is older but has a lot of character and is in great shape with updates where it makes sense. It's only a block away from shops and restaurants in tiny Hawi town. It's good sized, has a big front and back yard, carport for 2 cars and covered lanai, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, a living room, big dining room and big kitchen. It's super clean and very well equipped, and the manager is helpful and easy to communicate with. One of the full baths is off the kitchen but the others can only be accessed through bedrooms so this could be a minor privacy issue if you're using all 3 bedrooms. WiFi is kind of slow. As of early 2023 there is a house being built next door, but while were were there for 10 days in January we only heard construction noise for a couple hours on and off on two different days. Neighbors on the other side are pretty quiet.

A quiet retreat

Hawi Haven was a welcome respite to begin our relaxation on the Big Island. The house was beautiful and so well maintained. Communication with the owner and property manager was excellent. Such a beautiful setting for our exploration of the northern part of the island. We would highly recommend a stay at this home.

Hawi Plantation House

This home is obviously lovingly cared for, nicely restored, and has beautiful art and furnishings. It's close to all North Kohala area sites. Directions to the house could be much simpler, as it was very close to the main road- which was not stated. We did find it easily, after turning around. The Visitor guidebook in house could use some more general information about the area and less info about organized tours and tour guides. The kitchen was great for cooking- had everything one could need! Because we wanted to rent this house, we agreed to the somewhat odd requirement to take our own trash and recycling to the drop off center upon leaving. It seems that the cost of the cleaning fee should have covered this task for the owners' local host/cleaner. Perhaps it is a covid concern? If so, it would be nice to state that, otherwise it seems like your housecleaner has an issue about handling trash or has no transportation to deal with taking the trash to the drop off. Though Shelly was covering for her sister, and she lives in Hilo, she did her best to answer our questions about the area, and was a good local host contact. Guests should be aware there are mosquitos in this region, and the front screen doors have a gap that can let them in. If you are attractive to mosquitos, we recommend not leaving the front door(s) open. We enjoyed our stay here very much.
