Converted Barn On Thatched Devon Longhouse Grounds At The Foot Of Rolling Hills.
The Little Barn is situated in a yard in front of Lower Court, a medieval Devon Longhouse. The Barn was converted some time ago, but has recently been updated. A number of period features have been retained. The barn has a tiled floor downstairs and has a pine floor upstairs with an oak balcony. There are chairs and a table on the balcony. The Little Barn has gas central heating, digital TV and a washing machine. Wi-fi is available. There is a table with chairs in the garden, as well as comfortable loungers. Nearby activities include walking, fishing, golfing, swimming, riding, tennis, sailing and much more. Situated in the heart of East Devon with the Jurassic Coast and Ottery St Mary on your doorstep, it is a haven for walkers. Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are not too far for a visit and Torbay is a similar distance. You will be spoilt for choice when deciding how to spend each day.

The accommodation is beautiful and situated in wonderful countryside. Elaine our host was so friendly and helpful to us over out stay. We would stay there again.
Wonderful stay - beautiful scenery , Elaine is wonderful , the public footpath lead to the river banks with fantastic views and scenery which our 2 boys loved - accommodation is well equipped. We will be back 100%
The property is lovely and set in beautiful surroundings, Elaine is wonderful friendly, she’s also more than happy to help with anything. Highly recommended and I will be staying again
We stayed for 5 nights with our Labrador! Elaine was the perfect host and her barn was enchanting! The barn was walking distance from the beautiful River Ott and the pub ! It is compact but furnished to a high standard with an outstanding balcony and enclosed garden ! Thank you Elaine !
Absolutely gorgeous cottage in Idyllic village. Lovely walks along river Otter from doorstep. Close drive ( few miles ) to lovely places like Exeter, Exmouth, Sidmouth ( my favourite). Excellent host - Elaine.
Just what we needed

Hidden gem
Wonderful little gem we will return there next year if possible.
We absolutely loved the little barn and really hope to go back next year. Its location is perfect for being away from it all, totally in the middle of nowhere whilst being close to so many places we wanted to visit. Beautiful walks around the area in the country with dog who also really loved the time we spent there. The host communicated everything we needed to know and made us so welcome. We hardly saw her but when we did she was always available for us for anything we needed or wanted to know. Managed to visit lots of wonderful breathtaking coast lines and the estuary . Branscombe beach drive down is not for the faint hearted haha but we got down there for a walk and a coffee . Loved Lyme Regis and Sidmouth the most. Next time we plan to visit the places we don’t have time for this time.
We loved our stay. The cottage had everything we needed. It’s in a nice countryside with a nice community, friendly people and a great pub nearby called “The Golden Lion”. Lots to do in the area and a nice landlady.
A delightful property; compact but with everything we needed, including a view over the garden and surrounding countryside. Secluded and very peaceful. The balcony in the morning sun was wonderful.
We had a great trip staying at the cottage, it was beautiful and had everything we could have possibly needed for our trip to Devon. We will definitely be booking to come and stay again. The balcony is a real treat, overlooking the large garden and farmland. Perfect for our dog who enjoyed roaming around the secure garden.
Didn't want to write a review as I wanted this place to stay a secret! Elaine is a great host. Good comminication and helpful with local info. Stable was great, everything you need is supplied. Morning cuppa and evening wine on the balcony was the perfect start and end to the day. Basic BBQ but perfectly adequate for preparing food. Nice local walks along the river Otter and a pub in the village. We did think about using the local bus service but being a bank Holiday weekend the timings were hit and miss. Transport (car, motorcycle, bike) is needed. We would stay again. Thank you Elaine.
Great location for a quiet break. A farm shop 4 mins down the road selling a whole range of products. Lovely walk to Tipton St John. Ottery St Mary is only 2 miles away. Lots of dog friendly pubs to choose from.
We LOVED this place. Great for a dog-friendly couple's escape. Having an enclosed garden was brilliant (pop the dog out - job done) and the veranda and balcony were perfect for al fresco dining or sundowners. The kitchen had everything we needed. We always take our own potato peeler and knives but no need - the ones provided were great. Elaine is a superb host. Couldn't do enough and even provided fresh flowers and a welcome gift on arrival. We swam in the nearby river, in the sea and went for lots of long walks and to the toy museum in Sidmouth. Lots to do. I think this has to be the best value for money bolt hole we've stayed in. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend.
We loved our stay in the little barn. Elaine is a very friendly host and the house was absolutely lovely, perfectly clean and felt very comfortable. We stayed here for a fortnite with our two small dogs. They loved the garden, and we did too!
All the other guest reviews are absolutely true! Would very much recommend!!
Such a perfect place , comfy and clean.
Lovely garden which my dog loved and I was pleased as it was totally safe for him. Stunning walks on your doorstep.
Our host was a lovely lady and we can’t wait to rebook again.
A beautiful little bolt hole to re charge the batteries. Beautiful garden and balcony where you can sit and enjoy the morning sun. Elaine is friendly and easy going. Lovely walks by the River Otter 2 mins away with the nearest town 5 mins drive. Would definitely pop back. Thank you.
What a lovely peaceful place to stay.
The little barn has everything you need for your holiday. Quaint and compact but full of character for those who love the countryside and the outdoors.
We loved sitting on the upper balcony enjoying early morning coffee watching the birds and wildlife.
Elaine the owner was lovely and very helpful with her knowledge of the area and her home made scones were very tasty indeed.
We took our pet dog along with us and she was very safe in the enclosed garden and really enjoyed the long walks along the river Otter.
Access by car to the local area and the Devon coastline was very easy.
We stayed for 4 nights and would return again.

