About this property
Grandma's Cottage set in lovely Mid-Devon. Ideal for your year round escape.
Grandma’s is a cosy 300 year old cottage set midway between the south and north Devon coasts and a short drive away from the Blackborough Hills, Dartmoor and Exmoor. Situated in Coldharbour near the village of Uffculme Grandma’s is a great spot for a relaxing countryside break. The cottage has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4. It can be configured for 2 couples in a king and a double or a couple in a double with 2 single beds in the other bedroom - ideal for the kids. We’re can take a dog or two as long as they’re happy to stay downstairs. There’s also an enclosed garden with a table, 4 chairs and umbrella. The cottage is within easy reach of the many attractions that Devon has to offer, being just a few minutes away from J27 of the M5 and close to Tiverton Parkway, the mainline railway station on the Exeter/Bristol & Exeter/London Paddington lines.

Our cottage has everything you'll need for a comfortable stay including fast Wi-Fi (100+mb/s). As well as the fully equipped kitchen diner there is a sweet little suntrap of a kitchen garden with table, chairs, umbrella and BBQ for those Al-Fresco evenings. The garden has a side entrance (and store should you bring bicycles). The snug has a Smart TV and stylish Harman-Kardon sound system which you can Bluetooth into. The main bedroom has a king-size bed which can be divided to make two 3 foot singles. The second bedroom has a comfortable double. There are 2 bathrooms too - one with a bath, the other with a shower, and both with loos!
Whether you want to explore in a car, walk or cycle, there's so much to do. Fancy a bite? There are plenty of great pubs, restaurants and cafés nearby - some within walking distance. Details are in the property.
LOCATION LOCATION
Perhaps you love historic buildings, are a railway buff or interested in beautiful gardens? Devon has castles and historic homes galore and of course Exeter with it's beautiful cathedral is only 30 minutes away. We're also close to Somerset and all that beautiful county has to offer. If it's railways you're after then Grandma's Cottage is perfect. The West Somerset Railway is 35 minutes by car, The South Devon Railway 45 minutes and the Dart Valley Railway an hour. For the green fingered we have Hestercombe House & Gardens (35 minutes) RHS Rosemoor (1 hour), and the beautiful grounds and houses at Knightshayes and Killerton (National Trust) less than 30 minutes away.
Dartmoor, Exmoor and the south and north Devon coastlines are all nearby. From Lyme Regis (1 hour) to Dartmouth (90 minutes) the south coast is easily reached. Sidmouth, Branscombe, Budleigh, Exmouth and Dawlish are all around 45 minutes away. The list of options is almost endless!
On the quieter north coast there are sandy beaches a plenty from the surf of Bude (90 minutes) to Saunton (75 minutes).
Step out of the cottage and Devon is at your doorstep. Local walks and the beautiful Blackdown Hills are nearby. A stone's throw away from the cottage you will find Coldharbour Mill - a fascinating working wool museum dating from the 1790s which is open from Wednesday to Friday between 10:30am and 3pm. The Mill also has a gift shop and café. Over the road from the cottage and a 10 minute stroll is Bridwell House, the home of Lord Ivar Mountbatten. The Orangery at Bridwell serves great coffee and cake and has an extensive lunch menu. That's open from 10am to 4pm.
Into antiques and vintage? South Molton's markets (1st & 3rd Sundays) and the Antique Village are chock-full of finds and there are shops a plenty close by in Exeter, Taunton and Barnstaple.
We've provided a folder with suggestions for pubs, restaurants and attractions for you to choose from. There's so much to see and do!

Frequently asked questions
About the host
Hosted by Chris
We love Mid-Devon and live in the same village as Grandma’s Cottage. It’s a beautiful area convenient for so much of South, East and North Devon as well as Somerset, Dartmoor and Exmoor.
Why they chose this property
There’s so much to do locally and further afield. We hope our guests enjoy the area as much as we do.
What makes this property unique
It’s over 300 years old (so watch out for low thresholds on the ground floor!). There’s a well in the garden which is fitted with a grill (but please don’t let children climb on it). The cottage is in Coldharbour, a very picturesque part of Uffculme. Parking is on street and usually outside (though not guaranteed).
