This house was the PERFECT location for our stay in Newport. We walked to town everyday and could even walk to the beach and cliff walk. The house was exactly as described, with beds for 17 people and lots of bathrooms and hangout space. The only difficulties were that the house was definitely old and had not been unkept so well. One of the toilets didn’t flush right and one of the sinks didn’t work and a bunch of the outlets were confusing to use (they were on smart outlets and we could not get them on). The house was also not equipped with any shampoo conditioner or body wash. But overall the house was perfect for our group and we loved our stay!
Seriously disappointed. The listing promised a 10 bedroom house, but several rooms were either empty of furniture or marketed as a single bedroom which was actually shared, forcing our group to squeeze into spaces that didn't match what we paid for. The backyard and grill, advertised for socializing, were filthy and unusable. We were never told the owner would be on-site the entire time utilizing the main kitchen and additional bedrooms in the house, which completely ruined our expectation of privacy. On top of that, multiple sinks, toilets, and showers didn't work. When I called the owner to discuss these issues upon arrival, he was shockingly hostile-cursing, making written and verbal threats, and even threatening to call the police. Worst of all, he wrote me a text threatening retailiation if I wrote a bad review or asked for a refund, which not only is an insult to me but undermines VRBO and the rental process. He later would go on to make claims that we were engaging in illegal activities, such as underage drinking (the ages of the guests in the house were all 25-40 years old- most of us married or engaged), claimed we trashed the house (we did no such thing- the house was filthy upon our arrival and we left it in much cleanlier condition then we received it in). Overall it was an unwelcoming and unacceptable experience. We paid a significant amount for this property and didn't get what was promised.
Extended Family gathering...great separation of generations by floor ... Wonderful common gathering area for family time in the evenings. Great location for exploring Newport.
Historical, beautifully appointed, and perfectly located to downtown and a harbor side wedding. Nick was helpful with suggestions for caterers for a welcome party for wedding guests that we hosted at the property. It fit our 70 people easily with all the nooks and crannies In and around the house. It made our weekend better than I could have imagined.
House was just as advertised. Everyone loved the style and design of the house. The location was perfect for our event at Rosecliff and 41 North downtown.
We can't say enough about the Owner, Nick. He worked with us thru Covid to reschedule our stay and was true to his word about being prepared and ready for us when the time finally arrived. In addition to us staying at his beautiful house he has an encyclopedic of knowledge about Newport and the surrounding area. Nick was very helpful and personable in his suggestions when we were initially planning our events. He knew the traffic patterns about town and places to eat & visit. All of our guests are very thankful for his help and hospitality.
Great home for family gatherings etc. with lots of privacy avaialbe
the only downside id the kitchen is small so plan accordingly, once you figure out a way to navigate the kitchen space its perfect!!
We rented the Inn for our friends sons wedding at Castle Inn. We are all HS friends from the sixties. It was perfection. We spent all our time on the timeless porch when we weren’t scheduled. It was heaven on earth. ♥️♥️♥️
Great space for a large group with plenty of common areas to gather inside and out.
Quiet neighborhood but an easy walk to restaurants, boats and shopping on the wharfs. Lovely architecture and history in every room. Yoy can spend hours just enjoying all of the period pieces the owners have furnished this home with.
We had a party of 19 for a graduation celebration and thoroughly enjoyed the property. We would highly recommend it. The house is fascinating and the location is outstanding.
Thirteen of us, from 9 months to 67 spent Thanksgiving weekend in this wonderfully quirky, big house!! It's not really set up for meal prep for the crowd that could stay in the house - pots, pans and refrigerator space, in particular. No worries - we knew ahead of time and brought a selection of kitchen gear with us! We had lots of fun improvising, too! Terrific location for Cliff Walk, the Mansions, great eateries, etc.
I booked this house for a group of guys staying in the area for some sailing races and the space worked out very well! The location as great and communication with Nick was seamless.
Property was not as expected. I do not recommend this for people over 55, specifically if u have knee problems. it had 3 BR on second floor and four on third. Stairway to third fl was steep and rooms had slanting roof , our friends head hit the roof several times. Bathrooms in all rooms were old not convenient and unsafe. Getting in and out of shower dangerous as there was nothing to hold on to. Owner did not even attempt to greet us. Even hotels have reception area for check in. Under the name of Covid he avoided personal touch, not a good idea. With mask on one can still meet and greet.
Extremely small kitchen, dinning room chairs worn out, beds were not comfortable, need to improve. It did not feel like a mansion at such high daily rate. Utility access not available, rooms lights need improvement. We would have been better off staying in a hotel.
Owner Nick was not responsive after we booked and paid, but was very fast in visiting the property after we left and right away told us there was water leak somewhere and how could we have missed noticing a wet spot on a ceiling?
He sounded accusatory that we are not telling him the truth. It is an old property and must have had slow leak which for a visitor not easily visible.

