Originally built in 1840, Syke Mill has been converted from a pair of quarrymen's cottages on the banks of a woodland stream to a Boutique Holiday Home. The cottage was completely rebuilt to a high standard and offers a cosy and homely accommodation. The ground floor has unrestricted access on one level, with further accommodation upstairs. The spacious open-plan living room is furnished in a contemporary style and it has a log burner. A large patio door open out onto the terrace, the ancient woodland and the bubbling stream. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. Downstairs the floors are covered throughout with travertine tiles.

The cottage is located within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and it's location makes perfect for walking the coastal path, right from our door step. The cottage comes with half an acre of outdoor space, to include a garden at the rear, it offers a great outdoor environment for children and for your family dog to play and explore. With unspoilt beaches and picturesque fishing villages, country pubs and a wide range of leisure facilities within easy reach. The cottage is perfect for couples, family and friends. The large detached cottage's luxurious finish and it's location makes it UNIQUE. It's truely a great place to relax and to enjoy life's little pleasures.

Don't take my word for it!

Peaceful and quiet luxury

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing break at Syke Mill. This home is well equipped and situated in a beautiful area. Whilst being in a quiet location, we were within a short drive to local amenities and also beaches and beauty spots. Looking forward to our next visit!

Home from home!

A great time had by every one of us. The cottage did exactly what we expected it to... peace and quiet, everything to make our stay comfortable. Great location for tripping out, small towns, beaches, anything that we required. Even the dog was happy! Beautiful beach at broad haven and the restaurants in little haven a must visit. Would recommend to anyone...

Fabulous cottage

We had a lovely stay at Walwyns castle. The setting is very quiet and picturesque. The cottage was immaculate with comfortable beds, amazing bath and shower !! The kitchen was also well equipped. The positioning of the cottage makes it easy to travel to various places along the coast. We loved Little Haven and Broadhaven. One of the best cottages we've stayed in for a long time. Many thanks Hafida. Margaret and family

Remote, peaceful location

Very comfortable property in a secluded location which was central to exploring all of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path which was breathtaking. It was advertised as sleeping 8 but would only be comfortable for 6 max as living space is small. Garden is not child friendly or completely enclosed for dogs although no problem for ours who are well trained. WiFi is non-existent which has its plus sides but no landline in case of emergencies.

Perfect Winter Break

We arrived at Syke Mill during the worst weather of the winter, the Meteorological Office had given warnings of a “weather bomb” and they weren’t far wrong, but as soon as we got in to Syke Mill we were warm and comfortable. The central heating is easy to operate and very efficient with the added option of a wood burning stove. The whole place has been designed and equipped to a very high standard with modern fridge, dish washer, oven, hob and microwave. There is also a good range of crockery and cutlery as well as a toaster and kettle, so we had everything we needed. Although there were only two of us staying, the accommodation would easily cater for a party of six. We had a choice of three luxurious bedrooms all with beautifully appointed ensuite bathrooms and the sitting and dining areas were spacious and comfortable. The situation is also attractive, particularly for those who like to get away from it all, with immediate access to woodland walks and with a range of wildlife on the doorstep. Despite its relative seclusion it isn’t far away from Haverfordwest and the coast. There is a well appointed utility room with a washing machine in case you need it. We had a relaxing enjoyable winter break and will definitely be back in the summer

A week in the charming, secluded Syke Mill cottage.

Theproperty was very well designed and the materials used throughout, flooring, bathrooms, staircase were of a very high standard. It was also very tastefully decorated, and the kitchen was well equipped, although a few more chopping boards would have been useful. All the electrical appliances worked well. Fortunately, as we were preparing to leave, we were able to meet the owner, Hafida, who was interested to hear our comments - positive and otherwise! Some of our negative comments had been noted before by previous guests, such as the fridge being far too small for six people, the lack of anywhere to hang up towels to dry, also the fact that if as we do, you like to read in bed, the lamps there are not suitable. We would also have appreciated more tea towels, toothbrush glasses and more hand towels, we only had three for five people, although there were five bath towels. We also had to buy cleaning materials, washing powder, dishwasher tabs, a washing up brush, and bin liners, which we left there for the next guests. Apparently this is normal practice. Hafida listened to all our suggestions, and has since informed me that many of them have already been implemented. In the next few months, the garden should be finished, which will provide a much nicer aspect from the house. With all the recommendations in place, this will be a beautiful, peaceful oasis to relax in and enjoy.

