Comfort, Convenience and Relaxation

Attention to detail! The hosts thought of literally everything you could possibly want or need to make their place your home away from home. Notables: Central AC, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen, thick towels, huge bathtub and walk-in shower, full size washer/dryer located in utility room that looks like a closet (next to sliding patio doors). Excellent food and drinks at Seafood Bar & Grill 1 mile away. Very prompt communication with hosts, who were super nice. Also, they won’t add extra junk fees to your stay like corporate condo rentals do!

Divine

Hale Lani delivered on all the must haves for our vacation. The location was ideal for access to the beach, sunrises and sunsets from the patio, exceptionally comfortable living space and amenities. We’ve stayed in many vacation rentals and this one truly checks all the boxes, from little things like dishwasher soap and trash bags to the bigger box which is it”feels” like your best friends house. The decor is truly island based which adds to the aesthetic-so much better than the functional but vanilla condo complexes. Host was very responsive - no issues at all. Very clean and definitely a kitchen you can cook in. Will highly recommend to friends headed to the Big Island.

Relaxing and convenient

We had a great visit with easy access to the Kohala beaches. The backyard has a great view of the ocean with plenty of seating where we could read our books, drink cold beverages and not have to compete with crowds. We would love to stay here again.

This place was immaculately clean, spacious and wonderfully decorated. We loved the location- just 5 minutes from Hapuna and 15 minutes from Waimea and 30 minutes from Kona. Lovely private back yard to sun bath in and look at the stars at night. Owners are lovely and communicative. We will be back!

Great Spot Away from Crowds

Property is well taken care of and Nicole and Nicholas took great care of us. The house had everything we could have needed for our stay to include beach items. House is located closer to many of the beaches, but farther away from the more urban Kona area. We really enjoyed the location and home. The small issue we had was quickly resolved and didn't impact our stay at all. Highly recommend for your tropical getaway.

Amazing family getaway!

Our little family had the best stay here! The house was extremely well stocked, the space was perfect for our family of four and we made so many memories here, but what really put things over the top were our wonderful hosts. They were extremely thoughtful throughout our stay from the fresh baked bread at check in after our late flight, to dropping off a basket of toys for our boys on a day that looked like it might rain, to letting us hang on to the snorkel gear and boogie boards for the day after checkout to pass the time before our flight home at the beach in style. The house was an incredible home base for all of our adventures on the Big Island, and we hope to be able to stay here again if we get the chance to come back!

Evenings of sunsets and BBQ's

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. Nicole and Nicholas went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and well supplied in the house. All of the little details that make the difference were handled. We arrived very late in the evening to a fresh loaf of bread and butter, a bottle of wine, and coffee beans for the morning. What a joy for a late flight. The view on the lanai is to die for and the proximity to the beaches is wonderful. We have been doing VRBO rentals on the Big Island for the last 7 years and this was the best rental we have stayed at for both the property and the hosts. Thank you - we plan to return!

Unbelievable -A Little Villina, within minutes of best beaches.

It seems like many vacation rentals show fancy pictures, which they don’t live up to. This home is even better than you expect. It’s like going to your well-traveled relative’s home, where they have been very thoughtful of your comfort. A great base to explore much of the island, with beaches close enough to go twice a day. Could be charging a lot more for this property. Thank you so much!

Paradise Found

We have looked for a long time to find a rental that felt like our second home, and we found it. If VRBO was looking for an example of how to present an accommodation, this wonderful place would be their template. From the greeting at the door, to the well -stocked kitchen and modern appliances, to air conditioning that works, an exquisite master bath and shower, beautiful decor, great location to beaches and hiking, and attentive hosts, our only disappointment is we didn't book for a longer period. We resolved that by already booking for a longer stay next year.

Feeling At Home in Hawaii

The privacy of staying in a home instead of a clamorous hotel is conducive to true relaxation, for us. We enjoyed having the comfort of a clean, well supplied house to wake up in and have coffee and breakfast on our secluded patio. We also enjoyed happy hour at the end of the day on the patio and barbecued dinner there a couple of times. There is a lot of traffic noise just below (but out of sight of) the rear of the property beyond the patio and yard. We adjusted to it and ignored it…choosing to enjoy the scenery and the ocean view. Our home owner provided some delicious Kona Coffee upon arrival and surprised us with a loaf of delicious fresh-baked bread mid-week. All appliances were fairly new, very clean and in good working order. We had any utensils we required at hand in abundance. The location is out of town and isolated, although, it is only a few minutes to groceries, restaurants abc beaches. We would stay here again.

