Charming French Countryside Home - recently renovated and very relaxing
This charming home, located on the border of Charente and Dordogne, offers a peaceful retreat in a tranquil village, ideal for rest and relaxation. Yet, it’s just a short distance from the nearby market town of Chalais, which provides all essential amenities.
The property is surrounded by beautiful countryside, with stunning views over the valley that can be enjoyed from the spacious and private garden. The home, a traditional stone property with over 250 years of history, was once a residence for nuns who supported the local church and served as the village bakery. Recently refurbished, the house blends character with modern comforts, featuring a new bathroom with a heated mirror and a well-equipped kitchen.
The cozy gîte is accessed from the rear and opens into a welcoming lounge area, with a fully equipped kitchen/dining space beyond. Upstairs, you’ll find two comfortable double bedrooms and a stylish bathroom with a shower over the bath, heated mirror, toilet, and sink.
There are ample storage options, including wardrobes in both bedrooms, and all linens and towels are provided.
Fast fibre Wi-Fi, streaming TV via Fire TV, and a range of indoor entertainment like board games and a Wii system ensure guests are well-catered for. Outdoors, enjoy the private garden with a saltwater pool (available late May to October), a traditional stone barbecue, and a dining area, perfect for al fresco meals. A table tennis table, football goal, and a child’s slide provide additional fun for families. The pool can be heated if the weather cools down, and although there is a safety cover, parental supervision is required for children.
For those interested in exploring the area, there are opportunities to rent bicycles and kayaks nearby. The gîte also provides excellent stargazing opportunities thanks to the minimal light pollution in the area. The property is situated just 2 km from Chalais, with easy access to many stunning sites like Aubeterre, Saint Emilion, Cognac and Bordeaux, and is an hour's drive from Bordeaux and Bergerac airports. Families with young children will find safety gates for stairs, a high chair, and a travel cot. A temporary desk and chair can be provided upon request for remote work.
Please note, there is no washing machine in the gîte, but a laundrette is available in Chalais. No pets are allowed, and there is a three-day minimum stay. Additionally, while the other half of the house is occasionally occupied by the hosts, the gîte remains exclusively yours, with shared access to the garden, terraces, and pool areas.