Well equipped cottage

Two disappointing points, mobile cover is next to zero but that would be fine if the cottage had a view, there is none at all. Quality of the cottage very good and very close to beaches etc. Also the garden is basically a steep bank with a wall that drops a few feet that could be dangerous to small children (or dogs)

Lovely cottage - but contrary to description there is no internet

This is a really lovely cottage in a beautiful area - but is described as having internet... it does not. Discussing the misrepresentation of that with the owner has been stressful and remains unresolved. Syke Mill is a lovely cottage – clean, stylish, luxurious comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms (but no locks), a well-supplied kitchen that you can properly cook in, and convivial eating areas with views of the garden. Other provisions – games, tables football, washing machine, tumble dryer – make this a comfortable place to spend time.

Riding the waves in Pembrokeshire

Hafida was helpful and accommodating with booking the property. The cottage itself was everything we needed - well equipped and comfortable. There were some great additions such as a nice BBQ and outdoor seating area, and a fabulous table football. It was especially helpful to have washing and drying facilities available as we have young children who get very messy! We had very limited phone signal at the property, but knew this would be the case in advance so this was not an issue for us. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Absolutely fabulous !!

A beautiful, secluded property that will appeal to those looking for peace and tranquility during their stay. The cottage is well placed for exploring the Pembrokeshire coastline with Little Haven within walking distance. We managed to visit some amazing beaches I've never ventured to before. We particularly enjoyed marloes sands. The cottage itself is nestled in a peaceful woodland location and is spotlessly clean. It is luxuriously appointed and has loads of secure outdoor space with large decked areas and plenty of seating. Very peaceful after a long day exploring. This was just what we were looking for will definitely return. A special thank you to host Hafida who was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had during our stay. I would highly recommend this property for a very memorable experience. You won't regret it. 🙂

What a relaxing break!

We had a wonderful week unplugged from WiFi and phone signal enabling us to properly switch off. We were supposed to come to Syke Mill in October 2020 but with the lockdowns we were not able to make it til May half term. Hafida was a wonderful host with great communication so that our postponements were made possible. The cottage is spacious, well decorated and set in a beautiful area of Walwyn's Castle. We loved our stay.

Stay at Syke Mill Cottage

Lovely cottage for a small family. Location perfect for exploring Pembrokeshire and beaches. Close to Haverfordwest for supermarkets etc. We loved exploring the peaceful reservoir. The only downside was a lack of access to WiFi and hence internet access. The owner tells me that this is soon to happen and this will absolutely make it perfect for anyone staying there. Strong recommend and would be delighted to return to stay here. The owner was super helpful for our stay both with recommendations re beaches and places to go ( slightly more difficult with pandemic restrictions) and was easily accessible for some very minor troubleshooting. A fabulous holiday stay.

Peaceful cottage in a great location

We loved our week in this super cottage. It is comfortable (fab bathrooms) and very peaceful, with no near neighbours. We loved the walk through the wood to the lake, and our favourite beach was the wonderful Marloe Sands. Very good, helpful owner. Thank you for a lovely week.

A delightful cozy cottage

Syke Mill is a very comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting located in a lush wooded area. It has been beautifully renovated and the three bedrooms with each their private bathroom was a plus. We easily located the many villages along the coast and traveled as far as picturesque Tenby during our stay. When renting the cottage, be sure to bring your toiletries as only hand soap is provided. Travelling from Canada, we were on airplane mode so wifi did not work for us but made family interactions that much easier. There were many opportunities to tap in, in the villages. We would definitely recommend this cottage in Walwyns Castle to anyone wanting to experience the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park area.