Elaine was just amazing, an incredibly warm welcome despite the very late notice which was entirely my doing (but you wouldn’t have known it). This was a little piece of bliss, gorgeous walks straight out of the front door and the property was absolutely perfect, cosy, clean, warm and super dog friendly. Beautiful garden and so incredibly peaceful- I couldn’t have wanted anything more. I left a little piece of my soul there and will be marking it firmly as my ‘happy place!’ (Will definitely be back in person soon too!). Thank you for a wonderful weekend Elaine!
I tried to book this property and paid , a message came through that it was no longer avaliable, i then went on to book something else obviously. Next morning full payment was taken ,i contacted vrbo and the host elaine who have been very unhelpful and have basically stolen my money through no fault of my own . It may be a very nice property but if there is an issue they are not interested. Disgusting!
The barn was perfect for us, right from the start Elaine was amazing… from her directions to her perfect scones . Everything you needed was included, fantastic shower, selection of books and dvds. Sitting on the veranda was pure heaven, watching the birds feed from the feeders and talking to Dave the sheep next door. We arrived a stressed, tired and exhausted couple and left totally relaxed and happy.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property, it was so quiet except for the occasional sounds of the birds and the sheep in the field next door. Even though it rained heavily one afternoon we were still able to have a glass of wine on the sheltered balcony. The host, Elaine, was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay.
Beautiful holiday home. Photos can’t capture how pretty this is. We loved our weeks stay here. The cottage is well equipped, spotless clean and perfect for walks in different directions without having to move your car. We definitely will be returning

About the host
Hosted by Elaine Paget
I retired several years ago and enjoy welcoming guests and their dogs to this beautiful part of Devon.
Why they chose this property
We have lived here since 1980 and it is perfect for a rural lifestyle with varied walks such as along the nearby river Otter, over the cliffs on the Jurassic coast just 5 miles away and further afield, areas such as Exmoor and Dartmoor. It is, however, not completely isolated, with lovely towns not too far away.
What makes this property unique
Being able to access good walks over the road to the river Otter and up behind the property is great for dog owners. The Little Barn is in the curtelage of a 16th century thatched Devon Long House with a yard in front and three other very small converted barns. The Little Barn has the advantage of a large garden and gets the morning sun on the balcony.