Great Mansion with historic charm
The property was well-maintained and Nick was an excellent host. There are many rooms and bathrooms that were comfortable for all of our guests. The kitchen was very small, which we weren't anticipating and the lighting was poor in some of the rooms, but otherwise our stay was fantastic!

New Years with family
Me and my brother took our families and mom to Newport for the weekend and all 14 of us stayed at the house. Everyone had their own bedroom with bath which was wonderful. The house was plenty big for us to all eat at the dining table and play games in the parlor and sitting rooms. We had a blast and the house was very fun. It is very gracious and interestingly quirky. Newport is a very cool town and we got lucky with good weather. Try it, you'll love it.

Great space for a group
We had a fantastic time at the property. We had a large group and everyone fit comfortably in the house. Getting in and out was easy with their locking system. The location was great. Walking distance to downtown shops, bars, and restaurants, and about a 10 minute walk to the beach/cliff walk.

Great weekend in Newport!
The mansion was beautiful and we loved all of the historic decor and touches throughout! Space-wise it was perfect for our large group of 19 - there were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as parking. It was also the perfect location! The walk to downtown was an easy 10-15 minute stroll. Thank you for having us!

Why they chose this property
I chose Newport to live because it the only place in the world that has everything. It is an island in New England so it has four seasons but the seasons are mild. Newport is a busy, bustling city in the summer time but in the winter it is a quaint New England village. Rhode Island has over 400 miles of pure sand beaches with pristine, clean waters. You will see the air is fresh and the sounds are freshing. Newport is a fantastic walking and biking city. For years when I first moved here, I never even owned a car. I just walked everywhere because it was so easy. The locals range from your average, boat-builder 'Joe' to the yuppy, billionaire 'Winston'. The conversations you will have when you sit down at the docks or in one of the many local bars is just unbelievable. It feels like a European town. You will notice how many people are trim and healthy. People dress nicely and treat everyone with respect. Newport is out of this world.
What makes this property unique
The greatest thing is our location is perfect. You can ask anyone who lives in Newport and they will all say that our neighborhood is the most ideal location. It is a relaxing, safe, quiet residential street filled with big, old, early Victorian mansions, yet it is an easy walk to either side of the island. We are located right in the center of Newport. In a jiffy, I can walk to the beach for a healthy jog on Cliffwalk in the morning or I can just as quickly stroll down to Thames Street for a delicous dinner at a wine bar. It is safe and secure so it comfortable to walk home at night from the nightclubs and bars. The house itself is a masterpiece. It is 99% genuine antiques from the Gilden Age of Newport. The architect built it as a summer home so it requires very little air conditioning in the summer to keep it comfortable. The bannisters and crown moldings are just exquiste. The rooms are terrific. The yard is completely screened in with natural scrubs and trees providing a private space to decompress. You will feel so at home when you are here, sipping wine on the verandah watching the birds, rabbits and squirrels.