The cottage is modern and the beds are really comfortable, the bath in the master bedroom was great. Would stay again Clare and Family

Modernised cottage away from it all

A very well appointed, modernised cottage in a very quiet corner of beautiful Pembrokeshire Great communication from the owner , very helpful with questions on things to do and amenities , and was quick to resolve a small issue of too few towels on arrival Large garden enclosed for dogs, mostly covered with wild flowers/grasses, could have been more of a path up to the decking area , could be offputting if grass was wet (although the owner did offer to get the grass cut, we declined due to children suffering from hay fever) Well appointed interior, pictures are an accurate representation. Small niggles of 1. poorly fitting bathroom doors with no locks 2. en-suite wetroom to twin room only had a shower curtain As a door, making the bedroom very humid , better to just use as loo, and shower instead in the large wet room downstairs 3. Parking area might have been thought through a bit better , just about got 2 hatchbacks off the road but lived with it for a week Freesat TV and DVD player, good selection of board games and bar football for entertainment, came in handy because there is no WiFi or phone signal inside, and only weak 4G on carpark area or decking (we had Vodafone, EE, O2 and 3, made no difference ) Large tesco in Milford haven 10 mins away, as are nearest pubs in little haven There is a nice nature reserve 25 yards down the road we found good for dog walking Despite negative comments (intended as feedback for owners as they clearly are passionate about providing a quality accommodation and excellence of service) compared to other properties I’ve stayed in I would rate this comparatively highly

Peaceful retreat

This cottage was perfect for us. Conveniently situated for both Town and coast it's tucked away right next to woodland with the sound of a bubbling brook and birds singing to gently wake you up in the mornings. It really is a home from home with quality beds, bedding and kitchen equipment. It was so useful to have a washer and dryer available for our use in the utility room and we were never cold as there is a very efficient central heating system and fabulous wood burning stove which makes for very cosy evenings. I have to mention that the owner went the extra mile to accommodate our needs and was amazingly friendly in all our communications - a big thank you to her for that.

Lovely, clean & comfortable accommodation.

We were lucky enough to spend 2 weeks here in this beautiful part of Wales. The accommodation is finished to a high standard in a quiet and secluded spot with access to a lovely walk right across the road. There are some wonderful beaches close by, with lots to see and do and very nice places to eat locally. We liked it so much we are planning to stay again next summer.

A gorgeous woodland cottage within easy reach of beautiful beaches.

We (family of four including two teenagers, plus dog) stayed here over Halloween week. Despite being tucked away down a country lane, it was easy to find thanks to good directions from the owners. We loved this cottage which has been fitted out to a very high spec. Kitchen has large modern oven, dishwasher, microwave etc, and there is an extra fridge in the utility room. Plenty of cupboard space for storing food etc - and there was milk, tea, coffee, welsh cakes etc. all waiting for us on arrival, as well as Halloween decorations! The bath tub in the master bedroom en-suite is huge, and the downstairs wet room has a powerful 'rainforest' shower. All bathroom fittings are top quality and added to the sense of luxury. The central heating warmed the house very quickly and was easy to use (just adjust the thermostat), and there is also a wood burner in the sitting room that creates a cosy atmosphere. There is a digital tv and DVD player with a selection of family friendly films, as well as a big trunk full of family favourite games like Monopoly and Scrabble. The location was perfect for us and dog. There is a lovely woodland walk to a reservoir that is only 10 mins from the front door, and the beaches at Little Haven and Broad Haven are only a 10/15 min drive away. Haverfordwest is a 15min drive away and there is a large Tesco there with petrol station, as well as a Morrisons and a Lidl. There was plenty of info in the cottage on what to do and where to go in Pembrokeshire. We'd recommend St Davids, Whitesands beach, Newgale beach, Barafundle Bay, Broad Haven South, as well as the closer Little Haven and Broad Haven. All are stunning and have excellent coastal path walks. We couldn't pick up wifi in the cottage, but this wasn't a problem as it kept kids off devices! A 20 metre walk up the lane and I could get 3g. All communication with the owners was straightforward and clear, and we would love to return in the future!

