About this property
Traditional style thatched cottage in Kenmare
The cottage dates from the Cromwellian/Early Georgian era, and has been painstakingly restored using traditional methods. The owner's aim when they restored this heritage building was to ensure an authentic feel throughout, in every detail.
In the old part of the structure the walls are not plastered, they are simple bare stone, and have been simply pointed with lime mortar. There is no plasterwork, just lovely stone walls. Also, in keeping with the traditional feel, the house does not have skirting boards or fitted carpets. Instead, painted floors and rush matting have been used throughout.
What you see in these pictures accurately reflects the feel of the cottage. It is quaint, simple and very traditional. If this is the type of holiday cottage you are looking for, and you have a love of history, we feel you will be very pleased with your choice.
Bedroom Configuration:
The cottage has been designed to sleep 4 persons. It has a very large master bedroom (Sleeps 2) plus a small double bedroom (Sleeps 2).
Kitchen/bathroom layout.
The kitchen is a large but very simple farmhouse style. It is made up of free standing pieces of furniture. The style is simple Irish Georgian/Victorian. The chairs and table are an assortment of Victorian balloon backs.
The main bathroom is decorated in a simple cottage style with a good over bath shower. There is a second bathroom with a feature stained glass window and stand alone bath.
If it’s history and eclectic, rustic style you’re looking for, this is the cottage for you and you will be delighted with your choice. This is the sort of cottage that either appeals to you or it doesn't. Those that love it, love it absolutely, but those that don't like this style would be better off opting for something a little more modern.
