The Old Buttery | Log Burner | Nr Coast
Summary:
The Old Buttery, hosted by Salt & City Stays, is a characterful three-bedroom Welsh cottage in the peaceful hilltop village of Mathry, near St Davids and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Full of charm, it features exposed beams, a cosy log burner, and a well-equipped kitchen. The popular Farmers Arms pub is just down the road, and advance booking is recommended.
The Space:
The Old Buttery, hosted by Salt & City Stays, combines traditional Welsh charm with modern comfort. Featuring slate and hardwood floors throughout, exposed beams, and a beautifully equipped kitchen with a ceramic hob, range cooker, fridge/freezer, integrated microwave, and Nespresso coffee machine, it's the perfect base for exploring North Pembrokeshire.
The adjacent dining area leads down a few steps to the cosy lower living room, creating a characterful split-level open-plan space. Relax by the log burner after a day of adventure, with a welcome pack of logs provided for your arrival.
A practical utility area off the living space includes a downstairs WC, washing machine, tumble dryer, and storage for muddy boots, wet coats, or sandy beach gear.
Upstairs, you'll find three comfortable bedrooms. The master king-size room benefits from an ensuite and a door leading to the street below via charming stone steps. The additional twin and single bedrooms are traditionally styled and ideal for families or small groups. The main bathroom features a bath with an overhead shower.
To the rear of the cottage is a small enclosed yard with a bench, providing a pleasant spot for a morning coffee or an evening drink.
Full of character and thoughtfully equipped, The Old Buttery offers a welcoming retreat in the heart of the beautiful village of Mathry.
Guest Access:
We want you to feel at home, so please note that this property features steps throughout, hard floors, and an open oak staircase. Because of this, it may not be the best fit for toddlers or young children under 6.
We’re happy to welcome one well-behaved dog to join you on your stay! A £25 fee applies, and we kindly ask that paws remain on the floors to keep the furniture in top shape.
The Neighborhood:

Just a short drive away is Abereiddy Beach, famous for its dramatic coastline, picturesque coves, and clear waters. Nearby, Traeth Llyfn Beach offers a more secluded escape, nestled between rugged cliffs and ideal for peaceful coastal walks.
For a livelier day out, Whitesands Bay provides a wide sandy beach, excellent surfing conditions, and family-friendly swimming areas.
History and culture lovers will enjoy visiting Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill, located just north of Mathry. This historic mill is renowned for its beautifully crafted Welsh blankets, throws, and textiles, with products sold in prestigious stores including Fortnum & Mason. Visitors can watch the looms in action and browse the mill shop.