Perfect from sunrise to sunset

We had the good fortune of staying at this wonderful home for about a week and a half. My son is a boarding student up in Waimea, which was an easy drive for him each morning. I also had a friend visiting and we loved the location because it was close to the beaches as well as a good launchpad for adventures to Hawi, Pololū, two-step and pine trees beach not to mention many stops at Hapuna. We made frequent use of the beach supplies, including chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, snorkel gear and towels. The home is decorated in true Hawaiian style and the neighborhood is close to everything but not touristy - a great way to experience the island “like a local”. The lanai and yard were perfect for watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee or enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and functional. We would cook up a great meal and head to the nearby Blue Dragon to take in some live music under the stars. Self checkin was also a breeze and we were greeted with a loaf of homemade bread as well as other little treats. Nicole and Nicholas were responsive hosts who have thought of everything to make the stay enjoyable and memorable. Mahalo!!

Great House for a Big Island Getaway

We stayed here over the Christmas holidays with my husband and my mother - there was plenty of room for the three of us, the master bedroom was huge and the kitchen was well stocked! Everything we could have needed was provided and there was a lovely gift bag waiting for us when we arrived. The living space is big, clean and cool. The outdoor space is great - BBQ, table, chairs, loungers, everything you need to relax. The ocean is visible and there are a number of things to do or see within a 5 -20 minute drive. We shopped in Waimea for food and spent some time at the local beaches as well. This is a pretty good home base for exploring as it was easy to get to Kona, Hilo, the volcano and other areas of the island. The only caution is that the house does back on to a fairly busy "highway" and there can be heavy traffic. We kept the windows closed at night and could not hear anything. During the day you are mostly out of the house so you will not notice it, but if you are hanging out and chilling in the back, it is good to know. This did not however stop us from enjoying the backyard, the birds and the wonderful breeze!!! Great stay in a great house!!!

Great place to stay!

My family and I had a great time staying here. The house was bigger than we expected and very comfortable. The kitchen had high end appliances and was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. We loved the out door seating area and ate every meal outside. There were a lot of personal touches to the house that made us really fell welcome and appreciated. Also, there was an outdoor storage area that we only discovered on our 3rd day that had sand toys, boogie boards, an umbrella, and enough snorkel gear for our whole family. We loved that the house was only 9 minutes from one of the best beaches on the island, Hapuna beach, and Spencer beach was even closer (great for little kids). It made it so easy to get to the beaches before the crowds. The owner was easy to communicate with and answered all our questions quickly. He even passed on some fresh key limes and papayas. As another reviewer mentioned, there was some road noise at times, but it really was just background noise and didn't bother us at all. The location is a bit of drive from Volcanoes National park, but it was still worth the drive for a day trip there. Being so close to great beaches made up for the drive to the national park. All in all, we had a great experience and would definitely stay here again on our next trip to the big island.

About the host

Hosted by Owner

Host profile image
The house felt like a refuge the moment i saw it, and the young owner had put in many loving touches, like rock walls and patios, and a fragrant cedar walk-in closet. It took many years to afford the upgrades and artistic touches, and each has been a labor of love for me, as well. My uncle was a volcanologist, and chose the location of Kawaihae village because it was above tsunami danger, and out of the way of thousands of years of lava flows. It is a safe perch, yet close enough to the ocean to see a humpback whale breach from the yard. You can lie in a chaise at night and see a brilliant night sky, the way it looked before city lights clouded the atmosphere. In the morning, you can be at a pristine beach where the hotel guests pay upwards of $700 a night, and the houses cost millions - the drive down the hill takes a couple of minutes! It is a great, time-saving location, and even the paramedic's station is less than 5 miles away. The house has lent itself to green considerations - re-purposing things like an antique cabinet into the bar, recycling wood during renovations, and a move to solar power. We try to care naturally for the land and have been rewarded by native birds (our birder guests counted 34 species!) and butterflies. We hope you feel the joyful and healing nature of this house we call hali lani, 'house of heaven'.

The unique benefits at this house:
The location of this house means that you can drive to the beach on a moment's notice. We often go first thing in the morning, and again to watch the sunset, or the whales in winter. We are also spoiled with the closeness of world-class restaurants (yes, you can go in shorts and aloha shirts!), and fantastic shopping. I was able to buy the house next door, and with two houses side by side, it is extremely convenient for families or groups.

Why they chose this property

We feel that this has become the finest home in village. Beautiful inside and out. The new Pelican water filtration system truly makes a difference in the taste of the water and makes it unnecessary to purchase of bottled water. The home is furnished with interesting decor which we have obtained from various parts of the world. The back patio and well kept lawn area is a great place for relaxation and has a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean and Kohala Coastline.

What makes this property unique

Solar powered with central air conditioning. New state of the art Pelican water filtration system attached to the incoming main water supply. Master Suite has a large wood lined walk-in closet and completely remodeled master bath area with walk-in shower.
The kitchen is also new with all the latest features. Bar top hand made from re-purposed 200 year old Chinese Elm.