Beautiful

A beautiful haven is a fantastic area. We had a great stay with our 2 dogs, bikes and kitesurfing kit! It was like staying in a natural playground with the luxury of returning to a beautiful base. The cottage was well equipped, clean with plenty of space. It is in a fantastically tranquil area with really friendly locals.

Wonderful relaxing break

We needed a place that has very easy access and easy movement inside for our elderly parents who have limited mobility. This place was ideal for us. We all had our own privacy, parents used the bedroom and adjacent wet room on the ground floor. We had the upstairs floor to ourselves. One bedroom has a king bed with ensuite bathroom which is very spacious. You can lay back in the bath and look out at the trees and beautiful blue sky ( we had fantastic weather) The other room has twin beds and an suite shower, plenty of room. The property is very well set out ,an ideal place for you to chill out and relax. It is situated in a lovely quiet spot, very private.

Lovely mill conversion, brilliant holiday location

Modern conversion of old mill, immaculately maintained and well converted. Modern appliances, very comfortable, and brilliant location for all on offer in Pembrokeshire. Walking, water sports (Dale nearby for canoe and sailing boat hire), Newgale beach for surfing, boarding and kite boarding, Abereiddy for coasteering. Lots of lovely places to eat nearby (The Griffin, Dale; The Shed, Porthgain, Cwatch St Davids, for example). Circualr walk (4m) from Porthgain to Abereiddy and back followed by lunch lovely (but book restaurants and pubs in high season). Lots of castles and places to visit, Tenby, Llanstefan (S. of St Clears, amazing views), Laugharne (Dillon Thomas home), and nearby Museum of Speed. Or with young kids just spend time on beach. Property good for rainy days, too, with FreeSat TV and radio, and good outdoor areas including BBQ. Short walks from property too. Highly recommend property and excellent and friendly liasion with hosts.

Syke Mill or Melin (in Welsh) was derelict until 2012. The property comes with just under half of an acre of woodland. The cottage is a stone built with thick walls and many more charm.

I fell in love with Syke Mill the moment I saw it, a "hidden gem" right in the woods with diverse bird species, trees and a woodland stream.

The property interior décor reflects my North African and French Heritage. We have French and English books for kids and adults to enjoy as well as DVD.

Syke Mill allow children to be children, to explore in a safe environment, to learn to keep themselves safe and develop outdoor skills. The cottage's location makes it ideal for exploring Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The property is in an ideal spot for Walking, Bird Watching, Surfing, Cycling, Coasteering or simply enjoying a swim. You might prefer to unwind on one of the two decked areas and enjoy the scenery or sit by the fire with a glass of wine. Perfect for family, friends and couples.

One of my favourite time of the year is winter, after a walk in the woodland or on the beach I look forward to a bubble bath in the large bath tub and to relax by the fire with a glass of wine. Christmas is really special at the cottage.

My children loves climbing trees, explore the woods and swing from the rope attached onto a tree. They also like to build dens and trip to Skomer Island to see baby Puffins. Now in their teenage and early adulthood we spend our time Coastering, Seals watching.

We have recently rescued a puppy called Sonnet, she is a beautiful and loves the outdoor space.

Outdoor play keeps the doctor away!

Why they chose this property

Syke Mill is the perfect base for beach, walking holidays, bird watching, Coastering or just to chill out, we are located a short distance from the best beach in the UK 2018...Barafundle as voted by Tripadvisor. Also Little Haven, Broad Haven, Dale, Broad Haven South beach and many more. Bird lovers, walkers, surfers, cyclists and those who wish to be away from it all. Homely settings where you can chill by the fire, enjoy your favourite drink, a book or board games.

Please contact us for a list of our favourite, to visit and eat at. We also have a list of walks ideal for wheelchair users.
