This road side Cottage is located on a large parcel of land with neighboring houses, that was originally set up for the working families to live here and support this property. This area is filled with a lot of family history. We would like to share all this with you. The view from the windows from this cottage could give you a glimpse of wildlife maybe a deer or possible a coyote or see agricultural activity at different times of the year, spring is the season for calfs in the pastures or maybe you can view a horse or two.
We are in a Country setting area just off the South side of highway 160, about 2 and a half miles out of Cortez. About 7 miles from the Mesa Verde Entrance. Our Cottage has a convenient location for your coming and going to take care of your local needs without having to be in the town itself. You are close to town with the beauty of being in the rural community.
Easy access to the Bike paths of Phils World, across from the Montezuma County Fair Grounds about a mile East from the house you would be staying at, a visit McPhee Reservoir for more serious fishing. Just 10 miles North in the Dolores area.
The Cottage is equipped with your basics needs. As you enter front room, you enjoy the Country feel with the smells of a wood burning stove in cooler part of season, a swamp cooling unit is set in the front room for cooling on those hot days. As you enter the dinning room area where you have a coffee machine you have an inviting table for the family to gather. Fresh linens are prepared each stay and complementary soaps are provided in the house ready for your stay. There is a utility room with a small rollaway bed on request for those larger families. We have a fenced in yard. You are welcome to contact us for more information about the place, feel free to let one of us know what you need and we will get back with you as soon as possible.
The majority of our people come to visit the Mesa Verde. We are about 7 minutes from the entrance and 6 minutes to the local Wal Mart. Just a reminder if you plan on the Mesa Verde and are interested in guided tours. Please stop into the building before you enter the park to purchase tickets and get maps to get the most out of your visit. they are open between Memorial Day to about Labor Day. Cliff Palace and Balcony House are my favorite and worth the extra time and money. If you're into driving in the spring and want to do your own tour, I would travel 10 miles north on highway 145 to were highway 184 turns to West and go to the Heritage Center. They are called the gateway to the Canyon of the Ancients. There they will help you map out your own personal road trip to see ruins like the Mesa Verde just a smaller version of that huge park Mesa Verde. You could even include driving by the Four Corners.
Phil’s World for the bike riders is East on the highway a mile away, across from the Montezuma County Fair Grounds. If you're into walking, you could walk the trail out back and meet up with the bike trails by trail under the highway from the Fair Grounds. There at that point is a historical sight that tells of the history of that irrigation channel that brings water to the Ute Mountain and other farmer and ranchers south of Cortez.
We are 10 minutes from the high mountains where you can see beautiful colors in the fall or just drive some old mountain roads. If you stay with us I can dig out the old maps for the fun of it or you can just drive North threw Dolores and keep going on the highway of the Alpine sights to see Mountain View’s that are breath taking. Maybe stop in Telluride to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain. Or travel on to Ouray to hot springs.
Were ever you decide to stay have fun. There is a lot to see.
